Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 3x20 - "Emancipation" - Discussion Thread

Can I also say that I really like Pasdar as Talbot, the more we get of him, the better.

I'd still argue Daisy is the most powerful Inhuman (Hive notwithstanding). Lash can probably do the most physical damage, though (with Lincoln in second).

It just kind of came out of nowhere for me. Helfire's powers seemed more Gambit like in earlier episodes. Then he pulls out a chain and grabs a guys ankle with it. Cool scene. Then all of a sudden he could rip through Lash's (previously impenetrable) torso like paper maché?

I'm going to say that Mack is not going to be the one to die. They are not going to tip their hand like that with Elena giving the necklace to him. It is almost certainly someone else.

Not sure I'm fond of really anything in that fight scene. Not enough Lash v Hive: Dawn of Justice...from its previous use, I was unaware that Hellfire's powers made something so unbreakable that it would tear through a monster like Lash which had previously proven to be pretty invulnerable....I didn't like that Lash existed solely to rescue the more important Daisy.

The preview showed Fitz holding Elena's necklace too, so they're definitely messing with us.

If Fitz dies I will throw the tantrum of the century. :argh:

Completely agree with all of that Heretic. Really the only things I didn't like about this one.

Exactly. What was Lash's purpose? To save Daisy? Were those other innocent Inhumans he killed at the beginning of the season a threat to her? His instincts drew him to hunt down Inhumans. You'd like he'd have the instinct to take out Hive while he was down, instead of slowly helping Daisy, then turning his back to the fight like he had served his purpose.

I get the whole Hive is the pretty boy Devil and Lash is the ugly monster who heroically sacrifices himself... I just didn't like the execution (both literally and figuratively).

It's just kind of a clunker. We all kind of expected that as the climactic showdown...got all excited for it over the weeks...and then it fell flat and it turns out that all of the Lash story happened to tell us that Daisy is even more important than we thought after the thousand other times the show has told us how awesome she is.

Since when did they build up a confrontation between Lash and Hive. I don't even think it was hinted at prior to this episode. The viewers kind of expected some type of meeting just because the two storylines needed to come together somehow, but the writers didn't really tease this.

They've been foreshadowing it.
Lincoln has been saying every transformation follows a design and purpose for several episodes now, and in the episode Andrew underwent the final transformation he mentioned that he felt Lash would be of use to SHIELD.

I guess there have been some comments now that you mention it, but it was pretty subtle. I just never got the impression that an epic battle was being set up. I was pretty happy with what we got in this episode.

Also characters seemed to appear and disappear during the battle. Lash injures Hive, walks away and Hive is suddenly gone. James come in, sneak attack, kills Hive, then Daisy knocks him to the ground, still conscious. The door was open. He could have just grabbed her or killed her. He's right there and she has time to slowly mourn Lash, get up, start the plane and fly away. Very Clunky.

I said we expected it...not that they told us it would happen.

Yeah, it seems like Lash's death instead of him fighting or killing Hive was like a "You thought this was the only way, and instead of allowing you to have guessed what would happen, we no longer care about that idea because it's predictable. Instead we will kill him off just to prove we can pull anything out of a hat to kill Hive if we really want to."

e.g. A waste of a good character.

I get that Lash would want to kill the Hive that was in Daisy, but he wouldn't stop there. He feels he needs to KILL an inhuman, not remove part of an inhuman from an inhuman. Even then it seems he was too weak. Like all of a sudden he isn't even as tough as a human when that flaming chain goes right through him easily. At least let him fight the stupid flame chain before you let him easily kill him. He was strong enough to whip Hive.
I didn't like it at all.

But the idea of saving Daisy by sending Lash was cool, you just don't have to kill the only being who can end Hive to do it. Especially when he is supposedly so powerful, but then is killed instantly. Unless he let himself die because he felt he fulfilled his purpose, but then again, why does he feel the need to kill inhumans? If not to kill the most powerful one, but instead save an inhuman from the grasp of the most powerful one.

Idk... maybe he isn't really dead... like that will happen.

Maybe they have a better way, I just feel they decided to do a work around for some currently unknown reasons.

Right now it seems to be even money that it's Fitz or May. Didn't we see Jemma, Mac and Daisy crying in the preview for the finale?

Very clunky and poorly written to be honest. Why didn't Lash just finish Hive and burn him to hell? Then, he could go over and "cure" Daisy. They could have handled it better with the same results had it been choreographed competently.

To be honest i really dont want anyone to die dare i say even lincoln is growing on me. I have feeling even if someone were to die they will find away of bringing them back. Its gonna be a great finale its been an amazing season.

Can't they just kill Galaga guy?
He's still SHIELD, right?
Kill him

Good episode.
Lash was cool and Hellfire was awesome. :woot:

Decent ep.

Mack better not die. Elena giving him the chain is probably a red herring.

I definitely appreciated on how the writers didn't forget that Coulson is still a fan of Captain America.

Hehe, Fitz and the Tantrums ;)

To me, May feels the most superfluous, Lincoln has the disadvantage of not being a comics Secret Warrior. I also see some overlap between Fitz and Mac and Jemma and Lincoln (although the latter are certainly steps down). I mean, I'd have no problem if it was metal melting guy either, but that seems underwhelming.
