Even ignoring the "highest marks since Romanov" comment, Ward is a pretty highly skilled operative in a lot of fighty-type things.

And May is the legendary cavalry who can use the knife you just planted in her shoulder to cut herself down and take out you and your goons. She is also able to pull a 180 in cargo plane, and fly it into the eye of a superstorm.

And as a team, they were able to out-perform all of Hand's other teams, in finding and rescuing Coulson. And were also successful in taking on a mission without an exfiltration plan, just like Barton and Romanov.

Check.


IIRC, FitzSimmons were the youngest academy graduates. They have been shown doing quite brilliant things, like curing an alien electro-virus, building back-scatter X-Ray glasses, and miniaturizing the night-night pistol.

Check.


Like, say, HYDRA lasers, Gravitonium bombs, Ice storm machines, teleporting dead people, alien electro viruses, and extremis armies.

Check and checkmate.

Another thing to consider is Coulson's character arc this season about how he's gone from "trusting the system" implicitly,to feeling than his team is the only ones he truly trusts.I don't think there would be the same semi-warm interaction between him and his team if it was just "The generic bad**** of SHIELD" show.

When you say "Whedon" are you referring to Joss or Jed? Because I don't think Jed (who's writing everything) really excels at writing as much as his brother does.

i mean joss... it's still his show and billed as such even if Jed does most of the writting.

IIRC, Joss was only directly involved with the first episode. Everything else has been done by his brother and sister-in-law.

Im aware. But its still his show and the cast has said he pops up often on set. Its still his show regardless who does most of the work

I agree heavily with what cph posted. Right on track with my thinking as well. This show is playing out exactly as the show runners and higher ups have planned. But those who expect something different are those who have problems with it.

If he's not making the day-to-day decisions and he's not writing, it's not his show. He's a producer. That's like saying ASM is Avi Arad's.

The show is exactly what I expected it to be in terms of plot, but it's nowhere near the quality I expected.

You have no clue how much Joss puts into this show. He could very much read every script for every episode make edits if need to and each script may been his seal of approval.

Joss didn't write or direct every buffy or angel episode either and it was still very much HIS show

Agent Carter has been announced for quite some time now.

It was announced but no movement. Im pretty sure they will just merge it with this show or it will go to netflix. I could easily see Angel like flashbacks with Carter and the Howling Commandos

Actually, they hired the creators of Reaper, Michelle Fazekas and Tara Butters as showrunners while Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley will write the pilot.

While casting hasn't been officially announced, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper and Neil McDonough have all expressed interest in reprising their First Avenger roles.

Actually, they hired the creators of Reaper, Michelle Fazekas and Tara Butters as showrunners while Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley will write the pilot.

While casting hasn't been officially announced, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper and Neil McDonough have all expressed interest in reprising their First Avenger roles.

We need more people of this calibre in one of these Marvel TV series. Agents of SHIELD is a bit lightweight, even with Coulson.

None of this says he has no involvement with what happens on the show at all. He's not there fir every decision but its still very much a joss whedon show. It still is also very much written like one. It has his stamp on it
