For a guy who had one Spider-Man story he appeared in before the 80s cartoon, it makes him a surprising choice to be animatedThe untold story begins in

The tablet saga was the longest ongoing storyline Stan Lee did on the book, it started in ASM #68 and lasted through #77. Fun story, Spidey battling Kingpin, Spidey on the run from the law with the tablet and encounters with characters like Shocker and Quicksilver, Silvermane's quest for youth, and the Lizard rears his head again. So much crazy stuff to close out the 60s with.
I also really like the follow up story done in 2001 called Spider-Man: Lifeline where another tablet is discovered, finishing what was begun here and the formula is finally correctly decoded. Dr. Connors was permanently cured of being the Lizard, too. Got his arm back and everything, was ignored in his next appearance. Loved the gorgeous Steve Rude art in that story, I wish he did more Spidey.
And then in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions there was a third tablet. Whew.
But sr. still outshines jr.
