Damn. They'd have been fools not to utilise him, I suppose.

The show's creator Dave Filoni is the man stepping behind the camera for the premiere, as well as the fifth chapter. His past live-action credits include The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, while he's also cut his teeth directing on The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and will direct a feature film about the entangled narrative set within the Star Wars live-action television series.

Steph Green (The Book of Boba Fett, Watchmen) is directing the second and third episodes, while Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Mandalorian) is returning to a galaxy far, far away for Ahsoka's fourth chapter. Jennifer Getzinger (Daredevil, Westworld) will direct the sixth episode before Geeta Vasant Patel (House of the Dragon) takes charge of the penultimate episode. A familiar face will take charge of the finale in the form of Rick Famuyiwa, an executive producer on The Mandalorian as well as a director on a number of episodes of the Pedro Pascal-led series.

I think it's interesting people are still commenting so much about live action Ahsoka feeling different from animation. In Rebels Ahsoka had only just discovered Anakin is Vader. Live action Ahsoka has had to live with that knowledge for years, see the fall of the Empire, the death of Anakin, and the world still being broken afterwards. I'd say Rosario Dawson captures Ahsoka very well.

Some early reactions I'm seeing really seem to emphasize how this is meant mainly for Rebels fans. That's not a problem for me since I've seen the shows, but I do wonder how it'll be for those that haven't. I don't think Filoni is a great live action director so far honestly, so I'm trying to keep expectations in check.

As one who sat in the theaters back in 2008 and has been along for the Ahsoka's right from the start, I have a lot of issues with Dawson's approach with the character. She's of course not going to sound like her, and well that's fine. But it's her performance that puts me off. Ahsoka in animation has always had some Anakin to her. She tries to find her inner peace and does at times, but her emotions always bubble at the surface. I get that she'd be "more mature" though not battle worn (she's been that way since the TCW finale and it don't get worse then that) but that's not even how she's written. She's suppose to have that bit of sarcastic edge, that mirth, that chip, that I remember well from the other shows.

Also when casting for a role where someone's going to need to be a Jedi, it's really, really important to cast someone who can do it. Their stunt doubles are on point, but Dawson ain't out here being Ewan, Daisy, Hayden, or Adam. Who put it down time after time. You can already see it with live action Sabine and the new non-Jedi apprentice. Far better at the sword twirling and looking like they know what they're doing.

This isn't simply a "new casting" thing. I love Han and Lando in Solo. I also worry about MEW, who I love, as Hera. As so far it feels like a different character.

When everyone becomes Chopper-pilled next week, yet you’ve been stanning that little freak since 2014.

If the premiere doesn't have at least 2 attempted murders, I riot.

As for Dawson, really only going off of 2 appearances so far. I do think the BoBF appearance was better than her first appearance, so I am curious to see if she improves in the show.
