61 Nights of Halloween (2024 Edition)

To me it was more drama/thriller but yeah the Rear Window comparison is apt.

What Soderbergh does extremely well, especially with this movie is the use of technology and not in a fake movie kind of way.
I definitely appreciated that. Especially how it played into the climax. Before I watched it, I assumed Kimi was Zoe's name. Which really changed the context of what I thought I was getting into. :funny:

The wiki page for Bed Rest has the largest summary I've ever seen. 13 paragraphs for the plot. It's a 90 minute Tubi horror movie with 18% on RT. Who wrote 13 paragraphs for this?!

I wonder who could've fallen for Melissa's giant chocolate eyes to be so devoted...

Most people probably won't enjoy this because its the definition of a slow burn, but it held my attention for the most part for such a low budget film its exceptionally well done in so many areas. I really liked all the crazy dream/hallucination sequences and combined with the vibrant visuals, some interesting cinematography and solid performances across the board definitely made this worth a watch IMO.

This was decent but seeing the Netflix show beforehand definitely didn't do this one any favors. This just doesn't come close to that in any aspect, but it was interesting seeing a young Jeremy Renner in this kind of role. I actually thought he did a solid job as Dahmer too but man was this forgettable.

5.5/10

My first time seeing this, and I really enjoyed it. It's gritty, seedy and very atmospheric which is what I love the most when it comes to 80's films and Rooker's performance is just fantastic. So many memorable scenes in this especially that ending which was a great, unexpected gut punch IMO.

7.5/10

Every year I mean to watch Henry. After your review Dude, I might actually take the plunge.

Bite-Sized Review: After over a decade of near misses, I finally saw this one. You can really feel passion here in both the performances and the direction. It fuels this modestly budgeted flick far beyond it's means.

Bite-Sized Review: How do you do a prequel to a film completely built on it's twist? You come up with an even better twist.

6. Dracula 2000

What a fun time back then. Very, very much a product of the time. Definitely feeling the age a bit as I started getting nostalgic for the music used in the movie. Let me tell you, I can't recognize young Gerrald Butler. And it takes a while for him to speak enough to maybe recognize his voice. Lot of recognizable people from the late 90s, sadly including a rapist. But, Jerri Ryan and Jennifer Esposito as brides of Dracula. And I absolutely love the twist to the Dracula lore.

7. Dracula 2: Ascension

First, loses points for dropping the 2000, the cowards. Enter the era were Dimension Films was making a whole bunch of DTV/Syfy movies of various properties. In Romania. Props for in theory for being a pretty direct sequel, essentially the day after the first movie, but kind of hilarious of the outside shots trying to pass Romania off as Louisiana. Of course, couldn't get ol Gerry Butler for a DTV movie, but Stephen Billington was a great replacement, being a very, very trollng Dracula. Plus, you get a bit of Jason Scott Lee. I find this a fun sequel, even if it kind of ignores the bit lore twist of the first movie.

8. Dracula 3: Legacy

Yeah, just move the movie straight to Romania since they were filming there. It is a great disappointment, as it lacks the fun and energy in the other movies, for a rather drab and somber movie. Hell, for a movie called Dracula, the big D doesn't even show up till over an hour into the movie, in a 90 minute movies. And god bless Rutger Hauer, but he didn't bring the energy Stephen Billington brought. Not that he would have had enough time for it. Really didn't like the way they tried to retcon away the big Judas twist. And Jason Scott Lee and Jason Londan really didn't have the buddy energy to carry the movie. The clown vampires fight was kind of fun, at least.

And the progress for Bayonetta, well, game is good, but goddamn I had forgotten how bull**** some of the quicktime events were.
