AFI's NEW TOP 100

i like imdb's top 200 movies better

That's the only thing I really disagree on that's been said (besides Evil Dead II and The Thing being among the 100 best films of all time)....

IMDB's top 250 IS TERRIBLE morons vote on that thing for whatever is the flavor of the week they just saw. There is no way Grindhouse is among the top 500 films ever made much less top 100, and I like that movie.

Too many bad movies and great movies get get ignored on that list because internet geeks get angry and spam the voting with lots of 1s.

With that said I didn't realize they took of The Third Man on top of My Fair Lady and Patton...just, WOW! I'm glad to see Do the Right Thing and LOTR added. I'm not sure Titanic should have been, very monmumental as being the only sweeping romance this generation has connected to on film but it ain't Casablanca or Gone with the Wind.

But Toy Story being on is kind of sad. Glad to see Fargo gone, though.

Agreed. As much as I love ROTK, I would never put it above Seven Samurai as in IMDB. But it's nice to seem Empire Strikes Back have a higher ranking than ANH.

And while I like Pulp Fiction, it doesn't deserve to be #5.

But that's just a couple of notable annoyances from IMDB's list.

I respect Toy Story making the list since it not only started the genre but is still easily in the top 5 of any CGI animated movie since.

but still no Jurassic Park :(

IMDb's list is not accurate. The movies don't get an equal amount of votes. There's movies that get 10 votes and others that get 10,000. People shouldn't take that list too seriously.

Why? It's a great movie. 10 yrs from now it will be back and will invite its friends, Usual Suspects and Se7en.

why wasn't the Matrix on the list, it literally Revolutionized action movies into the 21st century

Most of those were well deserving movies. Surprised 2001: A Space Odyssey was higher than The Godfather Part II, Dr. Strangelove (among some others). Titanic should have been lower or not on the list. It wan't that deserving. Disappointed Gladiator didn't make it, and that Ben-Hur wasn't higher.

Yeah, I think Titanic shouldn't be on the list, but neither should Gladiator in my opinion. I didn't like it, but I could see how people would like it merely as a good summer movie. Perhaps Alien should have been on there instead. And no Robocop? Perhaps the list is too short, but oh well.

And no Robocop?

These lists are a reflection of its voters. 10 yrs from now when our generation has a say you'll see Matrix and Robocop and Usual Suspects and Nightmare Before Christmas on the list.

I think Gladiator has a blend of Spartacus, Ben-Hur, and Lawrence of Arabia that makes a fantastic picture. Immediately walking out of Gladiator, I said it was going to win BP at the Oscars, and I was right.

Alien and Robocop deserved to there also, but the list is short and you have to ask what would you cut for them.

I also would have liked to see Blade Runner up a little bit. That was a fantastic movie.

Grindhouse should not be on IMDB list. It completely discredits the entire thing.

The Matrix should be eventually, but I haven't seen the Usual Suspects, so I can't comment on it. Nightmare Before Christmas is a maybe to me, just unsure if I would actually put it there.

Well said.

Usual Suspects deserves to be on the list, maybe. Matrix, nah though.

After I saw Goodfellas in the first 10 I stopped caring what made the list.....

That and Se7en will definitly be on the list 10 yrs from now. Those two movies have been VERY influential to our generation's filmmakers. Requiem for a Dream is another one that has a shot.

As too low or it should not be on the list?

I agree it was too low. But I'm glad it's on the list though. Still not sure about Citizen Kane being #1, though.

Se7en I agree has a great shot. Requiem for a Dream I don't think does. Great movie, but not top 100.

Hot Topic sells a lot of merchandise for Nightmare Before Christmas, true, but fans don't equal a top 100 spot. I don't think it will make the AFI top 100.

If Robocop makes it in the future, I will be happy.

And personally, the best movie for me is Schindler's List, but I do acknowledge Citizen Kane is very deserving of the #1 spot. I knew it was going to be that or The Godfather at #1.

I disagree. Requiem is a great film. Its only flaw is that its a tough movie to watch.

Then again, Toy Story, made it and its not even that great of a movie. Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Nightmare, and Lion King are WAY better!

We are in total agreement here. I also liked Tarzan more.

It should be top 20 at least. Im sorry to say, but Citizen Kane will now and forever be overrated as long as it remains #1 on that list:o

I was happy with what i say and i started watching around 60, it was good but I havent seen Citizen Kane. I now have a new list of movies to go see even though i have seen just about all of those there are a few that are just damn hard to find.

Wow... Seriously no Amadeus? That's one of the greatest ever... And why are Rear Window and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest so low? No se7en? I discredit this list...lol
