Man, it would've been INCREDIBLE if they had thrown Falcon in with the final fight. Fighting along IM and War Machine.

he probably busy with winter solider

don't worry we see him in infinity wars I hope :yay:

Saw AoU again last night and it's even better the 2nd time! I caught more this time and it actually made the movie feel like it had a better flow than I'd originally thought (though it is still a bit choppy at times, but not as distruptively as I'd previously felt it was).

Anyways, more importantly than all that I THINK I FIGURED OUT WHAT THE STRANGE POOL THOR WALKS INTO IS!!!

In the movie it's called The Water of Sight...but it's believed to be known as The Well of Wyrd in the comics!

The Well of Wyrd is a pool on Asgard whose waters intersect with the ley lines of Yggdrasill. The waters of the pool have various magical properties, allowing (among other things) the ability to see events from throughout space & time. First introduced in Thor Annual #11, the pool has been mentioned numerous times throughout the comic's run, again as the "Well of Wyrd" in Thor #347, then later called the "Well of Life" in Thor #374.

In the movie Thor mentions there's a similar pool in each of the nine realms. When Thor gets into the waters it allowed him to revisit his nightmare, which appeared to have actually given him some foresight instead of just fear and sadness like the other Avengers. This probably happened because he's Asgardian and therefore more "magical" if you will...

Another fun note about the Water of Sight...in one of the first trailers there was a glimpse of a black woman standing in front of it...perhaps Whedon an co. should have left whatever scene that was attached to in the movie because I bet it explained The Waters better than the short/jarring/confusing scene we received in the actual movie...perhaps it'll be back in the rumored extended edition.

One of the things that actually bothered me a bit was the Vibranium and how it was implied that it's the same stuff as Cap's shield. In the comics, I believe the shield is an accidental alloy of Adamantium and Vibranium, which makes it unique and obviously much more precious.

In AoU, it seems as if they're saying Cap's shield is only made of Vibranium (Ultron even says all humans did with Vibranium is make a frisbee) which makes it much less unique and important. It becomes replaceable.

If Ultron was covered in Vibrianium and still took damage then it strengthens the theory that Cap's shield is a special and unique mixture, which I welcome.

I don't think it really matters, since the shield isn't what makes Cap special. Take the shield away from Cap, and he's still Cap.

Also, given how much vibranium is in it, I suspect replacing it would not be trivial, unless you make really good friends with Wakanda. . .

I didn't really catch this, can someone clear it up for me? So was Ultron Prime in the final battle made of Vibranium or not? If so, it's strange how they were able to damage him. I think Cap's shield could take been that jaw-droppingly epic tri-blast. And if not, why didn't he use it on himself? He kept upgrading himself and had the Vibranium to do it.

I'm also still unclear on what exactly Vibranium had to do with the floating city apart from being a giant magnet.

Well, Vibranium is an earth based metal. The beams came from Vision's infinity stone, Thor's star built hammer, & IronMan's Cosmic Cube based repulsor blast. Very powerful and not earth based forces. Even with that, Ultron held up well to a helluva lot of power in that scene, IMO. At least that's how I look at it. Plus, Vibranium has to have a melting point, how else would they shape it into a frisbee? ;)

Got my second viewing today. I swear the audience behind me sounded like a laughing track.

I loved it more with the second viewing because I'm prepared for what's happening.

Its the second week here in Sydney and the cinema is pretty full.

Loved this line from Ultron: They have the strongest metal on Earth and they made it into a Frisbee.

Hahaha

Yep, that's a good point. Also, Ultron was a form made with Vibranium instead of a solid disk of it, so it makes sense that he has weak points and he's not as structurally sound as an actual shield of Vibranium.

Wait, Iron Man's repulsor blasts are Cosmic Cube based? Since when?

If you need an explanation, how about "Ultron only had so much vibranium free for his final body, since he used so much making the doomsday weapon and the Vision".

This is what I've been saying.

