7.11 - Siren - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Like these fools thought it was him in episode 9....

I was floored by finding out it wasn't Clark that had been playing house with Lana.

I said in my review for Gemini that I wasn't surprised Lana didn't recognize Bizarro: he was the more "open" and "affectionate" Clark she'd always wanted.

Why would she question who he was?

Its a silly argument. No one knew who he was. No one.

Not even Chloe suspected that he wasn't really Clark. She just thought something was wrong with him.

Exactly, that just proves the lengths of ******ation some people will go to discredit Lana Lang

Like dont sit there and moan about the show being about Teen Angst while sounding like a whiny teenager who doesnt understand the show yourself.

Let's face it, everyone was fooled by Bizarro, cut Lana some slack. Heck, even Chloe was fooled until Bizarro asked about something that she knew Clark was supposed to know.
Not true! I thought he was acting out of character and the color switch was weird...

Everyone knew something was off, but be honest: did it even occur to you that Clark was really Bizarro?

Lana should've just tried to play it off that she was infected with kryptonite, that always helps sweep everything under the rug. That or she thought Clark was infected with red kryponite and she slept with him to try and find where the red k was.

:lmao: There's probably a good chance he would've believed that

It did to me, but I also read the spoiler that said a villian from the past was going to return in the episode.

You guys talking about this scene?

Clark: Can you access who logged-on last night?
Chloe: Yeah, I can't believe I didn't see that. The negligent go-to girl strike's again. Chalk another one up for the new and improved model.
Clark: Well Oliver did come through. But I'm not about to let Oliver poach the best side-kick in town.
No. I dont think that's the line. I just listened to it. Chloe makes some quip about the new and improved version (Lana) and Clark says that Lana did come through, but he's not about to let Oliver poach the best side kick in town.

The way the scene was worded was very awkward and it did sound like Clark was praising Chloe over his girlfriend. Clark was angry with Lana at that particular moment but I just didn't like it.
Whoops! That's a typo on my part. It should have been:

Clark: Well Lana did come through. But I'm not about to let Oliver poach the best side-kick in town.

My bad. Other than that, the dialog is word for word as transcribed. I still don't see it as being awkward or cringe worthy. Clark didn't praise Chloe at Lana's expense, and he wasn't insulting Lana in absentia. He would have said something like, "Well Lana did come through, but she'll never replace you" to Chloe if that were the case. JMHO.

In an earlier spoiler, Craig said the returning villain from the past was not Brainiac.

Well, I wasn't reading the spoilers so I had no idea it was going to be Bizzy.

*shrug*

But, I'm glad I didn't know. I think the power of that killer reveal at the end of Gemini would have been nonexistant if I had known.

I feel totally convinced that from now on not knowing ahead of time is working for me.

As far as I can remember, Clark being Bizarro for the entire episode wasn't spoiled early - other than the Canadians who saw it the day before LOL.

I think the point though is, most viewers knew something was up. Clark was not acting normal. He said and did things that were VERY un-Clark-like, such as shrugging off Kara, wanting to "fly" Lana to Paris, forgetting where he put an item of Kryptonian origin (hello?!!), and mocking Chloe behind her back. That's Sooooooo NOT Clark. Chloe knew there was something "off," but Lana wouldn't listen. That's the quandary that Clark faced in Persona. He said (paraphrasing) "she's supposed to know me better than anybody." Apparently, Lana doesn't. Also, I found the line "that's why I'm with you now" to be somewhat biting. What was she implying? That she knew Bizarro wasn't Clark but chose Clark over Bizarro anyway? I don't know how else to interpret that.

Anyhoo... the end is in motion, so it doesn't really matter (to me) at this point.

(EDIT: I realize all of those examples of Clark being "off" didn't happen in Gemini)

Oh, my review's finally up by the way.

I loved the episode but for some reason I had problems writing this. However, I finally beat it into submission.

;) :D

Good review Triplet. I completely agree with what you said about Clark having learn to leave Smallville based on his own decision rather than being pressured to. And this should definitely should take time, especially with all the Clana angst. Even though most people are tired of it, I'm sure in the end it'll be worth it.

I also didn't even give a second thought to what Lana said to Lionel about changing for Clark and how that is wrong because it ends up being a facade.

Oh, and i noticed you had a little typo towards middle where you referred to being glad to have "the Green Lantern back".:O

Awesome job, trip.

I want to rewatch now and pay more attention to the musical changes that you mentioned.

Oh, thanks!

And I don't usually write about the music, it usually just fades into the background, like it probably should, but I LOVED what Louis did.

And did anyone else realize that Mark Snow hasn't been working this show at all this season?

I wonder if he came to the end of his contract and they couldn't afford him anymore?

You know, the biggest hassle about the new composer was I couldn't find the guy's name anywhere on line. I knew it wasn't Mark Snow anymore because I did notice it early on.

I had to go back to my TiVo and play the end credits really, really slowly to even read his name it goes by so damn fast.

My google-foo just wasn't up to the challenge of finding his name.

:(

Yeah, I think so. Clark has to discover the truth himself or his journey's end won't make sense.

Yeah, probably not the best way for her to handle that. I tried to change a couple of boyfriends before I met Mr. Triplet and it never turned out well... you can't change because of what other people expect of you, you need to change because you really *want* to.

Mr. Triplet used to do some things I woulda rather he hadn't done when we had first gotten married (like going on "camping" trips with his buddies, which were really excuses to drink heavily and smoke pot), but I didn't make him stop. It was part of who he was and I married him so I had to take the good with the bad.

The good was good enough that I could over look things like that...

Oh, oops!

:D

LOL!

I misspeak more than I should in my reviews. Oh, well. That's what I get for being my own editor.

;)

Thanks... I'll let Craig now.

Great review, Trip. Pleasure to read, as always.

That was a great review Trip, you really said some things that I wish I could shout out loud to the fandom at large, so hopefully your word will be heard.
:yay:

Thanks, Sue.

:D

Yeah, I'm getting tired of all the complaints and telling people in forums what you think sometimes is like shouting into the wind: you just don't get heard.

This episode seemed to be the perfect one to use to bring up my thoughts on the matter.

Really enjoyed reading your review Triplet

I had many favourite parts but his one really stayed with me...

I know waiting for the final act of this series is frustrating some Superman fans out there. I can even see the complainers' point about Clark needing to move on already. The romantic angst can sometimes be laid on too thick even for me. However, Clark needs to come to that decision on his own, not have it foisted on him.

Others (like Oliver or Chloe or even Lana) can tell him he's not doing the right thing 24/7, that he's meant for bigger things, but until he learns that truth himself his decision to leave her Lana, and Smallville, behind won't make sense. You can't just have a guy decide out of the blue to leave his comfort zone, to leave his childhood home and sweetheart. He has to have a reason to do it. Otherwise, it'll be contrived so I understand why they're dragging it out even if I don't like the way they've decided to do it.
I also liked your take on Lois revealing to Clark her fear of "being left behind again" and how the scene was acted. <sniffle sniffle> What I found interesting is that when you fear having your heart broken and being left behind you also fear being "all alone." Isn't that one of the core fears that Clark Kent on Smallville has always had? His fear of being all alone in the end magnified by the fact that at the beginning of the series very few people knew that he was "different".

A friend of mine that saw the scene said to me "that's why in the future...Clark Kent/Superman makes sure that Lois never feels left behind and no matter how big the problems of the world he is tackling, he is always there for Lois..":yay:

Obviously, somebody who understands the character. Hollywood needs more people like your friend.

Oh, good point. I guess that's something Clark and Lois will have in common.
