Abuse of Power Thread (Cops, Governments, Etc.) - Part 2

I get the why of it, I'm just not crazy about the idea. :(

Violates the 4th Amendment for sure.

The why is bull****. Its a cover to have a "stop and frisk" policy with drones. Most of the complaints used to justify it will likely be fake.
Pretty much. I do have doubts it's a policy that will last.

PennLive - Ex-Philly police officer charged with murder for shooting driver
The district attorney’s office also released police bodycam footage of the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Eddie Irizarry. It showed Dial firing his weapon through the driver’s side window of Irizarry’s sedan during a vehicle stop on Aug. 14. Dial shot Irizarry about seven seconds after getting out of a police SUV and striding over to Irizarry’s car, according to the video. Six shots were fired.

It sounds like this shooting may not be so cut and dry. The officer's partner shouted, "He has a weapon!" But doesn't say what kind. The officer then shoots and retreats, even taking cover as if he thought the weapon was a gun. So, if the officer felt his life was in danger from a gun, he may get a lesser charge. It will be up for a jury to decide.

Don't give justification for a shooting that never should have occured. The story keeps changing from he "lunged at officers" from outside the vehicle during a traffic stop to this cop getting out of his vehicle and firing within 7 seconds while the victim was still sitting in the seat. Next we'll find he wasn't driving erratically but probably just wanting to avoid another confrontation with police and made a mistake so they could justify pulling him over.

Oh, I'm not justifying it. His partner should have said knife, instead of weapon. That bit of clarification could have stopped this from happening.

Seattle officer captured on bodycam saying woman struck by another cop 'had limited value' | king5.com
A Seattle police officer was traveling at 74 miles per hour just before his police cruiser struck and killed Jaahnavi Kandula, 23, in an intersection in January, according to a case investigation report. In the body camera footage published on Monday, another officer who was not involved in the January collision was captured in the video saying, "but she is dead" and laughing while on the phone. "She was 26 anyway," the officer said in the video. "She had limited value."

Sounds just like the sociopaths playing Call of Duty multiplayer on their Bluetooth headsets.

They must be bold, saying stuff like that when they know cameras are everywhere.

What an awful story! Shame that cops would do such a thing. :grr:
