This is a noble and necessary goal. But considering this past week, am I to assume the letter combination is on purpose and thus probably inappropriate?

The dragging of Ben Shapiro over that letter combination was great, though....

That in itself is a crime. Have them put out fires, then deny them the right to become firefighters when they supposedly have paid their price to society. They just keep on paying it then people wonder why when no one will hire ex-cons, they go back to crime.

At minimum, inmates who help fight forest fires should get credit toward their release.

Also, we need a focus more on rehabilitation than punishment, especially for petty non-violent offenses or people with drug addictions, and we need a pathway to reacclimating to society after release, including help finding homes and gainful employment, to reduce rates of recidivism.

If they want a job as a firefighter they are already well on the way to rehabilitation. The criminals that keep reoffending endlessly have no intention of ever getting a job.

They have no chance currently because felons are barred from even applying.

It’s a vicious circle if there’s no legitimate path back once you get a conviction for something. The system is almost incentivising you to stay a criminal.

I can't think of anything witty to say at this point. It's just so maddening and just so sad.

That was nearly 7 years ago btw.
