8.12 - Bulletproof - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Some seem to feel that this wasn't as good as the other episodes of this season, but I personally feel it was every bit as good as the rest of them. I enjoyed the story quite a lot, and it was fun to see Dan Turpin appear on smallville.Very solid episode, I hope they keep this up for the rest of the season, because so far... it's been terrific.

Oh, and Welling has rarely looked more like superman than he did in this episode. The hair is looking increasingly more like in the comics and it's a look that really gives Welling that final piece that was missing in his appearance to completely convince as superman. That combined with a more confident and grown up attitude from Clark is really selling it for me as far as superman goes.

Oh and did anyone else notice that REALLY dark voice at the end where he was talking to that cop? I just wish he'd use that voice more often when dealing with the bad guys.

And just for the hell of it, some screencaps of a very supermanish looking Welling.

Is it just me, or was that Lex's Powersuit I saw a glimpse of?
Holy God, now THAT would be a terrific way to end the series, with a full blown battle between the two former best friends. Gives me the goosebumps just thinking about it, because this wouldn't be just your average smallville fight, but one we've been waiting for since the very beginning.

It just looked like some human enhancement project....probably a better version of 33.1

and I hated that WB is blowing Kreuk by giving her fight scenes just because she's in that BS Street Fighter movie....ABC did the same crap when Garner was doing Alias and she filmed Daredevil during the summer, they gave her some fight scene with sais in some office she was breaking into.....

uh, Garner had fights scenes in almost every episode of Alias, that doesn't really count. She was an action star on an action TV show, and action star in movies. The analogy is off.

KK on the other hand, is the irrelevant love interest on SV, and now an action star... I agree with you on the token fight scene... although you can see, she's been working hard on that choreography... too bad she still can't act.

and again: Cat fight in winter clothing... for pete's sake, the two of them should have been dressed like Maxima was in her ****ty episode. Then the cat fight would have been truely legit... instead of a way to waste 5 minutes of the episode due to lack of narrative.

i totally thought it was the powersuit too, does anyone have screencaps of the scene?

I was bored w/ the episode. Too much screen-time w/ the cop IMO and not enough Clark. I had almost forgotten about Mercy. All of her scenes feel like a waste of time to me. I knew there would be more Clana and that really dragged this episode. Hopefully next week will move the season in the right direction again.

yea i think a good amount of us fans can agree that lana has been a pretty wasteful character since season 3.

I thought it was a very good episode. It definitely stood out from what we usually expect from Smallville, and it was refreshing to see the writers move out of the main Smallville circle of characters/locations and bring in the Metropolis PD in a big way.

Liked the interactions between Welling & Turpin - he's a universe away from the Clark Kent of old, who relied on everyone else to give him advice and help him decide on issues - now he's the one who is pushing other people to do the right thing. Definitely another step in the right direction towards becoming Superman.

Liked Welling's look throughout the episode too. I've been waiting for ages for them to get away from the checked shirts and red/blue combo - nice to see him in something different. I don't think the Smallville audience needs constant visual red/blue cues to remind us that this is the young Superman.

Nice to see some more development of Mercy's storyline, and also the front-page 'Lex Luthor Declared Dead' heading. Does this mean Luthor will ever return (publicly) in the Smallville universe? I sincerely hope he does. I know that Rosenbaum's leaving threw a spanner in the works, but I hope that the future of Smallville includes the billionaire industrialist Lex Luthor from the comics, who is well known by the public ................................. and not the less famous property-hungry one from the movies.

Like everyone else, the only thing that dismayed me in this episode was the Clark/Lana kiss at the end. Definitely a step in the wrong direction. However, I'm optimistic that given the excellent job the new producers have been doing all season, they have pursued the Clana storyline for a specific reason. They've obviously listened to what fans want, so I can't imagine they would bring Clana back just for the fun of it.

Clark never really had any closure from Lana - she just upped and left - so maybe by pursuing it again, his eyes will be opened and he'll realise that Lana isn't truly the one he's destined to be with - and he'll finally close that chapter of his life.

I gotta hand it to the writers for having Olly just verbally own Clark in almost every scene they shared.

Too funny! I thought it was the other way around, Ollie is just more arrogant than Clark and comes off looking like he has the upper hand but his words never hold any weight in my opinion.

I thought the first hospital scene between Ollie and Clark was hilarious. Clark started to feel guilty about MM getting shot and Ollie was like "yeah I know, you're feeling guilty yada yada yada...". He pretty much summed up Clark's feelings everytime someone close to him gets injured. lol

I thought the episode was pretty good, but I missed a lot of parts so I'll rewatch on DVR sometime early in the week.

Neither owned the other. They come from two different schools of thought. Clark makes viable points. Oliver makes viable points. They learn from each other.

I can't remember but did they actually show Dr. Hamilton in the episode? I didn't see the actor who played him in the past seasons. Or is it even the same character?

They basically created the Batman Superman dynamic . Bruce always tells Clark like it is .(and for the most part he's always right )

I have to agree that Ollie owned Clark verbally pretty much in every convo. They do learn from each other most of the time, but this time around it was only Clark doing the learning. At least that's what I saw from my perspective of things.

That was dr steven hamilton a totally made up character for the show and he died way back in season 2. Yes doctor emil hamilton from the comics was in the episode he had two very small scenes and was played by BSG actor who plays the character gata.

Whoa, he was on the show? Lol, I really need to go back and rewatch the episode.

yea he was the doctor wearing glasses we hear talking when john is wheeled into the room, and then clark talks to him a bit later in the episode. Only time we are told its emil is by ollie saying emil is on queen industries payroll.

Okay I just rewatched that scene I didn't see him or heard Ollie say his name.
So I wonder though, if Dr. Steven Hamilton was originally Emil Hamilton, but for some reason they decided to change his name.

'I get it clark, he's in good hands with Emil'... seems pretty obvious to me. And you see him when MMH is brought into the hospital, and wheeled down the hallways, at which point, Emil says 'I'll take it from here'

no steven hamilton wasnt meant to be emil he was like a whitney/chloe a totally made up character for the show. Emil is emil from the comics, though i did wish he had a bigger role in the episode.

... after clark fights doomsday. Just introduce him early to get him into the continuity, instead of dropping him in their like a brick, when Clark is truely injured
