I'm surprised by some of the hate you guys are giving to Silver Linings Playbook. So far, that's my favorite film of 2012. I'm glad it got nominations for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and all the main cast members.

By the way, is anyone else amused that Seth MacFarlane is now an Oscar nominee? His song for Ted got nominated. lol.

Well, one half of Flight of the Conchords is an Oscar winner, so it's not too shocking.

I was hoping Skyfall would get a BP nomination. Other than that, the results are about what I expected.

Skyfall would never, ever deserve a BP nod.

I'm a little disappointed there wasn't more diversity in the nominations. It's pretty much all the same 9 films being nominated over and over again. And yeah, I know that's no it usually is, but it seems like the past couple of years they've thrown in a wild card or two as well.

The South Park guys have Tony Awards. Anything is possible.

I can say that I'm completely happy with the Oscar nomination.

- Love that SIlver Linings Playbook got major love. I really enjoyed it.
- I love that Bradley Coper got an Oscar Nomination.
- The Best Director
- Beasts of the Southern Wild was a welcome surprise.
- No Kathryn Bigelow for ZDT? After seeing the movie I can live with that. I have no problems with any of them winning Best Director.
- More importantly for Best Director, NO HOOPER!
- It sucks that Skyfall didn't get a BP nomination, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
- It's official. The Oscars hate DiCaprio.
- Tarantino not getting a best director nod was surprising too but like Skyfall, not losing sleep over it.

The biggest surprise for me by far was the director nominations. I thought for sure Affleck, Bigelow & Hooper would get nominations especially after the DGA noms. Not only that, but it essentially knocks their films out in the Best Picture race as well. Only one film has won Best Picture without a Best Director nomination since the early 30s.

I'd like to see Frankenweenie take Best Animated Film, though it's got some decent competition this year. I'm also a little surprised Danny Elfman didn't get nominated for any of the six scores he wrote this year, but he probably wouldn't have won anyway.

Oh yeah I forgot, nice to see Pheonix's nom for The Master. His performance was stunning and I know DDL has it in the bag I'd like to see him win

On the one hand it's cool to see the lovable talented Hugh Jackman get a nod but on the other I hated the movie so it's a nom for that film and it made it in to best pic. Not surprising and not deserved IMHO.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've got to think that Lincoln is the clear favorite at this point, right? What was thought to be its main competitors just got blown out of the water. Aside from SLP which was always a bit of a darkhorse.

I bet every actor who wants an Oscar is calling David O. Russell now. A total of 7 acting nominations (2 of which eventually won and maybe another win for this year) in 2 consecutive movies is pretty impressive. The Academy sure loves him. Hopefully the streak continues with his next film.

I gotta say though that I'm scratching my head at how Weaver got a nod for SLP. Maybe it's a pity nod to make up for Animal Kingdom where she was superb.

The supporting actor race is a snooze fest because all of the nominees. have won an Oscar before.
