Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD s01e04: "Eye Spy" Discussion

How can you love someone and you don't even know their name?

Even typos cannot stand in the way of true love. (Ming-Na is fabulous. :word:)

At the New York Comic-Con Panel, this episode was shown in front of the crowd. Here are some notes from Perri (via Jeph Loeb at the AOS Panel Live Blog on CS.NET):

- The character introduced in this episode will be recurring
- The character will have a different look by the end of the episode and that it could be an interesting connection to another Marvel Character

And about the show:

We will learn more about Agent May and Skye

let the speculation start with a list of all female marvel characters of african descent
:D

Oh, so then she's not a robot? With Skye's dig at Ward and that awkward bit of dialog in the scene posted I just assumed she was some kind of assassin robot.

Well, okay, not entirely but still. That is some clunky dialog the writers gave her and exactly what happens when you take lines that would work comic books and attempt translating them directly onto the screen. It ends poorly, and in this case kind of comes out sounding like a robot.

So... Leia Cage?

Eliminating all of the ones that belong to Fox (Storm, Camilla Reyes, Angel Salvadore), there are:

- Monica Rambeau
- Misty Knight
- Silhouette (although that may or may not require the debut of Night Thrasher)
- Tamara Devoux (Current Captain Universe)
- Shuri (although I think she should be saved for a Black Panther movie, although she has the right look for it)

The character is supposed to be under some sort of mind control, which probably explains her odd phrasing. Skye's line about Ward is likely an allusion to the robotic behavior of the woman. We'll have to watch the show to see how it plays out, of course.

it could be a variation of one of these characters, with hopefully one of them who has a link with shield/brain washing in the comics

None have links to SHIELD and only two have links to the Avengers.

Ahh, yeah. That totally makes sense. I actually am trying not to be too harsh on the show. I have a terrible habit of over analyzing things seeing as it's what I do for a living - but this isn't and shouldn't be work.

What about Impala, Dreadlox, Alisandra Morales, Longbow, Breeze or 14?

Those would be interesting choices, Morales is who she could be since Morales is a member of Shield, but she made her comic debut in X Force, which is being made over at Fox, so Fox may have her rights instead.

i feel bad that i dont know most of these characters you both mentioned

I was joking with my list, of course.
But I'll point out that nothing in the posted rumor says anything about Marvel heroines of African descent; merely that

she might have a connection to another Marvel character. Meaning: a connection to *anybody.* Male, female, black, white, human, alien, super, normal, already in the MCU, not already in the MCU.

great! that narrows the list down to everyone not in the xmen, fantastic four, namor and spiderman + friends

Does it really? I don't ask that facetiously....I'm genuinely asking. Are Marvel's live action TV boundaries the same as the feature films, or do the rights start spilling over into franchises that are owned on the big screen by Fox, Sony and Universal?

A certain spoiler I read from NYCC's viewing of this episode has me wondering if she isn't connected to [BLACKOUT]Deathlok or Misty Knight. [/BLACKOUT]

(The article contains info about the episode, so beware if you don't want to read spoilers.)

Is Jeph Loeb a robot with just one piece of dialogue? His response to every question in that article: "Wouldn't that be great?"

Also:

Following the episode, Loeb said that the show would be filming in several different countries, including Paris and Sweden, "to give the show an international feel."

Nice to know that "Paris" is a country in Jeph Loeb's world.
Jeebuz, Jeph

I saw the episode at NYCC. She's not related to ANY character in the Marvel Universe. In fact by the end of the episode you can pretty much call her female Nick Fury. She's not related to Fury though...just look wise.

She's a fallen agent that used to work with Coulson. She's kidnapped and someone puts a robotic eye into her that makes her do things. I personally think it's a link to Winter soldier and Hydra. Shield mentions they've never seen technology this advanced. By the end of the episode she has a eye patch and looks like a female Fury.

there's also a slight easter egg about Shang Chi.

I really wish Jeph was not in charge of the TV department of Marvel. He's the biggest hack in hollywood.

Can you give us an idea as to where this easter egg takes place so we dont miss it ?

Apparently,Not even The Incredible Hulk is safe, as it is not going foward, for now.
