91st Annual Academy Awards

Yeah, sucks when great movies slum it and pretend to be merely "good."
I know right.

Agreed with most of your picks, but my big hope is Cynthia Erivo for the rising star award.

Will post mine tomorrow but I’m expecting an (almost) sweep for The Favorite and for Ali and Malek to cement their spot.

Agreed with most of your picks, but my big hope is Cynthia Erivo for the rising star award.
I had initially put down Cynthia as my prediction for that, until I remembered it was fan-voted. I think the BP fans will ensure Letitia gets it. But as much as I like Letitia, I agree that Cynthia's the most deserving.

Saw Roma last night. There is a lot to unpack with that movie, and I don't think watching it one time gave me its full picture. On first impression, it is a gorgeous movie. Easily one of the best shot movies I have seen. So much detail in every frame. This is a movie as I was watching I kept thinking to myself "Where are you taking me?" and often that answer went an unexpected direction. I think this is a movie I will reflect on, watch again, and appreciate it more on rewatches as I peel back the layers.

The fiance hated it though, LOL! She just said when it was over "what was the point!" It's definitely not a movie for everyone.

Had a chance to watch Roma finally.

Of the Best Picture nominees, The Favourite should be winning. It won't, but it should.

Bale: So congrats on your Supporting Actress BAFTA this Sunday! You’re so winning that.
Rachel: Aw, you think so? Thank you!
Amy: Christian, I will murder you.
Spike: Amy will murder him.

The video Pramit Chatterjee posted underneath that tweet shows exactly how awful that movie is. Especially the editing.

This totally won Best British Film... :hehe:

So stupid. They're trying to have their cake and eat it too. Scrubbing his name doesn't erase his involvement. Own up to it or just don't nominate it.

Of the Best Picture nominees:

Love: The Favourite, Roma, BlacKkKlansman.

Will Win: Sigh... probably Green Book. They ain't giving it to a Netflix movie. But if they give it to Black Panther over BlacKkKlansman.... that'd be almost as bad.

I think the singing guy walking into frame during the fire scene in Roma is the definition of "pretentious" :funny:

I said this previously but I felt Cuaron cared more about making his memories look pretty than he did fleshing out his main character whose feelings barely get any attention then when she finally says how she feels, it's one sentence and oh - we're more concerned with getting that money shot of everyone hugging on the beach.
