Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 4x04 - "Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire" - Discussion Thread

Solid episode. When Robbie snatched the chain though!

Watching Phil Coulson in tonight's episode almost made me think of him in the movies during phase 1. Saying the full name of Shield, the glasses and the way he talked during the prison scene. Just looked like the Coulson of old.

The comic superhero codename of Jeffrey Mace, who in the MCU is the new head of SHIELD.

I'd like to think that MCU Jeff Mace wasn't the Patriot prior to being bumped to SHIELD director, and that said heroic identity might come into play later in terms of finding a new American hero to replace Cap.

I could be brain farting right now...who's Patriot?

This episode was great.

Mack: "Did two fire guys just fall into a warehouse filled with explosives?"

Coulson: "You had to see that coming."
The Director of shield Jeffery Mace WAS the Patriot, in the comics he took up the Cap mantle when he (Cap) went missing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_(comics) the wiki has two but Jeffery was the first

He was the Patriot in the comics, which doesn't mean he was the Patriot in the MCU. So far we know almost nothing about his MCU past. In 'Uprising' he says that he is known for his "work with international affairs" which could mean that he originally worked for the United States Department of State.

We'll see, we'll see :D

We thought exactly the same thing. It was nice seeing old Phil back :)

It's almost embarrassing how much I was marking out during Ghost Rider's scene.

Could've done without the Daisy worship, of course.

A plausible timeline of events could be working with the Department of State (or the UN), then he went through Terrigenesis to gain his powers. And then at some point, he got tapped to lead SHIELD due to being a "hero".

James was doing a lot of Overwatch's reference in the episode:

Loved this episode. I loved the brief fight between Ghost Rider and Hellfire, especially with Robbie grabbing the flaming chain from James/Hellfire. I was glad that they used James in this episode because he's a neat character and a great antagonist.

The fight scenes in general were fun to watch in this episode, and the car chase between Ghost Rider and Coulson/Mack was very nice.

I enjoyed the team-up between Daisy and Jemma, and I liked how Daisy finally got back together with Coulson and the whole team, and now the team has Ghost Rider as a new ally. It'll be very cool to see the team try to solve this whole case involving the ghosts and the magic book.

Man, I loved this episode. I hope GR brings viewers back!

does Hellfire do any other Overwatch references in this episode?

I never played Overwatch, but apparently

"It's a perfect night for a little mayhem!"

is one too. And the croquet balls were supposed to look like Junkrat's ammunition.

And apparently Simmons saying "You got it.", "Nailed it." and "Just in time." were intentional subtle references to Tracer.

According to Coulson, both Red Skull and Daniel Whitehall were searching for the Darkhold. Imagine what could HYDRA do with that book.

What if the Time/Reality infinity stone is in the Darkhold, and Thanos retrieves it for his infinity gauntlet?

The Reality Infinity Stone was the Aether from Thor: The Dark World. Last known location was with the Collector

True, could possibly be the Time Stone, however currently speculation (nothing's actually be outright confirmed) is that [blackout]Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto contains the Time Stone (given some comments from Feige about what the Eye is capable of, not to mention some of the Doctor Strange tv spots that have showcased time being screwed around with)[/blackout]
(edit, decided to put that under blackout tags just in case)

The damn Red Skull couldn't find it.. despite the fact he knew of aliens, and gods.. but not a worry, our heroes of Shield can fjnd it!!

Incredibly unlikely. No one watches this show other than people who follow the MCU, generally. They will not introduce an infinity stone in this movie.

Red Skull didn't exactly have the super technology of present day SHIELD.
