I'm a little confused. If women are the N-words of the world, then what are black people, the ones the word is actually used toward?

According to Bright, that would make them Orcs.

My mother has said this for years actualy. As an example to back up her position she would point to the fact that African American males got the voting franchise before women of all colors did. This is also true of any number of other countries though there are always a handful of egalitarian exeptions of course. But when you look at the lot of women in most societies up until the very recent past you will see a definite pattern of political and social and economic disenfranchisement. We can't just lay that on Western colonial impact either. Both pre and post colonial conditions for women in a wide swath of countries is far from ideal and this is across continents. We really tend to forget that the recent Western norms that have been somewhat adopted around the globe are just that... recent. In most places up until maybe a century ago or less most people in the world lived in the way their culture had been for literally a thousand years of more. That's certainly true of Asia and Africa and the Indian subcontinent. For many of those cultures it was just a fact of life that women didn't vote didn't own land or property and didn't have control over their own lives. Look at only one regressive state today in Saudi Arabia where women are just now getting the right to drive. Let me put it another way... Even in the worst times of the colonial era of European powers if I could take you and place you as either a woman or a man as a member of an indigenous population given the disparity in power most would choose to be a man given the treatment and rights of women in those times and places.

Franlly I get tired of this attitude from some that African Americans have some sort of monopoly on human suffering and that no one else's experience can be compared to their experience. Yes, what they went through was a crime and absolutely horrid. But in terms of human suffering they arent alone. For 100,000+ years in most societies women were treated like absolute dog **** and brood mares. In ancient Rome, women had no rights. A woman was entirely under the control of the oldest male of the household. Roman women couldn't own property, couldnt defend themselves legally, had to marry who they were told to marry, could be killed by the head of house, could he raped and used without any say in the matter etc.

Also in ancient rome at one time women didnt even get their own personal name. They were just called by the family name. For example a daughter born into the family of Cornelius would be called Cornelia. If a daughter was born into a family with multiple daughters they would be called by the family name and given a number. So for example the second daughter born into the Cornelius family would be named Cornelia Secundus. The youngest daughter would be called Cornelia Minor. Scorpio Africanus's wife was named Aemillia Tertia.

And in some ancient societies in poor families daughters were seen as such a "wasteful" monetary and resource expense that they would just be killed at birth.

Plus, when an ancient army conquered a region women and children would almost always be be captured abused used moved and sold into slavery.

African Americans dont have a monopoly on human suffering. Countless human groups of all skin colors have been enslaved throughout human history and women have suffered just as greatly as African American slaves.

Two things. If you need to say you are the "N-word of something", that is basically the acknowledgment of the suffering of black folk in the US since before it was even formed was another level entirely. It marks their suffering as something different. Something extraordinary. Second, it wasn't that long ago. We still have people effected by it, alive today. It's still very raw, still very visceral and thus use of that word brings out a lot of feelings.

That being said, do people really downplay the suffering of women or the Jewish people? I mean, outside of racist, sexist piece of crap like our President?

Here's the thing tho. The N word implies something truly horrible. Its immediately connected with horrible human suffering. It epitomizes some of the worst suffering in human history. It can be said that it is the worst thing a human can call another human. There is no word like it in the English language that can epitomize women and their historical suffering. No word that immediately makes people think about what women have suffered throughout human history. So I think it's fair to say women have been treated like the N Words of the world. Because that's exactly what they've been treated like for thousands of years. Like slaves, property, third class citizens, and refuse. And unlike with African Americans women's suffering is universal. It supersedes race, creed, skin color etc. Its half the worlds population. Half of an entire species.

I think the only thing that Bette can be faulted for is co-opting the N Word. I understand why some black people could feel upset by that. Youre right it is recent and fresh in the minds of many African Americans daily. And a white woman in particular co opting the word would piss some people off. But Bette isnt wrong.

And let's be honest. If Bette had said 'Women are the slaves of the world' shed probably be catching just as much **** for daring to compare the plight of women with the suffering of slaves.

And yeah I've heard from people that dont give a flying **** about the suffering of other groups (Native American's for example) while acting like American Slavery is the end all be all of human suffering. Whats really bizarre is the way some people dont ever really realize or consider that black skinned people are not the only people that have been enslaved. I guess it's just tunnel vision and poor education or just a general lack of giving a **** about history.

There is a reason there is no comparable word to that one in the English language. And when white Americans try to co-op it or start complaining about how black people react to the use of it or the practice that saw them seen as not real people in the USA until 50 years ago, it comes off in a particular way. I fully support women and women's right. Today was a very dark day in US history. One that was somehow a repeat of 25 years ago. Still, there are better ways to express it without using that very specific word.

That’s a shame, I’ve been gone for a long while, did it break some kind of new rule I should know about?
Not a clue but I am assuming it violated some rule for it to vanish.

And that is how Thanos grew the neck of Jar Jar Binks.
Good night, San Diego.

@KRYPTON INC. @flickchick85

I just remembered that awkward story of Jimmy Olsen wanting to reveal Superman's secret identity to the public, and a bit that follows down the line. I think the biggest two Superman fans in this place should join the fun with this thing.

Satanus owned an apartment building in Metropolis, long before it burnt he offered an apartment to Lois & Clark while Clark was electric and before splitting into two, that apartment building went ablaze and everyone got out. Jimmy was in the WGB building looking at some footage captured that shows clearly how much Clark looks like Superman.... and that led Jmmy to believe that Satanus (in his Colin Thornton guise) is actually Superman.

I'll state that one of my favorite bits is when Jimmy was chased by Intergang, and sought refuge in the limo of Thornton who kicked him out.

It seems the Reekness Monster has been summoned.

How may I assist you, my child?

I ain't given you no tree fiddy. I don't care what kind of girl scout cookies you have.

You're really hitting on me hard tonight... Now... Allow me to do one of those.... Butt in the moonbeam walks.
