Superman Returns a question concerning the hospital scene

this may be a really dumb question, but i never understood what made superman come out of the coma/come back to life.

was it:
a. lois telling him with a whisper about his offspring
b. the son giving him a kiss
c. his body finished a regenerative healing process

thanks for the answer

I don't think there's a clear cut answer. It's most likely a combination of all three.

There's also the fact he probably didn't get much if any sleep the night before because he didn't have an apartment and was probably out saving people. So he had kryptonite poisoning that made him unconscious and probably briefly flatlined him. Combined with lack of sleep the night before. Now he might not need much but this might have added to his remaining unconcious after the kryptonite was taken away. Also he was exposed twice though the second time was also linked to the first as a small sliver was probably gradually sapping him and ended up seemingly to kill him (the flatline as mentioned). Just some thoughts.

its C

as for A and B, you know how Doctors say that those in a coma are still aware of their surroundings. Supes heard what Lois said and felt Jason kiss him. thats why the soonest that he's able he went to see the mother and son.

I think C's the answer as well. He just needed some time to heal.

He didn't get any sleep, brilliant.:woot: I thought he slept in the supply closet. A lot of people were upset he didn't thank the hospital staff. I think it is because he had no insurance. I mean, armed guards, all the staff, the defibrillator he blew up. The bill would have been incredible.

Thanks for the compliment Armand Z Trip. About the hospital he might visit them later to thank them.

Well, what it actually was was a forced allegory for Christ disappearing from his grave, logic and effective storytelling thrown aside.

He almost died twice and just found out he had a son. I find it perfectly understandable that he'd want to see him and that'd be the first thing he does. I don't see how it wouldn't be understandable.

there are tons of questions unanswered. sorry. it's all depends on personal interpretation. and that's terribly confusing.

Yeah. Many things are there for the audience to interpret using his own brain. Of course under the assumption that they have one to start with. No spoonfeeding here.

The answer is:

d. It was an allegory of Christ rising from his tomb, leaving just his shroud behind.

Of course, Donner's/Reeve's Superman would have thanked the hospital staff and flew off to wild cheers from the crowds outside... but.. this was not that kind of movie. It kinda worked, despite the Christ symbolism being spread a little thick...

How were logic and effective storytelling thrown aside?

Their "plot" was constrained by the allegory they were trying to tell, and in doing so they had several poor beats and character arcs, certain parts, rather than flowing from a logical story or character driven place were rationalized only within the context of said allegory. Look, I didn't hate the movie, I didn't love it, I'm a moderate person and I'm just throwing my opinion out there. To me, Superman suddenly disappearing from the hospital in the manner he did is a bit uncharacteristic, it's not that big a deal, more a symptom of the underlying problem with the script.

Honestly, I never saw the whole "Jesus" thing in SR until it was pointed out on these boards. I mean, I obviously saw the similarities between Superman and Jesus, just as it's been evident in every incarnation of the character, but I never really saw SR as a direct allegory and so it obviously never felt forced to me.

I guess I could see why him leaving the hospital like that could be seen as uncharacteristic, but personally, I liked it better than a cornball crowd applauding scene ala Spider-Man. To me, him slipping out like that was more a testament to the fact that he wouldn't want to be showered with praise, which seems quite Superman-esque. Also, given what he'd just been through and heard, I doubt he'd want any more attention than was necessary.

Nothing about SR seemed like they were trying to shove a Christ allegory down my throat, but that is but the opinion of one man.

Actually, the Jesus stuff wasn't too forced, just unnecessary. The plot problems occured because Singer had to force the lonely man stuff down our throats. He wasn't making a Superman movie, he was continuing his same "I have no place in this world stuff". He did it with Apt Pupil, X-Men, The Usual Suspects and now Superman.

Instead of ruining Superman, Singer should just get some therapy.

d. his subconscious finally picked up on the fangirls demanding a rewind to the defibrillator scene, and he got the heck out of there

Okay, fangirls and some guys. Better?

Isn't that the same thing? I'm lost...

I take it you haven't encountered fanboy discussions about his chest and muscles then. 'Cos you'd find out guys and fanboys aren't the same necessarily. Though not everyone is obsessed about such things including all fanboys - just a subsection of them. :D

I've seen plenty of arguments among guys who think he's well defined enough but too skinny, guys who think he's bulked up OK, guys who think he's OK other than "too much water weight", and guys who think he's just plain not ripped enough and ought to look like The Rock or worse. Ugh. Haven't seen many posts by guys happy to see him as-is with his shirt off. Then again, those are probably threads I haven't been reading or following...

That's because the noisy ones are usually the ones disatisfied. Not those that are happy and I don't think this or most Superman forums would be the place where there'd be such discussions (about liking his looks in a blatent manner). Oh well.
