93rd Annual Academy Awards

I am laughing a bit at the mental image of Anthony Hopkins just slumbering away peacefully in some Welsh village while chaos is reigning across the internet and Film Twitter is burning to the ground.

No wait, guys, hold on! That guy is coming out with an envelope to say 'There's been a mistake! Boseman, you won Best Actor.' But on the real, with the shuffling around to have Best Actor and Actress come after Best Picture, and then Boseman not even take home the prize? This is the sort of unpredictable stuff that's worth suffering through the insufferable Oscars.

Kind of like Michael Keaton and Eddie Redmayne, though, I could've gone with either of the two winning without a real preference.
i predicted that Noimadland would win Best Picture. But, I would have been okay if The Trial of The Chicago 7 had won.

I’m dreading but knowing the ratings were probably dismal tomorrow

I didn’t even pay attention this year. Nothing really to root for
Probably lowest ever. Not a single commercial film nominated, since nothing came out last year.

This reminds me a bit of 1998 when they put Harrison Ford to announce Best Picture, expecting a "Saving Private Ryan" win, only for him to open the envelope and look crestfallen while reading "Shakespeare In Love".

Anyway, IMHO this makes Marvel's decision not to recast Black Panther look even worse. Boseman was a great actor and his death was tragic. But no actor is bigger than the role and there is no justification for the cult of personality built around him by some overzealous fans. I understand why some people might feel disappointed and angry now but I think it's a good thing that despite all the sentimental pressure applied, Academy members voted for what they actually thought was the best performance of the year (ditto for the McDormand over Mulligan win).

And on a final note, there shouldn't have been an Oscar ceremony this year, period.

What does Boseman losing the Oscar have to do with Black Panther II? Come on guys, we have an entire Black Panther forum and again, suddenly him losing makes the decision better or worse? Give me a break. But regardless, let us focus on the OSCARS here

I am just mentioning it because I'm tired of hearing how beloved Boseman was and that recasting the role would be a grave insult to all those people who adored him and were inspired by him.
Well obviously he isn't that beloved if 5000 Academy members (most of whom are fellow actors) prefer to hand the Oscar to an 83-year old Welsh guy who has already been honored in the past.

Again, I have nothing with the late Chadwick himself who was very talented and handled his illness with dignity and class. It's just this cult of personality, that has grown since his premature death, that pisses me off.

I see that, true to what happened in the film, Husavik lost out at the Oscars as well for best original song.

Once again, IF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS THIS GO TO THE BLACK PANTHER FORUM!!!!! BLACK PANTHER II IS NOT A 2021 OSCAR NOMINEE.

I won't give you another warning

First thing's first, Anthony Hopkins deserves ever ounce of that Oscar. His performance in The Father is god-tier.

Having said that, hooooooooooooooly **** what were they thinking moving Best Actor to the last category of the night? You know they were banking on an emotional Chadwick Boseman win to cap off the evening. Instead, the ceremony ended on a no-show winner. What an incredible ****-up.

They were out of their minds with that time slot honestly, terrible way to undercut Hopkins's win with such unnecessary confusion.

Like I can't even enjoy the Hopkins win as much as I want to, because of how ****ty the optics are on this. One of the single worst misfires in Oscar history.

The Moonlight fiasco still takes the cake

I suppose it could've been worse. They could've had someone giving a long speech about how black actors haven't been recognised enough in Hollywood, another long speech about Chadwick Boseman's contribution and how he inspired other black men and women to become actors, and a couple of A-list black actors or someone from Black Panther presenting the award only to have to announce it was Anthony Hopkins who won. :o

Is anybody else screaming at the fact that all of the winners at the beginning of the night rambled on and on with speeches that felt like twenty minutes, and then the show ended with Frances McDormand speaking all of four sentences and Anthony Hopkins being a no show?

Disaster.

No one's ever gonna top Joe Pesci's two second speech.
