94th Annual Academy Awards

I wish Ricky Gervais was hosting. I love it when he hosts the Globes and roasts everyone.

You and I both. The other day I was watching the clip from the ‘11 Globes when he presented a two time Academy Award winner and Tim Allen.

Gervais was serving those fools lol.

I might just watch old clips of Gervais hosting the Globes on YouTube while the Oscars are on lol

Disney is treating the Oscars like Republicans treat the Post Office - Trying to make a profit off of something not meant to be commodified and deciding its broken when it fails to be something it isn't.

I really can't see the younger audiences tuning in to a show they don't care about just to see Khaled or Shaun White present an award. Thanks to social media they can see these people all they want all the time. It's not like the past where you had to watch the Oscars to catch glimpses of your favorite stars,

The presenters come out, read a few lines from teleprompters, give out the award, and leave the stage. Nobody who wouldn't watch the show otherwise is going to sit through hours of TV just to watch their fave do a minute's worth of scripted shtick, when they can go to that person's social media account and watch tons of content any time they want.

I don't think that'll happen. I think Beyonce's performance and Will Smith's potential Oscar win will draw in viewers.

Also, clips from TV broadcasts usually end up on YouTube shortly afterwards as well.

I’m beyond ready to see Beyoncé perform again. Beyoncé hasn’t performed at an awards show in over 5 years. This performance is my number 1 draw for the Oscars.

Eh, if they didn't intend the Oscars to be commodified, they wouldn't be airing it during several hours of prime time TV. The MPAA *absolutely* viewed the Oscars as a moneymaker, they just have been really really bad at handling the shifting interests causing it to cease to be as much of a moneymaker.

( Also, for the record, the Post Office actually *is* supposed to 'make money', because its not taxpayer funded and hasn't been in 50+ years. The issue with the USPS is Congress playing budget games where they basically "borrow" money from the USPS budget via a unique and exploitative "pre-funding obligation" that no one else in either public or private sector has to do. Without which? The USPS would have actually turned a profit every year in the past 20. *cough* )

I usually find that twitter has a much faster response time. Give it two minutes and the clip will already be up on twitter.

For example.

*Robert Downey Jr comes out to present the best VFX award dressed in half of the Iron Man suit*

-Twitter post reacting to it

"OMG! RDJ is presenting in his Iron Man suit!"

Followed by a screenshot of their TV during the moment

I mean… he kind of has more important things to do at the moment, slick.

Well let’s not generalize. This seems to be a Penn-only issue.

I’m looking forward to seeing the White Men Can’t Jump reunion

a lot of thing Sean Penn does, is making people believe that he‘s so into politics

I haven’t seen any of the films or performances nominated this year. And the show is always so long and drawn out, and I don’t care for the hosts this year. Actually it’s Amy I don’t care for to be honest. I like Wanda and Regina. So I don’t think I’ll even be watching. I did wanna see some of the things nominated though.
