82nd Annual Academy Awards

I'm willing to accept avatar not getting best picture, although I don't see it. But for a director to have the dedication and passion to work on a film for 10 years and drastically change what can be done in film, that's something that they made a huge mistake of not awarding. Cameron should have won best director.

For Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans, it's Avatar BEST picture!

A lot of you say Avatar doesn't deserve Best picture, I don't think you guys are huge Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans!

How could any HUGE Sci-Fi/Fantasy lovers NOT seriously love what Avatar has done for Film-making?!

I NEVER cared much about FPS/Shooter/War Video Games or movies, but Hurt Locker was good movie!

However, it will NEVER be as Groundbreaking as Avatar ever will!

How was it obvious he was playing along Crook??

He at one point gives an incredibly subtle smirk but that was only after he was hammered on for awhile. I don't think he was bitter as some were saying but he didn't seem amused in the least.

Okay i finally caught the Oscars in full, and yeah, it was obvious that he was playing.

Moon or District 9 deserve best picture over Avatar. And that's coming from a huge sci-fi/fantasy fan.

I doubt that.

Loving Fantasy IMO means loving to Imagine something that doesn't exist ... Outer Planets, space... The Beautiful Pandora.

Both movies you mentioned, has a fantasy of ONLY a very limited Earth-like imagination!!!

Oh a Bug-like Alien? Oh a Hal-9000 like computer that's the best I can do with my Fantasy?

Honestly, avatar has everything in the world and overall, it's a fun movie but it's more of a tech movie than anything else. I think if you strip down Avatar, it's a ho-hum film. a fun ho-hum film whereas if you strip down District 9 or Moon, they're great movies still because of their scripts and themes.

So Clooney, who is generally known for not taking himself too seriously and being down to earth suddenly decides to be a bit of a *****e in front of a couple billion viewers? Clooney was playing along, don't take what he did so literally.

UGH! I hate people who make generalizations like this!

By your logic, Jurassic Park deserved BP over Schindler's List. If being grondbreaking equates to best film. I completely disagree with you if you think Schindler's List is a worse movie than Jurassic Park (and I LOVE Jurassic Park).

I am a huge fan of science fiction. I want to get into direction to primarily make Sci-Fi films. Most of my favorite films are Sci-Fi films. But, Avatar didn't deserve BP. The film is groundbreaking visually, but scriptwise, it is a recylced film. I loved Avatar, but that doesn't mean I think it deserved BP. Better Sci-Fi films have been made than Avatar.

I have not seen The Hurt Locker, but of the BP noms I saw, Avatar was not the best.

That's a very narrow view. Many viewers, myself included, need more than flashy visuals to draw us in, and the lack of strong characterisations and particularly original plot meant I was never as immersed as I wanted to be in the world of Pandora

Sci-Fi and Fantasy in general is about having big ideas matching big visuals. That was always the aim of the original Star Trek and why Moon would have been a more worthy reciepent of a nomination, with big ideas and characters drawing me into the story more than the pretty, but lifeless world of Pandora did

btw, fantasy doesn't restrict to just magic and space. hell, most superhero movies are sci-fi/fantasy and most of them are grounded in our reality.

So, am I a bad Sci-Fi fan cause I hate The Adventures of Pluto Nash?

I am just saying I don't care What wins what? It will NOT dicticate what I love to watch just because it wins a BP!

I like what I LOVE from my FAVORITE genres!

Going to love a movie from another lesser favorite genre is not a problem, but if there is a Masterpiece in MY favorite genre (Avatar) I think it's the BEST IMO.

Guess it's testament to his acting skills that some people believed him. I guess under that star quality some people forget he's actually not a bad actor either:o

I think his rep said he was in on the joke afterwards anyway... but I'm unsure of the source

And you're lumping people that don't think Avatar is a masterpiece into a generalized category of non-sci-fi film fans. Which, I find insulting as a Sci-Fi fan.

it must be me, but I don't want to restrict myself as a movie lover to one genre. if a movie is good, then it's good no matter if it's mainstream, indie, fantasy, or sci-fi..

I am just saying that Sci-Fi/Fantasy is Hands down my #1/Favorite/Best Genre, and I like to make sure a great/almost Masterpiece/Masterpice movie in this genre to WIN something...

At least it DID win Golden Globes!

I don't think Avatar really is THAT masterpiece within that genre. I think it's a fun movie with groundbreaking CGI but it's Lord of the Ri...

Wait..you already have Lord of the Rings and that won tons of Oscars. what are you talking about?

BTW, you can't have a blind love for any genre. That means that Pluto Nash should have been nominated and should be beloved by millions of geeks because it's sci-fi.
