Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD - S02E16 - "AfterLife"

That is so very wrong. The only thing that is standard procedure in is if you plan to kill the person but know that you are being recorded (body camera, etc). That way you have plausible denial ability.

If officers/military shot like that (very quickly after first direction) then there would be a lot, A LOT, more dead suspects/persons of interest out there.

A LOT of officers DO shoot like that.

I don't really post much here at all, but this comment caught my eye, because your claim is that because they're the top spy agency in the world they're supposed to be smart.

The CIA and the former KGB were considered the best spy agencies in the world for their time. I don't really know who cast that vote, but that seems to be the consensus a lot of people have. Perhaps it's just mindless brainwashing by the United States civilization. The KGB is no longer in existence and was replaced by the FSB. I haven't really heard anything promising about the FSB, thus pretty much leaves the CIA as the premier spy agency in the world.

Perhaps there are other which are better, I've heard good things about the Mossad and SIS (aka MI6), but I'm not sure if they really are better or not. Nor will I ever actually know. For arguments sake let's say they're about on par.

That having been said, I direct you to this link.

I'm not really a fan of MSNBC, or this woman, but she did the homework and gathered a lot of examples to make a point, thus saving me the trouble of doing so. (You really don't have to watch it past 8 min if you don't want too)

Her point being, that these people who are supposed to be really smart aren't really as smart as we give them credit for. Really when you get right down to it they're glorified cops who have a lapse in judgement just like anybody else, and honestly if you're not a dee dee dee, and have a clean record, you could make it into the FBI or the CIA if you really wanted too.

While all of this is true and insightful, and I guess one could draw a parallel. The mistakes in the show are pure story craft, simple as that. There's simply no story without all the drama. Look at soap operas for an example. Everyone in the show has one personal crisis after another. A real good example of the FBI guys tripping over their own feet is "THE FOLLOWING". Its laughable at times yet I'm still glued to the TV every week. At times the story doesn't always make me happy. But as someone once said "THATS ENTERTAINMENT".

At the moment I wouldn't really say anyone is actually being stupid. Just making wrong decisions based on incomplete information. Whats driving everyone is fear. Fear of the Inhumans which is the great unknown. At this stage both Gonzales approach and the more moderate but still wary Coulson approach make sense.

I don't necessarily think that they've been that stupid, and the times they have been, I can at least personally justify it based on their character, and taking into consideration of what they know as the character vs. what we as the viewers know. Truthfully I feel other shows that I watch are bigger offenders of this problem. I also get what you (WhiteWalker) are saying about mistakes being there for the sake of the plot, but that's easy enough to over look in most cases. I mean I can't even count the number of times I've over looked the villain beating the hero only to start a stupid monologue and get beat later by the hero because they gave them time to escape one way or the other, instead of killing the hero and moving on as any real life situation would have.

My point was only that sometimes even "smart" (or at least people we think should be smart) do really dumb things, that in hindsight you look at it and go what?! Why in the..? /Facepalm. As the statement I originally quoted said that Shield people are doing dumb things despite being the premiere spy network in the world. Which I wanted to point out that sometimes no matter how good some people are, or are supposed to be, dumb things will just happen as that's life. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

I couldn't agree more. Your statement about the monologue is spot on. Reminds me of that scene in THE INCREDIBLES when the villain gets caught monologing. That was comic genius.

wouldn't be much of a show if the good guys were always perfect and never made a mistake-the most important thing to remember is-it's a TV show.

gotta have conflicts and setbacks and turnarounds or boring as hell.

what makes humans equal is there fallibility. Important point that has to get relearned through the ages. you are right.

great line in one of the early simpsons about it, homer going to bart something like 'son our lives are in the hands of people no smarter than you or me, i should know, i go bowling with these people, go drinking with these people and ocassionally have to cover up for them'. something like that, but you are right what you are saying is smart people do stupid things more frequently than is admitted.

Kind of sad they never made a sequel to that. It was probably my favorite Pixar movie. At least top 3 for sure. Heard rumors a 2nd one is finally in the works. /Fingers crossed.

I guess you've never seen The Mentalist. Granted the main character wasn't perfect but he was about as close to it as we're ever going to see. All in all, it was a very entertaining show, at least in my opinion. The plot dragged a little, but I still liked it. I often wonder if Lior Suchard is anything like that in real life, or just a fake con artist who preps the shows before hand. (If you've never heard of the name, could be interesting to look into it, or maybe not.)

I haven't seen that episode but my god, he nailed that. I've known a number of people in higher ranking positions than mine, and I always wondered to myself, just how in the hell did you get that job? It wasn't until I got a little bit older, that I finally figured out just how all of that works.

Maybe I'm just wrong or I've seen enough military and spy shows to know that the realllllllll SHIELD is probably more like SHIELD should be and not the way Coulson runs it. I bet Fury is behind Gonzales and telling him to do all this.

okay what'd I miss had to go out with students for break

Either this episode is riveting or is uninformitive because no one is posting. I'm an impatient west coaster.....

NICE deep Dish from Chicago!!!! Now THAT's delivery!!!
