Actors who you want to "wait and see" if they are any good

I don't blame Tatum for G.I. Joe, however, his lifeless performance certainly didn't help the film. If, at some point, I see AGTRYS and my opinion of him changes, then fine. However, I personally don't care enough to run out and rent it simply because a couple of guys on a message board recommend it.

You said Worthington is a bad actor a few pages back. I agree with you there. However, someone else here said that they'd seen a bunch of his older Aussie stuff in which he was actually good. Are you going to go find those films in hopes of changing your opinion of him? I know I'm not.

All three of which are terrible, terrible movies with utterly crap writing and directing.

Tatum was good in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. In fact him and Shia LeBeef were the best things about that movie. Which shows that when given PROPER film roles and directed by someone competent, they can both be good actors.

Plus you know Oliver Stone cast Tatum in Pinkville. Oliver Stone doesn't usually cast people who don't have any talent.

Well, he did cast Nicolas Cage in that World Trade Center movie. :cwink:

jk, I like Cage... some of the time, anyway.

I never knew he did older stuff, I assumed he was an unknown from the get-go.

Tatum was good in A Giude To Recognizing Your Saints. Probably because the whole film suit his demeaner, and he wasn't really acting that much. BUt it was believable like the whole film.

No I probably won't. But I'll keep an open mind. Everything I've seen Tatum in apart from AGTRYS he has been totally crap, I won't deny that.

But last time I checked Rob De Niro was totally crap in Rock and Bullwinkle and Meet the Parents. Doesn't mean he is a bad actor.

Obviously I'm not comparing Bob De Niro to Channing Tatum, I'm just saying no matter how good an actor is, they'll ALWAYS have a crap performance or performances in their career.

Touche sir, touche :D

Bring back the Raising Arizona and Matchstick Men Nic Cage! Although I heard he was great in Bad Lt.

Yeah, I like Cage, but he needs to be a bit more selective when choosing roles. Although I've heard Bad Lieutenant is good.

However, he also has that Sorcerer's Apprentice film coming out and something where he plays a medieval knight. Maybe those films will be okay, but I'm worried.

Yea he definitely has been choosing some crappy roles in the last few years.

I never knew he did older stuff, I assumed he was an unknown from the get-go.

To American audiences he is, but apparently he did a bit of work over in Australia.

However, I'm still not sure what he did to make Hollywood hand him a career on a silver platter.

I think with Worthington he has that every man quality that people connect to. He doesn't look like some ripped beef cake ala Vin Diesel or Dwayne Johnson that most people can't relate to. "Oh look! 300 pound beef cake saves the day! AGAIN!" you know what I mean?

With Worthington he looks like your average joe, but he does also look like he can have a scrap. I think studio's are going for those sorta guys with their action movies these days.

But he needs to show more personality. I mean Bruce Willis was that kind of action star, just an average looking guy. But he had personality by the bucket load, obviously.

Worthington in clash considering he wont be cgied half the movie, and im looking forward to seeing Noah Ringer act

Maggie Grace. I know people were critical of her performance in "Taken", but I thought she did fine with what was given to her. I also think she was pretty fantastic in LOST. I'm sure a lot of people hated her character, but I thought she was great. Now she has like 4 movies coming out this year. She has "The Experiment" with Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker about the The Stanford Prison Experiment which I'm really interested in. She's also in that Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz film "Knight and Day" which I think looks great, though I doubt her role will be that big or significant. But the movie that I'm waiting to see to see if she can hold her own is some movie called "Flying Lessons" in which she plays the lead. I am not completely sure what it's about off the top of my head but it's her first lead role really so I'm looking forward to seeing how she does.

Also, I thought she was good in the "Jane Austen Book Club" with Emily Blunt and Hugh Dancy. So I guess I already believe she's good but I'm looking forward to seeing her in more things.

Brandon Routh. I unlike others, was not impressed with his performance in Superman Returns, but given that he was barely given anything to do, I'm not sure if he's a good actor or not. Waiting to see how he does on Chuck and Dead of Night.

Worthington outperforms Bale in terminator salvation and then is the main lead of possibly the biggest movie ever. He has only one way to go. down

I love this argument, which is the only explanation I ever hear when people defend Worthington. They can never explain WHY they thought Worthington "outperformed" Bale in Terminator. It's just summed up with the following: "Bale sucked! Worthington was better!" Great. So in other words, being better than someone who was terrible constitutes great acting.

Personally, I didn't think either of them were great or bad in the movie, just average because the script was so bad. Both characters I found to be pretty unlikeable, because they were written that way. Connor was a bit crazed and paranoid and Marcus was just pissed off and confused. Both acted like a dick to pretty much everyone they came in contact with. The only thing that gave Marcus' character an edge I guess was that his story, not his character, was more engaging. He's the one exploring this strange pos-apocolyptic world for the first time, whereas Connor is relegated to sitting at a table listening to his mother's tapes. And it doesn't help that he's also given terrible dialogue where he's just stating the obvious "If Kyle dies, I don't exist!" (or whatever he said there). Well, duh. And of course, giving him that stupid "I'll be back" line was painful.

But these are faults of incompetent writing and directing, not acting.

Someone just got wrecked
Great post

except I liked the I'll Be Back line:woot:. People say that all the time in passing, but the "Come With Me If you want to live" line was:dry:

I thought Bale was terrible in Salvation. He just seemed so jaded and uninterested. You can just tell he did not enjoy making that movie.

Worthington was much better, not only because his character was written better but because I felt he was more into it. Sure he had a few accent slips but that doesn't bother me really.

What bothers me is the zero effort Bale CLEARLY put into his performance.

The "I'll be back." line was Jonathan Nolan's idea. He ran it by Bale. Bale like it and told him to write it into the script.
