Days of Future Past About That Ending (Spoilers)...

I think there's something incredibly poignant about having Cyclops, Jean and Storm, the first X-Men team we first see on screen, fight against the X-Men's greatest villain. I feel like if everything ended with Apocalypse it would be the perfect ending. Like everything just came full circle.

AWW YOU GUYS, PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT IT'S A SEND OFF! NOOOOOOO!

Haha, but seriously, it can be interpreted in many ways. Call me a fool or a sucker, but I really want to see the OT cast in a movie that is more dedicated to them. Now that would be a send off. :yay:

At this point, it's still kinda hard to let go of them considering I grew up with the OT. I was 10 when X-Men (2000) came out and that movie changed me.

Good to see Kelsey G. back in the blue - even if it was not as well done as his X3 make-up.

So, this thread is really about those final scenes that take place in 2023 (SPOILERS BELOW, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED)

....How did you feel when Wolverine woke up in the future and found that all of the original trilogy cast is back?

Honestly, it felt the most "X-Men" to me since X2. In that classic sense of seeing Wolverine trade barbs with Cyclops, Jean Grey being there, and even Kelsey Grammer's Beast making a cameo. If we want to talk about amazing nostalgia, this scene was laden with it.

Do you view it as a send-off for these characters or an open-ending for a return to them in their classic default status? After how much X3 ruined these characters for me, it was actually an emotionally cathartic moment. Things are back to the way they were always supposed to be.

The scene was just amazing!

It would be JUST weird and wrong decision if Fox decided thats it for the OT cast. The OT cast feels more X-Men that the other cast in my opinion.

How long are they gonna keep making movies in the past, when we already know who would make it to the future?

AMEN TO THAT.

Plus, if the future with the FC cast, well then maybe they should have left the OT cast alone, like they changed the timeline and the future is a big mystery and not trying to save the future of the OT cast in DOFP and then bringing back James Marsden as Cyclops and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey back from the death at the end of the movie. It should have been a TOTAL wipeout, no idea about the future no idea of X-Men's roster in 2023.

Having younger version of Storm/Cyke/Jean is so expected, people have been saying that even before the OT cast was announced to appear in DOFP. I feel like Apocalypse will just be a prequel movie to the altered future that we saw in DOFP. Well they are basically telling a story that already happened in the 80s.

The scene was amazing--no complaints.

If it's a sendoff, so be it, but I'm hoping that the OT cast gets at least 1 more movie. That scene was just too enticing.

Everything from the futuristic tech (holograms, hover chair), to the school back in session, to the way the characters were paired...everything was as it should be.

And where's Magneto? Maybe after 73 he set up the nation of Genosha with his Alcolytes. And maybe Mystiques running the brotherhood. So many possibilities that I'd love to see explored.

I liked that they didn't include Magneto in the happy ending and also Mystique. I know they joined the X-Men in the comics, but in the movie-verse, it wouldn't feel true to me.

We got the 10 X-Men that were introduced in the original trilogy, who wore their black leather X-Men uniforms and it was perfect for me!

I don't like that Apocalypse is with the FC cast, and I'd absolutely hate it if we didn't get another OT cast movie. But at least we have another Wolverine movie(I say this thinking it will take place in the OT time and not another past movie).

I'd like to see Wolverine get acclimated with the new timeline, find out if his brother alive etc...

In reality, you're pretty much correct. We know what the future holds for this FIRST CLASS cast, considering this ending. There's no mystery to it.

Having said that, with APOCALYPSE possibly being Fassbender, Lawrence, and McAvoy's final film together in this series, I want to see it...even if it's just setting up status quo for future X-Men installments.

We technically don't know what the arrival of APOCALYPSE will do to this cast, specifically Erik and Raven because we never got a glimpse of them in the new future. We know where Charles and Hank end up.

This is my sole reason for being interested in the next one.

Now, if they could some how get the original cast back together for a X-Men 5 (DAYS was part X-Men 4), that would blow my ****ing mind. I don't see it because of how expensive that could get for Fox but maybe I'm wrong.

Ideally, they now need two more movies in the past - one in the 80s, one in the 90s - to lead to the altered future.

But leaping a decade each time is naturally going to mean exposition on what has been happening in the previous ten years, as happened in DoFP.

To match the new 2023 ending, you'd need as many films at you want. You don't have to leap a decade every time they do a new prequel film.

In the end, all that matters from here on out if they just decide to fill in the gaps between the 1973 ending to the new 2023 is to make sure that they remember who was left standing in the new future, so there's no continuity issue.

But, they can go anywhere. All we saw as that it was 2023. The school was up and running beautifully. Xavier, Jean, Scott, Storm, Kitty, Peter, Bobby, Hank, and Rogue were all alive and well.

They can pretty much do anything in between, just so long as they don't forget the ending of this film.

Hmm not really. I think they could do it with just 1.

Given how they jumped from 1963 to 1973 and how they jumped from the ending of The Wolverine into a dystopian future show that the producers aren't really in need to exploring every single thing that happened in the past.

Fassy/Lawrence/MaCavoy thats pretty solid for the next film.

It's a bit testosterone-heavy.

Fassbender, McAvoy, Jackman, Hoult, Channing Tatum, whoever plays Apocalypse, and some are suggesting Cable too. Seven guys? And just Jennifer Lawrence as female lead?

That's not a very good balance.

When I saw Kelsey's Beast, I had chills everywhere. I thought X3 was ok mainly because Beast is my favorite X-Men and Kelsey nailed him.

I think if we don't get the OT cast again it's going to suck for me. Older Beast is much better than young Beast and we haven't even seen characters like Nightcrawler or Angel return. I feel like it's an overall waste of time to get these younger versions of characters that aren't the full-fledged characters we know and love. To have to wait for them to grow into those characters(after we've gotten great versions of those same characters in the OT) is too much of a chore. Like Beast. You're telling me I have to endure young Beast for yet another movie? So I get 3 movies of him and only 1 real movie with adult Beast? That's bulls**t.

"Oh, Beast sucked in First Class, but he'll be better in DOFP because he'll be the Beast I know and love."

*DOFP rolls around*

"...You mean Beast is still the same timid, growly voice-having kid who's appearance is altered with serum that he was in FC? The only thing that's really changed is his agility and look? OH, guess he'll grow more into the Beast I know and love in Apocalypse. Right? Right?"

:funny:

I had the biggest smile when adult Beast was just strutting down that hallway. And I wished they gave us a better look at him.

Just referring to the ending, I loved how storm was wearing a white suit, it was beautiful, she looked stunning, a lovely homage to her comic book costume

This ending made me leave the cinema with a smile on my face, it saved the film for me.

In a film called X-Men it's a bit crap that we have to wait until the final moments to actually see a great incarnation of the team. What did we have for the most of it? Walking Prof X, Wolverine, human Beast... No thanks.

This is what the films should be. Let's get the classic X-team at a school teaching the next generation of mutants and going out and stopping the Brotherhood.

Singer heavily implied that we'll see younger versions of Cyclops, Jean, and Storm as well.

Yes, and Nightcrawler too, but those are hardly likely to be lead characters.

There's no reason to assume that they WON'T be main characters.

probably my favorite part outside of the opening segment

If they are giving Jennifer Lawrence a lot more screen time (I suspect she'll be a good guy by the end of the film), I'm sure they'll be happy with that. Honestly, Kitty Pryde, Storm, and Blink were just cameos in DOFP. It is the same line-up that drove most of DOFP, plus Gambit.

That is unless they add Cyclops and Jean, which I can see totally happening.

I'm just thinking, how old are the 2023 OT cast?

Let's say Xavier & Magneto were in their late 20s/early 30s in 1973. In 2023, they are in their late 70s/early 80s which could fit.

We will have Storm, Jean, and Scott in the next film which takes place in the 1980s. Let's say it takes place in 89 and all 3 are 20. That means that they are 54 in Future 2023.

Does that sound about right?
