I'm not sure how late I am on this topic but Accumulating excessive wealth is a deadly sin????? wtf!

So let me get this straight the pope lays down new deadly sins and me as a Catholic has to live by that now? Where did he pull that out of his ass?
So in a way the catholic people should be earning a certain amount...and when is it too much wealth?

:huh:

Rules like these are only part of the reason why I don't believe and outright think a lot of the time that religion is full of s***.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if there is a God, he sure as hell is Not 'all loving'.

The pope said accumulating mass wealth was a sin? He probably only said that so the parents of fondled little boys would stop asking for the Vatican's money.

Why bother trying to understand it? It's all made up BS. They made it up.

I'm basically poor . So it's comforting to think rich people got it coming to them . heh .

I think the church would accept a large donation of money if it was offered. The whole thing is hypocritical.

So greed is OK with you guys then? Because it seems to me that that's where the origin of most of mankind's suffering begins. I'm not religious, but there's some truth to "The love of money is the root of all evil."

What about the people who work hard and earn the wealth?
Sure some people with lots of money are evil a-holes but
it's up to the person to make the right decisions in life.
Hell even people with not a lot of money are a-holes too
who are greedy.
So what happens if I warn too much? Do I quit my job and
retire? I believe in God, Jesus etc but I don't believe a person(pope) of high power should be making new deadly sins when he, himself is a wealthy man.

He probably expects you to give the "excess wealth" back to the church...

If you become wealthy of your own accord, but it starts to change you, then I can see what they're getting at. Becoming like Scrooge or whatever. There are those wealthy people out there that we respect, but they are the ones giving to charity and what not. Bill Gates owns the ****ing planet, but because he gives millions to others every year, we don't view him as an evil guy. And most of us in our young and idealistic days, we viewed the very rich as "the man." Corporations that buy up everything and turn the masses into drones, etc.

But don't worry Pedos... touching young boys still isn't a deadly sin. :up:

Good point. Bill Gates has spent 100 million so far in trying to cure Malaria.

Funny how little we hear about that on the news, though, eh?

It wasn't the Pope that Stated it. It was a Bishop during a Magizine Interview, comparing these "new" deadly sins to the old ones.

Greed=Excessive Wealth
Pollution=Sloth
Gluttony=Drug Consumption
Envy=Genetic Manipulation (evying god's power)
Pride=Inflicting Povery

so and so forth. I'm not catholic, and thought this was silly, until it was explained to me. It's not "new" Sins, only the original sins inturperated in modern times.

Well, remember the story in the Bible with the rich guy who was all "what I gotta do to follow you man?" And Jesus was like "give up all yo moneys son." And then the rich guy was like "heck naw!" And Jesus was like ":(."

When your money becomes more important to you than God, your family, etc, then it's a sin. But also, who cares what some old guy in a funny hat says. Stick with the Bible, and do what you think is right, decide your own beliefs. My opinion anyway.

If someone has worked hard and earned that money through their work, it's that individual's choice to give to a charity, give back to the community or whatever. Being charitable should never be forced or compelled on anyone.

I also see some irony in that this is coming from the church or someone that works in the church. The various cathedrals and abbeys and other opulent structures of the church weren't build by a god, or it's angels, or the clergy. They were built by the followers, who had to stomach building a massive cathedral while they had to make do with a shack.

Then again, that has always been true of every religion in human history

I like Carlin's take on it:

"The Church gets billions of dollars each year, pays no taxes, but they always need a little more from YOU."

It's all BS. They made it up. I don't even try to understand it anymore, it's pointless. It didn't come from some higher power, we just made it up. Accumulating wealth any way that's not illegal is not morally wrong. Even if you don't give to charity.

I'm Catholic and I haven't agreed with this Pope's decisions since he was elected, and with this I really dont like him. The other recent "deadly sin" he passed was about conserving the environment. Rediculous.

Oh and the other one about not inflicting poverty on anyone, this is funny as someone was saying to me that when he was a kid he would go to sunday mass, after mass everyone would eat and drink tea. Across the road some homeless people would hang out. The kid asked if he could give the homeless people some food in which he was told no because these people are not apart of the Church and the kid asked why not let them in a pray? In which he got the answer, because they are not allowed to be apart of the Church.:whatever:

Wow...just wow...

Another sign that a lot or dare I say Most followers missed the point of Christ and are in it just for themselves. I don't know about anyone else but from my Catholic upbringing I would have thought Jesus would have welcomed anyone in the church who wanted to be accepted...especially people of Need.

This is why God and Jesus have higher power and we don't:oldrazz::woot:
