8.06 - Prey - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Avid! this place is starting to feel like home again. What with most of the old regulars posting again.

I was annoyed by a lot of the Clark/Chloe interaction in this episode. Much of the characterization felt "off" to me. It seems only logical that Clark would want to investigate the people on that list and Chloe, of all people, should know that there definitely IS a history of violent behavior with the meteor-infected. Not all of them, sure, but her first concern when she found out she was infected was that she'd become crazy and do something violent.

But Clark's behavior felt more aggressive and less thoughtful than he's been in recent episodes. I just didn't care for much of the writing in this one.

*tacklehugs avid* Good to see you around these parts again!

To be fair to Chloe though, being a mentor to those kids, you're going to naturally defend them. It's like if you're counseling a bunch of "at-risk" kids and someone accuses them of something like committing a crime based solely on their reputation, you're going to want to defend them. Especially if you know how fragile keeping them "off the streets" is. If these kids are trying hard to "be normal," having your frined come in and accuse them of something isn't the best way to "mentor."

Hey Mike. How goes it?

It's something that's always bugged me about the Chloe character. She has one sets of rules and standards for herself and another set for everyone else.

Hey Buddy!! Yeah, I just had to make a comment about my dear ol' pal Chloe Sullivan, she really riled me in this episode.

I thought Clark was a little more assertive with her than usual, but ya know he's Superman, and he's dealing with things on a whole different level and because of that I can cut him some extra slack.

On another note, speaking of tacklehugs, my son got up at 4.30 a.m. this morning to watch his Chargers playing in London town, and they lost 32 - 37. :csad:

Hey,welcome back Avid.:yay:

She needs to be professional about it though and not allow her emotions to get involved or develop her own godlike complex, something that she's always tried to bestow upon Clark. She clearly knows the history of the meteor infected and she needs to keep a clear perspective on how to treat and deal with them. Something that she's clearly not trained to do by the way, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

Wow, get up early and they still lose.

Tell him I feel for him, and know how he feels being a Dolphins fan. :(

Yeah, it was a bit of a shame. Being back here on the other side of the world, I dont really keep up with the games any more, so I'm not sure how your Dolphins are doing, didn't they beat the Chargers, but he's lucky that even gets to see them as they only televise a couple of games a week and its usually the Chargers.
Although, I think he has some secret place on the internet where he watches a direct telecast when they're not being aired.

Nice to see ya still here Syncos. :yay:

Hey,welcome back Avid.:yay:

Hey Migu, nice to see you're still here too.

I'm pretty much spoiler free these days ... I find the show much more enjoyable that way, and I'm way behind when it comes to viewing as well, since I have to wait for it to become available on iTunes. I'm usually watching it on Saturday morning, which is Friday night for you. So I think I'll just pop in a few days after the show has aired and make some random comment, just to stir the pot. :cwink: Ya know, I like to keep things interesting. :yay:

I really think *not* reading spoilers has made me a much more enthusiastic fan.

As if I hadn't been one before, but being spoiler-free has helped me enjoy the show so much more...

*hugs*

I hope you can come around some more than you have now that you seem more settled...

Like b24. LOL:oldrazz:

I don't know why...but this is probably one of the funniest things you've said. :D

I have tried...and I have failed. So I look at spoilers, but I am not allowed to share anything I read with my wife, or she will be very angry. She is of the no spoiler mind.

Listen to Triplet, come around more often Sue.

I think after "Bulletproof" I will stop reading the spoilers. I'm going to try, at least.

It won't work Mike...we have too much fun making up theories. :o

One of the funniest conversations I've ever read on this forum had to do with b24's explaination of why it's so hard to read any of his posts.:funny::lmao:

Yeah my wife won't allow me to tell her what's goin on either. When we were watching Prey she wouldn't let me tell her that Davis is Doomsday.(Like my wife knows who Doomsday is anyways:huh:)

After my wife saw that he was really the killer and that he was doing the freak out thing earlier in the season, she asked who he was...so I had her read the Death of Superman.

Most comic related stuff she doesn't know too much about, so I end up explaining who most of the characters are.

She didn't even know much about Superman when we met...heck, she had never seen a Star Wars movie until we met...(Crazy I know) but when we started watching Smallville was when she took an interest in the character, so you can't say that the show doesn't have an effect on people.

Now that could be a fun thing to do.

I cant say that I'm totally spoiler free. I do read the episode descriptions, and I read the little tidbits that Craig writes up, but I dont think that they offer much and things always change after he receives those anyway. But I rarely go beyond that anymore, and I think it was the over-analysing of the spoilers that was making me lose my passion and anticipation for a new episode and that's why I am now enjoying the episodes much more.

So its alot better for me in that respect. :yay:

*hugs* right back at ya

Well, I think the time difference makes it not quite so easy for me to have conversations as such, by the time you've read my response, I'm probably tucked into bed snoring my head off, or is it the other way around, by the time I've read your response, your tucked into bed snoring your head off, ;) ,but things have settled down somewhat and life is getting back to normal.

And you guys and your banter ..... are all just too funny!!! :D

I think this episode was very good about a lot of things but the whole "killing peole monster" didn't hooked me at all.
I think the episode was poor. The only thing that were really great were the Clark's moments and and the parts with John Jones. Speaking of which, I think, in this episode, P.Morris was excellent ! The last scene, in the Daily Planet, THAT was good. The characters were not standing there doing nothing, but really moving. I think that was neat and well acted. There are a lot of subtilities in Clark's attitudes and I think it is as important as the whole story itself. In this episode, several times, I saw what Superman/Clark really was ! For now I am very pleased with this season moving on and going forward. For example ; at the end I was thinking that Chloe was going to fall for this handsome Davis, or that she would kiss him and BAM! Jimmy arrives ... but no! It surprises me. And I found the girl at the end of the episode (coming to "recruit" the "killer") was more convincing that Tess Mercer herself.Cold, serious, excellent.
The only thing was the poor fight, poor thing, poor monster at the end.

Nevertheless, I admit the first aggression creeped me out !!! During the whole episode I was thinking about Doomsday, and the fear he is instilling, and I began to see the villain with a new view ; Let's face it I find him/it completely dull in the comics and certainly not frightening.

Clarky, I agree with a lot of what you said, but taken out of context this line sounds like a tagline for Frankenstein II, referring back to F.I.

The only thing was the poor fight, poor thing, poor monster at the end.

I finally finished my review, but Craig hasn't posted it yet...

Maybe he'll post it later tonight, I actually sent it to him yesterday...

I gave it a 4, btw.
