Huzzah! Life of Pi!

Also nice to see Beasts of the Southern Wild getting attention. I want to see Quvenzhane Wallis win it.

What is Jacki Weaver doing in the supporting actress category? Like, what did she actually DO in that silver linings blah blah ... ? Was that really more worth than Samantha Barks?!

Nothing for Cloud Atlas, and nothing of significance for The Hobbit. This is lame.

Very interesting, especially if you cross reference the Director and Picture nominations.

I think you can safely count of Les Miz, Zero Dark and Argo for BP. That kind of leaves it between Lincoln and Life of Pi (:awesome:), with Amour as a possible dark horse contender (I have not seen it yet, but a lot of critics are calling it the best movie of the year).

Disappointed to see Moonrise Kingdom left out of a lot of categories, and would have liked to see something from Arbitrage.

I would have liked to see Affleck get the Director nomination, but this has been a strong year for film. Very glad to see The Master get shut out of BP.

I'm also glad Frankenweenie and ParaNorman (and Pirates) getting nods.

You have SLP too... Could Harvey pull off the impossible?

Hmm, maybe. I have not seen SLP yet, but it looks like this year's equivalent of The Help or Up In The Air (both of which I would have voted for BP in their respective years if I was an Academy member).

My reluctance to name it is that it's one of those "small subject matter" movies that often get unfairly looked over because they deal with complex human emotions and interpersonal relationships, on a very human scale that doesn't go for earth-shaking dramatics.

Seth cracks me up.

Cooper is about to get a ****load of offers after that nod.

so it looks like leo He had their curiosity, but not their attention:oldrazz:

I want Anne Hathaway and Frankenweenie to get the wins... apart from that, I really couldn't care.

Awful year all round. Think I'll skip watching it.

I'm kinda mad there's no Leo.

And Jessica Chastain for best female please. It's been coming.

There goes Affleck's year.

He's a good writer and director, and is still fairly young. Argo is the best movie he's made, but not the best movie he will ever make.

We will see him again at the Oscars undoubtedly, it's just unlucky that there are a lot of great films this year of comparable quality.

looking at the overall nominees the academy clearly still has a disconnect with the general audience. They still cant help themselves when it comes to very small independant movies that come awards time most people go WTF is that movie?

It would be a Dark Horse for sure, particularly since David O. Russell didn't make it to so many nominations; SLP winning will be totally out of the blue. By the way, having watched it, I can safely say if SLP wins, it will be one of the worst wins in Oscar history– I found it worse than Up in the Air, The Help or The Descendants– previous "dramadies" which I found extremely unimpressive.

As for Amour, I will be rooting for it to take home the big prize. It's one of my favorite films of 2012 for me– along with Moonrise Kingdom (which sadly didn't get in) and Les Miserables. I'd also hope Riva beats out the two Americans for Best Actress, it's the best female performance (maybe alongside Hathaway) for me personally.

Interesting, I will see SLP anyway, to be a completist (I only have to see 4 more movies to see all BP nominations).

I know nothing of Amour, and will try to avoid any mention of it until I see it, as it's a rare opportunity for me to go see a movie blind of all publicity.

Life of Pi FTMFW!

Isn't this like Amy's 5th nomination? Damn. :wow:

Happy to see Naomi Watts get a nom for The Impossible, but sad that the movie itself, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland were snubbed :csad:

Have yet to watch a few of the other nominated movies, so i better play catchup real fast! :wow:

And Jessica Chastain for best female please. It's been coming.

Totally reminds me for the 1999 Best Actress race.

Lawrence = Paltrow
Chastain = Blanchett
Riva = Montenegro
