7.20 - Arctic - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I'm going with it being an attack by Braniac, which put Kara in the PZ and gave Braniac her visage. The ep also involved time travel. That alone opens the door for anything. If a better explanation is required, think Wesley Crusher and a mile of dry technobable. For me, it was such a MINOR thing left open and it in fact didn't bug me at all.

I tend to have more problems with what IS written, not what's left on the cutting room floor. For Arctic, we can start with Lana breaking up with another boyfriend in absentia, aye-freakin'-gain. What's up with that? First Whitney, then Lex (she was going to leave him a note on their wedding day), and then Clark. I know why it was done given Kreuk's unavailability, but for Pete's sake - couldn't they just have waited till next season to do it right? Morons. Now if they do bring Kreuk back for a few episodes next year - and I have my doubts about that - it's only going to open up old wounds, remind viewers she's not on the show anymore, and drag the story down with more angst. :whatever:

Agreed! Is incredible some people have such a difficult time understanding a freaking scene that is so easily explainable. :whatever:
Is true the Lana "dear Clark video" was lame, they should've left the break up for S8, but at least is not out of character, just classic Lana. :hehe:

All they have to do now is let Clark Kent become Superman, no more stalling!

how about a reporter first

The plan for Clark next season should include:

- Getting into journalism either by studying or an internship (hinted on "Arctic") early on S8.
- Learns to fly in the first half of the season
- Adopts the glasses as his disguise
- By the end of the series he finishes his training and becomes \S/
- Final shot of the series, Clark ripping the shirt showing the \S/, or him flying with the suit if WB gives the authorization (big question mark cause of the movies).

^^^shirt rip is a MUST u can't have superman show without shirt rip and they don't have to show whole costume

Seriously, how many more times must crap happen to him before he realizes he should learn to fly?

I jsut wanna know one thing. Well I wanna know several, but one thing really irks me. Why did we have that scene in Apocalypse where Kara goes to the fridge to get a drink milk I think it was and then falls to the floor like she's in pain? I mean, if it was Brainy all along, what was with that scene? why would he go to the fridge?
I thought he was just acting the part and tried to act like her as much as possible ie. going to the fridge for milk. He fell down in pain due to the stab in the gut he got in the past by himself. It just took time for it to catch up to him in the present.

horrible: longtimers know how I want smallville to end.

the overiding story reachs it's climax, and ends. Clark is still not superman. Life returns to normal...

Mother Kent and Lana are sitting in the kitchen on the farm (and other friendly smallvillains that know the secret). A news report comes on over the TV. Lois Lane is reporting that a disaster is occuring in Metropolis. Ma and Lana look concerned... the end of the world is coming. Then... Superman arrives, we don't really actually see him. We see the live news as it's breaking through the TV. Superman saves the day. The anchor asks Lois, 'who is this mysterious flying man?'. Ma and Lana give each other a funny smile, as they begin to resume whatever they were doing in the house, the Superman theme begins to kick in,,, dadadadadada, dadadadadada.

that's how I want it to end. It's a more subtle ending. I'd much rather it end like that, then have a full on 'I'm superman shot/montage'. I'd rather have the first true superman adventure to be something we see at a distance, as Clark's peers would see it (as we the audience could be considered the population of SV). Just a taste, rather than a full on feast, and may allow Welling to be in the costume, without stepping on any property right toes

now that makes some sense. That it took 'time' for the wound that Kara delivered to Brainiac in the past to catch up in the timeline. That's actually the best explanation.

It's similar to the Movie/Novel "A Sound of Thunder". If you change something in the past it causes a ripple that takes a while to catch up to the future.

the stupid movie where they killed the butterfly by accident? Yeah, makes sense, but that movie sucked

Gotta hand it to Lex for walking around the Arctic Circle wearing no extra covering............I would have caught the cold

He could have at least worn a hat. Didnt Chloe almost die from the cold when she went there?

^^^ It was mentioned in 1st superman movie that inside of FOS is quite warm

that's why lois in superman 2 managed to stay inside FOS without any warm clothes

same with lex in smallville

and chloe freezed because jor-el was doing something to her

If i remembered correctly, Chloe freezed when reaching the fortress.
She wasn't in the fortress, and that's why she was in such a bad state

nope, she made it into the fortress before the real deep freeze began.

Yeah, but Jor-El was trying to kill her and made it worse.

while that is almost a perfect ending to the show, there needs to be some discenrable shot of Welling's Clark as Superman. They need that for the affirmation of the show alone. If they spent 8 years building him up to a character only to show him in silhouette, it'd be VERY disappoitning to say the least. Perhaps they have your scenario play out and the very last frame, is a pan up on Superman from the waist up, and Clark lifts his head to look out over the City, and then cut to credits.

Hey, who let me out of the Fortress?

it should finish the same way we saw Clark flying have him fly out of teh fortress through the sky and up to space then rockets back off to earth.

Hey, who let me out of the Fortress?

see I don't know. The whole show has been built on a tease, a tease of whats to come (which we'll never see). I don't know if it's better for the show to stick to form, and only tease, or if they should deliver. I think my biggest concern is if they even CAN deliver. I mean a great Superman sequence at the end of the show would be good, but only if they can pull it off properly. And I have no faith.

I may get frustrated with the show, sometimes really frustrated or put off by it, but I still have hope... hope, I think, that it can live up to my high expectations on account of my great love for the Superman character.

But you keep watching, so....you have some kind of "bizarre" faith left, otherwise you would've quit already. :hehe:

oh, I'll keep watching, but I'm not expecting anything good to come out of next season.

you on the other hand, if you want to talk bizarre, have oodles of faith in this show, why? I'll never know. All I know, is that a lot of people on this board seem to accept the crap they are being served as first class, A+ TV, which smallville clearly is not, but should have been.

Why? Because I'm entertained, I like the actors, their chemistry, the production quality, and I'm curious about how the series will portray this version of Clark Kent becoming Superman in the end. Every series has its faults, even Lost and Battlestar Galactica, nothing is perfect, some people are always looking for excuses to hate something, just part of human nature. ;)
