I'm posting these questions because I think they're very important for someone considering this course of action to find an answer to.

1: You would probably never see muggings while on patrol. Or, at least, it would be a very uncommon occurrence.

2: How would you know that the police can't respond?

3: What would you do if the police arrived while you were still there?

4: What if the police do not accept your offer to help "as backup?"

5: How do you plan to acquire a contact on the police force?

6: Again, how do you plan on capturing known criminals the police are after?

Considering the fact that life isn't like Gotham City where the police pretty much allow a dozen or so vigilantes to beat up poor and crazy people on a daily basis, what makes you think the cops won't arrest you for making their jobs harder and not to mention being a vigilante is illegal?

You do realize that any cop would be looking for an excuse to arrest anyone who thinks that dressing like in a costume and attacking people whom they think is a criminal is a good idea. At best you might do something useful at worst you'll be killed very early on.

You say that you have family in law enforcement? Ask them what they think of people who would do that. Don't be specific about yourself, just give a general idea of your capabilities and resources then ask how useful they'd be to law enforcement. See how much they laugh at the idea.

Well if I have a good friend that knows about what I do, then he could be my source. He would know what I do, and that means he knows how far I would go to protect how I got the source. Again, it would be a while from now

Aight- well, as for the making their jobs harder, I don't "beat up poor and crazy people" I stop crimes in progress. If someone is getting mugged, I stop the mugger. If a store/bank is being robbed, I help as much as I can. I don't make their jobs harder, I make them easier.
