The Amazing Spider-Man 616 or Ultimate?

What's the point of a reboot if they're just going to do 616 again?

Hooray for me outgrowing Spider-Man years ago and no longer being able to be considered a fan boy, which is someone who blindly follows something no matter how bad it is!

1) Ultimate Parker is a whiney doofus.
2) The "boy hero" archetype grates on my nerves incredibly.
3) Spider-Man has always worked better as a young adult, not as a teenager.

I could dig them using the whole 'Mary Jane is the best friend and confidante' angle from the Ultimate series. Wouldn't mind Doctor Octopus being a spy for and tormentor of Justin Hammer either, but only if Webb can somehow get Sam Rockwell back in the role.

I'd say a good mix of both. I spent the last few days reading all of Ultimate, and it's definitely a worthwhile series with a lot of interesting ideas. Just no Gwen as Carnage and no Ockneto and I'll be fine.

I'd be happy with an Ultimate Peter/Aunt May/Uncle Ben/MJ and others other than the villains. All the villains can be 616.

Although I thought Ultimate Kingpin, Doc Ock (before the Ockneto stuff) and Mysterio were far superior to their 616 counterparts.

Venom - TAS/Ultimate (either one could work)
Carnage - 616
Sandman - 616
Electro - Ultimate
Mysterio - Ultimate
Shocker - Ultimate, but with a costume more like 616 (used as a warmup)
Scorpion - 616
Kraven - 616
Lizard - combination of 616 and Ultimate

That'll (sadly) never happen since Marvel Studios owns the rights to Hammer.

I could see Marvel Studios letting Sony use characters. They're making money from it either way, so it's different from if a rival studio had the rights to the characters.

Ultimate - The high school aspect of a teenager growing up with spider-like abilities. And maybe some high school characters inserted in, such as Kong and what not.

616 - Everything else, INCLUDING villains. Ultimate doesn't have one villain that's superior to 616's versions.

And we better not be seeing a hippie May and Ben.

Sandman isn't goofy. Did you read his story in the Gauntlet? One of the best Spidey stories post OMD.

The key point is "post OMD." It's not hard to write a decent story when it's surrounded by crap.

I'm not arguing whether Ultimate is good or not, that's opinion.

But saying it is better than the 616, or saying that the 616 is crap is just utterly wrong.

If the Ultimate universe was created because the 616 was crap... they would of REPLACED the 616 with the Ultimate universe and rebooted everything.

And no it is NOTHING to do with the 616 needing updating. The sole purpose of the Ultimate universes creation was to so that new readers of a newer generation could jump right into the books without researching or reading up on years and years and years worth of history.

Literally... the Ultimate universe was created for ACCESSABILITY. That's all there is to it.

Actually no... it's harder to write a decent story when the mythos has been crapped on. It was a great story DESPITE the Spider-Man mythos going to ****.

Think of it like movies. You have a really, really crap film... then you have to follow it up with a sequel. It's gonna be hard for that sequel to impress people of be any good because of what came before it.
