Supporting Actress is where the real intrigue is. Regina King's performance is perhaps the most critically acclaimed performance of the year, but that SAG snub looms large. The cross-membership between SAG and AMPAS is pretty sizable, so if she can't even get a nomination within her own guild it sparks a bit of doubt about her Oscar chances. Meanwhile, the SAG winner this year (Blunt) wasn't nominated for an Oscar, which means the only person to win an award within the industry from her own peers is Rachel Weisz at BAFTA. However, the cross-membership between BAFTA and AMPAS is not as significant as the SAG/AMPAS relationship.

Safe money is still on Regina King, but with that BAFTA win I don't think Weisz can be outright ignored either.

I will admit that I thought Stone would be the more likely of the two "supporting" Favourite actresses to win her category (though I'd vote for King over both of them), but I thought Weisz was also fabulous and I suspect she could get the prize. However, winning the BAFTA had probably something to do with actually being British.

In any event, I still think it's King's.

I finally saw Cold War and it definitely deserves those director and cinematography noms it got. Beautiful film.

After seeing Vice, I was wondering, why this movie doesn‘t received much love.
I thought is was brilliant, tha acting, the screenplay, the cutting. Those 4th wall breaking like the fake credits, the shakespearean love scene, the allegories like the losing of the heart (which he probably never had), the narrator twist, the credits, the after credit scene with the american microcosmos..it was superb.
I‘ve seen Roma, BlaKkklansman, Bohemnian Rhapsody and Black Panther...but VICE I enjoyed the most

I'm calling it: I think Black Panther is going to win Best Picture. I feel like Roma has that Netflix thing looming over it, Bohemian Rhapsody has it's own controversy, and Green Book has it's own controversy too. BP is the "safe" choice of the serious contenders I think

I don't think BH was ever going to win. It was probably nominated because it's popular / Queen.

What about The Favourite?

I feel like they're gonna go with Roma and it's gonna set this new precedent regarding movies on stream.

I'm rooting for The Favourite to upset... but that'll never happen. It's Roma and Green Book, and I"m putting money on the latter because of the Netflix stigma and all the (to be fair anecdotal) articles I've read of Academy voters speaking anonymously, many find Roma "boring" and want to award its visual and technical brilliance but seem cold on it as BP.
