Idk…looks too baity to me

With the award season about to start, I thought it'd be fun to post a pre-award season nomination for stuff that I saw this year so far... that probably won't get the recognition around Oscar time because it was released too early, but deserves it.

Post yours if you guys want,

I think Top Gun Maverick gets in Best Picture. Plenty of them old timers voters loved it. Plus being a box office hit without being a comicbook flick etc, it is in.

Best director so far, but wont get a nom:

Matt Reeves - The Batman
Robert Eggers - The Northman
Chloe Okuno - Watcher

I'm hoping Park Chan-wook gets a directing nom or at least a best foreign flick nom.

A wee bit early for me yet but I feel comfortable in saying that I think Top Gun: Maverick and Everything, Everywhere All At Once are likely candidates to pop up in the Best Picture category. If Wakanda Forever and Avatar: Bigger and Bluer deliver then I can see them being contenders as well depending on how crowded it gets later on in the year.

I think the surest bet that I can see happening is a Best Actress nomination for Michelle Yeoh and I'd also love to see Ke Huy Quan in the Supporting Actor category.

I can see Cruise getting a nomination solely as a “lifetime of work” recognition. Of course the whole Scientology thing will make it an awkward season if he does get it

Haven’t seen Top Gun Maverick yet so I can’t comment on that. I’d like to see EEAAO, Nope, and The Northman get Best Picture Noms but the only one out of these three with a realistic chance is EEAAO.

I am willing these nominations into existence:

Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Best Director: The Daniels
Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh
Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy Quan
Best Original Screenplay: Everything Everywhere All at Once

Spirit Awards Set 2023 Date, Go Gender-Neutral And Increase Budget Cap

The organization said Tuesday it will switch from the traditionally separated male and female lead and supporting categories for the film and TV Spirits and instead combine them with 10 nominations each in Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance. The same will be true in the TV categories for Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series as well as a newly added award for Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series. Additionally, a third film category is being added, Best Breakthrough Performance, but that one will be limited to five nominees.

The org also has set Saturday, March 4 for its 2023 ceremony which, like last year, again separates it from its previous longtime berth on the day before the Oscars. Instead, next year there will be eight days separating the shows, with the 95th Academy Awards taking place Sunday, March 12. The Indie Spirits will fall smack in the middle of final Oscar voting which begins March 2 and ends March 7, meaning it could still have an impact on voters. This year, the Spirits took place three weeks before the Oscars.

Other changes for the Sprits’ 2023 edition include raising the budget cap for eligible films to $30 million, a figure Film Independent claims is due to the rising cost of production. That cap, which sometimes seemed to be subject to interpretation in certain cases, has, at least officially, increased incrementally over the years: in 2006 it was $20 million, and in 2019 it was moved up to $22.5 million.

10 nominees ? Yikes!

While I appreciate what they’re trying to do, this ain’t the way lol

Colin Farrell getting raves for Banshees.

Cate Blanchett as well for Tar.

Colin Farrell may be crashing the Best Actor race. :awesome:

This horniness all the networks have for reliving the slap is going to stay with us for a ****ing decade, isn’t it?

Wait a minute...the Golden Globes are being televised again? I thought the HFPA were persona non grata these days.

I guess they got their sh** together or maybe NBC caved.
