91st Annual Academy Awards

Queen + Adam Lambert are now performing at the Oscars because I guess they don't care about time anymore? How much do you want to bet their set is longer than the 90 seconds each the actual nominees get?

Just my opinions and guesses on 8 of the categories. My opinions may change but I'm not apologising for any of them.

Bryan May's powdered wig and the rest of the Queen are now performing

LOL ok so nominated songs need to be shortened but this is happening?

What are you talking about? All nominated songs will be performed at the Oscars.
Did they change their plan? Because they definitely announced at one point only some of the songs would be performed.

Double Toasted has a video up about how to fix the Oscars... it's worth a watch.

This is dumb. Is this the Oscars or the Grammys? If I wanted a cover band, I’d pay to see a cover band.

Well, they're not exactly a cover band, it'll have the original Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. John Deacon is still alive but stopped performing with the band after Freddie Mercury's death because he believes that it's not really Queen without Freddie Mercury. He does still handle the band's finances, apparently.

However, this is an odd move considering time is supposed to be tight-tight-tight and they were relegating nominees to commercial breaks because they just couldn't squeeze an extra minute out of the schedule.

Agreed. No offense to the other band members but Freddie Mercury was Queen. It’s not like Van Halen where every new lead singer brought his own to it and it was still Van Halen.

Since it's finally available to rent (on Amazon anyway) I am finally watching Bohemian Rhapsody.

I can *hear* Rami struggling through the dentures...

Which brings us back to - time isn't really that tight, they just choose to spend it horribly.

that is a good list.
I am sad to say, I have not even thought about it.
I will be watching though.
I always do.

He's right. Queen ended the day Freddie died. That tribute concept in 91 was the last time the band could genuinely be considered Queen. But why on earth, after all the nonsense about shortening the awards, they are letting Roger and Brian perform is beyond me.

Honestly, they probably had this in the works already and that's WHY they tried to shorten the awards.

Ah darn it, I actually really liked Bohemian Rhapsody. Didn't like the rewriting history aspect of things for dramatic flair...but it's also hardly the only movie guilty of that nominated for Best Pic, lol.

Bands are companies who are in the business of selling music. If you are working at a job that existed before you were hired, then you are doing what a replacement member in a band is doing. I'm not sure why so many people trash bands that choose to stay in business after an employee leaves.

And I don't understand why they dont just make the move to give the shorts Oscars off-screen.

It's never the same when the front man is no longer there. There are rare occasions when someone new can come in and reinvent the band, but most of the time it's never the same.

I really enjoyed the movie, but yeah, it was always pretty obvious that Rami was having a lot of trouble talking around his false teeth. It got pretty distracting after a while. Every time he said a line it sounded like they were going to fall out.