Look at the size of Ultron, there's no way he had enough to make the body completely out of Vibranium. It's likely he just had a coating of Vibranium.

That's good too. At this point I've gone full fanboy and I'm just thinking of all the tiny details :funny: It doesn't really matter and they can't explain every tiny thing.

So who else LOVED the Trinity in this movie? One of my favorite things about the team was the relationship between the big 3! Their talk about "revels", their discussion at the end, and just overall I thought it was so awesome to see them together and finally a team. It really did feel like a 3 way co-leadership between them. Whedon nailed it. I loved the bromantic dialogue at the end, about how they'll all miss each other, and Thor touching Tony and saying, "besides this one, there's nothing that can't be explained." :funny: This movie was a geek's dream.

Also, this shot had me drooling.

Well technically it's the big four, but.....you know.

My favorite Hulk moment was actually him sitting alone in the Quinjet. It was such a poignant image...Hulk sad :(

Also, I love how Hulk is always the one who gets to deal the final blow.

I'm still shocked how subtle Marvel went with Stark's role this time. His major action was in the middle of the movie as was sidelined much of the finale. Props to them for that.

I think it was probably needed. The fact that he actually got top billing alone above the title in the last one kinda speaks to that.

Wait, Iron Man's repulsor blasts are Cosmic Cube based? Since when?

All of Stark's replusor tech is based off of research on the Cosmic Cube. Howard started the research (probably did 90% of it) and Tony finished it when he was able to create the new element.

Definitely. It allowed some of the other Avengers to get some shine unlike the first one.

Still thinking about Widow and Hulk though. All that time on their wasted relationship could have been used for the twins or Thor. That continues to irk me.

Thanks for that info. :yay:

I got that part but what did it have to do with Vibranium if anything?

I've seen several questions about how the vibranium in the floating city would have any extra effect. Well, I haven't seen it mentioned (but it could be in here somewhere, I just scanned through the thread)....but my thoughts on it are this.

We have seen what happens when Cap's shield (made of vibranium) is hit by a big force such as Thor's hammer.....a giant wave of energy is shot out from it (levels all the trees around them in the first movie....knocks down bad guys in this one)....so if a large chunk of the city dropping from miles up will have a bad result for the earth....imagine how much bigger the bang will be when it is from a big chunk of vibranium.

Loved this movie. It felt like a natural follow-up to the first one. From the opening tracking shot to the final battle, I was happy to be spending time with these characters again. I don't understand the criticisms about balancing the characters at all. The main Avengers all get their moments to shine. The team felt lived-in and like a family. There are times when someone in your family does something stupid, and you get angry, but you still come together in the end. Nor did I ever think this was just a commercial for Civil War or Infinity War. Yes there were seeds sown, but it worked in context of the movie.

The Bruce/Natasha romance did not feel forced to me. It's clear we weren't watching the beginning of their flirtations but that it had gone on for some time so I was ok with it. They are both damaged people who feel they have past sins to atone for, so I bought it. I do wish they would give Hulk a few lines. He doesn't need to have witty banter but if he's smart enough to pilot a jet, he should talk.

Loved Clint's backstory as well. I wish they had thrown in a line with him addressing the events of Winter Soldier, but making him the grounded, realistic conscience of the team was a nice touch.

As for Ultron, he was developed enough. I actually thought he was a better antagonist than Loki in the first one. It's really because of Spader. I liked that he a touch of Stark's personality. Otherwise we would have gotten another one note villain with no charisma along the lines of Malekith.

Only two minor complaints. It definitely felt like there was a scene cut where Thor and Selvig had a conversation about that pool. Secondly, Quicksilver should not have died. I get why, but he was such a fun character to watch that I wanted to see him in the next one.

Otherwise a solid 9/10. Can't wait to see it again.

Something I am wondering (it could have been discussed before, but I have stayed out of this forum until after seeing the movie...I do not live to be spoiled, I prefer the surprise at the theater)....but do people think that QS being killed in here was part of the deal with FOX to use him in the first place?
