AFI's NEW TOP 100

Tis ok. I never liked 'A Tango in Paris' and in certain movie elitist circles, that would get you shot, stabbed, burned, and tickled to death. I also don't like Dustin Hoffman that much, although I like some of his movies a lot. Weird.

You know you loved him as Cap'n Hook:woot::oldrazz:

i can accept a lot of people's differing opinions I guess I'm not an elitist snob.

You don't think I was calling you one do you, cuz I wasn't.

Anyway, its funny when Eva Mendes appears and states the completely most obvious thing ever.

"A streetcar named Desire"? I never liked that movie. I know for a film fan to say this is like an act of treason, but I really hated that movie.

The movie is crap. Its the story and Brando's performance thats brilliant. I think its a better stage production than a movie.

don't worry I didn't take it that way.
They had to put mendes in there somewhere but they didn't want to give her a lot of lines to mess up. Poor Eva.

yeah unless you don't like Brando's early acting. Apoc now was great, but I just could not get into his early stuff. On the waterfront put me to sleep too.
sorry

Honestly, I don't see what's so great about Forrest Gump.
It's a good movie though, I just don't see what's great about it.

I just think its interesting, considering all of the things that he's seen in his life. Kennedy, Vietnam, meeting John Lennon, etc. Its all about the last half of the 20th century.

forrest gump was the yearbook for that generation.
It would be like if someone made a movie for us in 20 years where a likable bumpkin met Kurt Cobain, Bill Clinton, Michael Jordan, W, Robin Williams, helped out with Katrina, El Nino, and saved a baby during 9/11

I always considered Chinatown highly overrated. I've watched it several times and the only thing I get out of it is Nicholson's performance. I love Polanski and Nicholson, but this movie just doesn't do it for me.

Exactly!

Yah all right I guess. Maybe that's why I find parts boring.

wow with the exception of "eyes wide ****" and "Full Metal Jacket" Kubrick has all of his movies in this. I expect to see FMJ later on.

No, he doesn't. His early films aren't on the list. The Shinning isn't there. Barry Lyndon isn't on there either. And the ones you mentioned as well.

I love Barry Lyndon. Great movie. The Killing and Paths of Glory are some of the earlier films you mentioned.

I'm so mad that when they showed ET they had to use clips from the CG redux.

Eh, just watched it. I prefer the old list.

Watched the whole thing. A damn fine list.

I am not one to rank the best movies oro the best movie as I think that is impossible considering how different films are. I can say "well LA Confidential deserved to be added over Toy Story or Titanic," but in the end it is a damn fine list.

Those are 100 classics whcih all are fantastic films. I liked it. I also love Citizen Kane for its technical achievments and how it revolutionized cinema forver. Compare what came before it and then after, for example....but just because it was fresh in my mind The Godfather's better.

Still a great compilation and an enjoyable viewing of some of America's finest movies.

not kurt cobain, Axl Rose :yay:

why do they do this every year. They never really change anything. Now if they put something like the thing, or evil dead 2. Then yeah thats a change. Then I might start likeing these lists.

I do sorta agree. If they were to just post the list on the internet, would it really make a difference then having to show a 2 hour countdown show? It was unnecessary. I've never seen the AFI one before just now, I was expecting a celebration with huge stars and giving out honorary awards.
