95th Annual Academy Awards

Have to wait until next week to see Banshees. Pretty annoyed.

Grad School is of course hitting hard now that all the contenders are starting to drop. I'm hoping to see Tár this week but don't know if I'll have time. No clue when Banshees will open here, which is frustrating.

Both Tar and Triangle of Sadness are opening this week for me, but I am so busy this weekend which sucks.

Hoping to catch Decision to Leave this week since The Banshees of Inisherin isn't playing widespread in my area yet. With all the buzz it's been getting, I could see Decision to Leave maybe getting some nods.

Well, if I already wasn't going to watch before, certainly not interested now. Kimmel's never struck me as an interesting or funny host. He's not even the funny 'safe' sort of host like Billy Crystal.

GOOD.

Meanwhile, I really think they shouldn't bring that stupid Twitter poll back. That think was a mess that was hijacked by internet trolls and overzealous groups like the Snyderverse Cult.

It's gotta be the front runner for best song.

Um so Colin Farrell is kinda steamrolling Best Actor precursors so far.

I wouldn't expect any less from The Penguin.

I doubt they'll bring that stupid thing back especially now that they're broadcasting all the categories. I've said it before but the best part about that whole ordeal of Snyderbots hijacking the polls was that it all got completely overshadowed by the slap.

Dammit, now I'll be tempted to actually watch it.
It's gotta be the front runner for best song.

Best Original Song is going to be a tight race this year between this, "Lift Me Up" from Wakanda Forever and Lady Gaga's song from Top Gun.

Can’t believe it will be almost a year since The Slap

AFI Top 10 Films and TV of 2022 Revealed | IndieWire

AFI Movies of the Year

“Avatar: The Way of Water”
“Elvis”
“Everything Everywhere All at Once”
“The Fabelmans”
“Nope”
“She Said”
“TÁR”
“Top Gun: Maverick”
“The Woman King”
“Women Talking”
I liked Elvis but I'm kind of surprised to see that on there.

Is it too early to start talking Best Picture nomination locks? I'm betting EEAAO, The Fabelmans, Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar will all be Best Picture contenders.

As good as he was in The Batman, I liked him more in The Banshees of Inisherin. Dang that movie was so good.

I'd say there's definitely some locks across the board. In BP, Fabelmans, Maverick and EEAAO are all-but sure things. Avatar is seeming pretty likely, too.

Fraser/Farrell/Butler and Blanchette/Yeoh are locks for Lead Acting, too, at this point.

As far as wins go, though, this is feeling like the most suspenseful season we've had in a while.

Locks for Best Picture:
Avatar: The Way of Water
Elvis
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Tar
The Banshees of Inisherin
The Fabelmans
Top Gun: Maverick

Strong contenders: Babylon, Women Talking, She Said, The Woman King, A Man Called Otto (heard it played well with AMPAS voters).

-Despite starting out strong, I think Fraser's gonna have to settle for a nomination. Best Actor will be Austin Butler vs. Colin Farrell (I'm leaning towards Butler).
-I think Cate Blanchett has to be the favorite for Best Actress right now.
-Ke Huy Quan might as well get his acceptance speech ready for Best Supporting Actor. This is done and dusted.
-Best Supporting Actress is an absolute mess and impossible to predict right now.
