91st Annual Academy Awards

My mans Cooper gotta keep it together, if this true. lol

The film got a nom, but he didn’t get one for directing. He was yelling in the phone, “That’s MY film! How is that even possible?! How is that even possible?!”

I mean, to be fair, I’d probably wonder the same thing.

You’d think the Best Picture and Best Director categories would go hand-in-hand. It makes sense to me that they don’t always, but I can understand his frustration (assuming this is true).

Hopefully not true. He’s lucky he got an acting nom.

White saviors are generally the lead and the magic negro is supporting.

Unsure if you were being sarcastic or not - but, sadly very very true most of the time unfortunately.

I’d say one recent film with white savior where the black guy was the lead was ‘The Upside.’ But, most of the time the white guy is the lead.

Ryan Coogler. All of that by age 32.

Hopefully it’s not all down hill from here.

I’m looking at you Orson Welles!

Agreed. That movie has a wonderful film score, wonderful production design, and it's well-written. It's a movie that if I start watching it, I get absorbed into it. That was a great year for films, though. The BP category was STACKED.

Titanic was and still is an amazing achievement in filmmaking. It was deserving of every award it was given, and it still holds up completely to this day -- unlike many other blockbusters of its time.

All the Titanic slander in recent years has been annoying.

What's weird is that Titanic became the biggest moneymaker of all time, yet these days you can't find anybody who'll admit that they're one of the people who went to see it over and over, etc.

SOMEbody gave them all that money!

C'mon, it took over popular culture for several months. Movie discussion boards were so flooded with Titanic posts that other posters complained about it. People talked about being so affected by it that they were having nightmares about drowning and having to pull off the road whenever the song came on the radio because they were crying too hard to drive.

Where'd all those people go??

The same "hysteria" happened with Avatar, where there were news reports about people falling into a deep depression because the real world isn't as great as the world in Avatar. Both Cameron films.. COINCIDENCE?

I sometimes fall into a depression because I know I will never freeze to death in the waters of the Atlantic ocean after being a passenger on board a luxurious cruise ship.

There used to be (maybe still is?) a fan forum that included a support group to cope with Pandora not being real :funny:

You can always talk to me. It can be hard to play with the hand you're dealt.

The idea of joining any Avatar fan forum sends chills down my spine. I guess the joke's on me though because.. you know, I'm here.

His films are also extremely recognisable. You watch an Alfonso's scene and you can point out instantly that it's his work. Very much like Taratino or Scorcese.

I can't do that with Nolan, Spielberg or other wlite directors.
Agreed about Alfonso, but I can certainly do that with Nolan and Spielberg, too. They definitely have their own unique flavors, imo.

So relieved to see Black Panther didn't get an FX nod. It didn't make my top 10 of 2018, but I'm not exactly annoyed seeing it nominated for Best Picture either. It was expected. Should make for a good show, imo.

Excited for Blackkklansman and Roma though. Can't wait to see The Favourite.

I still wonder why Amy Adams never appeared on several meme till this point. She’s basically the DiCaprio female lol

Probably because Amy comes across a lot less self-serious and...well, desperate (sorry Leo). She's got no qualms about doing light-hearted, goofy stuff or being a supporting player in an ensemble. Leo's career from The Basketball Diaries onward pretty much screamed I'M A SERIOUS ACTOR GUYS, TAKE ME SERIOUSLY!!!! So his struggle for the Oscar seemed more dramatic, while Amy always just seems happy to be here, lol.
