A Buffy the vampire slayer reboot movie?!

Season 5 was amazing. Glory was an amazing villain because her and Buffy could fight and just be snide snarky *****es to one another.

It was the beginning of Buffy having to grow up and take charge.
Indeed. In many ways the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It's only after the final character-defining piece, The Gift, do you realise how extraordinary S5 is.

I agree, but I'd say season five wasn't the beginning of her growing up--it was the end result (by the end of the season, anyway). What made it even better was that her death set her back so significantly, and it took her another two years to get back to that place she was in at the end of season five.

Angel's not gonna sell as a movie past the fan audience, Buffy would sell for some general audience members.

Absolutely.

Didn't Boreanaz bring up wanting to do one at Comic-Con?

I remember Boreanaz and Marsters wanting to start a petition after Angel was cancelled into bringing it on the big screen. Marsters stated he wanted to do it before he got too old.

@JustABill- I disagree. Most of the general audience knows Angel is a spin-off from Buffy and is one of the most critically acclaimed television shows. So I think an Angel film would do very well.

I always had this idea that if they did do a movie. They could Merge Buffy & Angel. To where Buffy brings all the newly powered up potentials to LA in the middle of the fight that Angel & his gang were in, in the Alley. A huge epic battle between Angels crew, Buffy's crew, & Wolfram & Hart.

To be quite honest, and this is someone who made sure they turned in to every single Buffy ep when it aired and still watches reruns to this day, both properties are such niche types of shows, that neither are that much of something that would pull in general audiences. Honestly, Buffy at its height pulled in only around 5 million viewers, numbers that would have most shows quickly canceled on the major networks. Buffy was a success, but a success in relation to the smaller networks that it was on. It's a cult classic for its very loyal, but still relatively smaller fanbase. And it was that fanbase that made it the success that it was, and it's that fanbase that wants the character to return in the similar vein to what it was with the show. That's why I find it ridiculous for the one producer to say that there's a big following of fans wanting the character to return, yet they're ignoring everything they've seen so far. Most other people either don't know or don't care what it is. A recent imdb poll about this movie fits right with what I trying to say:

How do you feel about Buffy the Vampire Slayer being remade without the input of Joss Whedon?

Staked, right through my heart. This is the saddest remake news in a while. 4223 (53.5%)
Unaffected. I didn't tune into Buffy the first time around, neither the movie nor the TV series. 3042 (38.5%)
Very enthused. I'm interested to see a new take on the character and her destiny. 401 (5.1%)
Secretly enthused. If my friends found out I'm into this idea, I'd be banished from our circle. 226 (2.9%)

As you can see, of most of those that even know about the property, don't want the remake and very few do. Most others out there don't even care about it. So unless this movie really comes up with something to knock the socks off of the general audience and manages to change the minds of the fans of the old show, it will bomb just like the first movie. Honestly, they'd be better off just trying to come up with something in a similar vein with an original idea.

Ah, so this is where that thread was hiding.
Anyway, Stoked about a Buffy movie; just concerned about it being Joss-less.
For the record- Liked the Movie / LOVED the series.

I'm tinkering with a story where Buffy and Scott Summers meet cause they're long-lost cousins. Professor Xavier sends Scott to Sunnydale to stop Buffy from slaying vamps cause Prof X thinks vamps are just other muutants. What do you guys think?

You See? You See where this franchise can go astray without Joss’ guidance?
AAaarrrrggg!

:funny:

They shouldn't be remaking this. The show was already amazing, why do it? Unless you want to do a movie that continues the show, leave it alone. Do something original that was inspired by Buffy. You know, like creative people do. Don't just reboot it to make a quick buck.

There is no way this tops the show.

This would be just an attempt to reboot the original film. They couldn't touch the TV
series If they wanted to.This means Buffy herself Is the only thing besides the concept of slayers this film would have In commone with the series. And remember how bad the
film was people? The people who screwed up Joss Whedon's original script now want to reboot the bad film.

I love how literally every actor from the show has absolutely **** all over the idea of a movie without Joss involved.

Although i don't really care if this film takes off or not, i'm still kinda glad to see how bad the reception for this project is, glad to see the Buffy love out there still kicking.

Not only have the cast and Joss slated it in front of the media, but so have pretty much everyone else out there who's aware of the show.

Really though, the original film flopped, the series had a solid 7 year run and it's been years since it stopped airing, maybe just let the Universe die the way it is and not bother "rebooting" something that CLEARLY people don't want to see unless it involves Joss. The movie will tank if it's made and released, it has pretty much NO audience.

The thing is, Joss is still continuing his universe with his season 8 and 9 comics, not to mention that he has been trying to make a movie for the buffy franchise for years, he wasn't able to make the Spike movie because of money issues, now with The Avengers he may have a big success in his hands, if the movie in least does Transformers or TDK numbers then Joss may finally be able to make these movies or continue the Buffyverse in more expencive ways like TV
