Obama is falling behind Hilary. I think people are starting to see the lack of a real platform. Eventually saying things like "We need hope" is going to become more and more hollow.

I'm still hoping he's getting ready to unleash a strong platform that outlines all his stances on the issues. He's done a little tiny bit of stating his views, but not to the extent that he needs to. If he can pull it together and map out how he plans to take care of business, he can still swipe this whole thing away from Hillary. But, he's not done it, yet, so I have to consider Hillary the front-runner at this time.

The last time I checked he was in the lead, that was a week ago but still...
Hilary was right behind him though, it's too early to predict though.

Actually the most recent of polls has Hillary in double digit leads. I think that this election is going to prove that money will not buy votes.

The most prominent examples are Barak Obama and Mitt Romney. Both are doing the best in the fundraising category for their respective parties, yet Obama is in second trailing behind Hillary with a double digit gap that is widening. And Romney who is now in fourth place once Thompson declares his candidacy.

I don't know if she's going to get her Howard Dean moment, though. She's got some good handlers, including her husband, keeping her from doing it. It's still possible, I guess, but if she hasn't tanked herself so far, even with all the dumb things she's said, I don't think it's going to happen. Meanwhile, we have a President who makes Dean look like the reigning king of the Toastmasters.

The media really made Howard Dean's moment. It was funny. His "yeaaahhh" and it was so funny that the media made fun of him, the way kids make fun of other kids, and it destroyed his career. Howard Dean's Yaahhhrgh, wasn't really news worthy, any more than Anna Nicole Smith stories were, but the news made it into something and destroyed his campaign. I think that a lot of the liberal media did it intentionally because they were afraid he'd win the nomination and lose to Bush.

It really bothers me how much power the media has. They completely destroyed a campaign, using something so trivial and irrelevant, and they have the power to do it right now to whomever they like. All they gotta do is pick something a little bit off or odd and run with it.

they could have done it to bush during the second debate when he refused to shut up for the mod to ask the next question. You remember that? He refused to shut up and walked away from the podium. Why didn't the media run with that?

Yeah but the candidates aren't spending all of their money right now. They are saving it for later on down the campaign. And the difference between Hillary and Obama is small. He only beat her by like a million or two for the last quarter, and the quarter before that Hillary was ahead from her millions left over from her senate race.

Quick side note. Am I the only one who thinks MItt Romney would do better in a debate against a democrat than any of the other Republicans? He seems to have a very professional demeanor. I think Rudy isn't doing well in the debates, but it's kind of because he's trapped.

Remember his "It would be alright" moment when asked about the supreme court possibly overturning Roe Vers Wade. I don't know how that didn't destroy him among republicans when everybody else was adamant saying it would be a great day. Rudy just shrugged his shoulders and said "It would be alright."

I don't think he is going to. Obama already has being black against him when it comes to winning southern states. The man is an extreme liberal. If he states these views...he can say goodbye to winning the south. He is trying to play both sides and it is slowly but surely becoming more and more obvious.

No he's not trying to hide it and play both sides. Look at his talk about evil the other day. Obviously the guy is going to take left positions. He believes in them. He's obviously not a republican, and not only that, but the country wants people with those positions right now. Taxes, health care, Iraq, alternative energy, you name it, he believes it. And not only that but he hasn't been in politics long enough to get corrupted, and the country likes that too.

The country doesn't want cautious moderate change right now. They want radical change, which is why Obama is better off in the general than HIllary.

Right now for Obama it's a matter of status and star power and ability to cross over. Rudy has a headstart on all of that, and a big lead in cross over appeal. Rudy is the only person that can beat Obama or any Democrat. so long as Obama remains honest, and doesn't go wishy washy and continues to state his views and let his liberal positions be known he will be hott stuff in America.

The country doesn't want radical or left change. They want successful change. Considering that the Bush Administration has failed in pretty much every thing concerning fiscal policy, energy policy, Iraq, health care, the enviroment, etc. it's no wonder that someone like Obama would look good concerning those areas even if they are idiotic (such as his support for universal health care and ethanol subsidies and the fact that he wasn't in national politics when Iraq started).

Also, Obama is not revealing enough of his platform. How is he going to impliment universal health care in the 3rd most populous nation in the world especially since we have a massive deficit going on right now? How is he going to return us to an era of fiscal responsibility shown in the Clintonian era? How will he handle Iraq? What is his energy policy asides from his idiotic support of domestic ethanol subsidies and foreign ethanol tariffs?

Isn't it kind of late in the game for Al to suddenly decide he wants the nomination? I mean, the election is in 4 months, that doesn't give him a lot of time to rally support.

I get the feeling that his time has past. It seems to me that both parties are going through transitions at the top. The Republicans need to distance themselves from Bush and his dismal ratings. The Democrats will be looking to reimagine their leadership after two close but crushing losses in '00 and '04. For now, Gore might strike swing voters as a retread. Maybe 4 or 8 years from now, he can do something to change that.

he likely won't, but he would have my support if he did since john edwards has a snowball's chance in hell.

Rudy is full-blown unelectable. There's just way too much dirt on the guy already out in the public.

The hell kind of calendar do you have up there in Canada?

Good thread topic Matt--as usual.

He should...but I seriously doubt he will. The dynamics for 2008 are already set in motion--entering into the fray now would do little to quell the current fervor surrounding Clinton and Obama.

What do you think? Live Earth was a pretty big success. Gore seems to be building all kinds of publicity around himself while not actually campaigning. It could be the perfect strategy. The man has a huge war chest and wouldn't need to raise much money. He has name recognition so he could literally jump in last minute and be a contender. Will Al Gore run for president?

I personally think he is watching Hilary and Obama's campaigns with great interest. Waiting for one of the much hyped candidates to make some silly mistake and Howard Dean themselves...and then he will jump in and suddenly be the front runner.

What do you think?

[IMO] Let's hope not. I'm starting to think he's full of s#$% with his "I'm the anti-Christ, listen to me" scare tactics.

I don't think he'd be a bad president, necessarily. But the GW pony he's riding is on my last nerve. He should ride that horse over to China before he continues his crusade stateside. [/IMO]

I believe, contrary to Spider-Bite's rant, we are a moderate country. Over all, the public does not want to move too far to the right or too far to the left.

Also, Obama is not revealing enough of his platform. Didn't you know Hippie_Hunter? The country needs hope to solve all those problems!

...See how stupid it looks in writing? I'm glad more and more people are starting to see how much bull**** is involved in his campaign. He's an outsider my ass. He plays the political game like a pro. But in the end...he is pretty much just a gimmick candidate who is running on his skin color.

So it would seem on the surface...but like the article I posted stated, if Gore entered now...he would take the lead in most polls. I really don't think the public is happy with any of the candidates we have, Democrat or Republican.

But the same could be said about Hilary. She has so much dirt on her its not even funny...and yet no one seems to care. I think people know Hilary and Giulliani have issues...but the worst has already come and gone (Giulliani and his messy divorce while he was mayor, Hilary and the Bill sex-scandal). Once you hit bottom, you can only go up and I think that is why the scandals aren't hurting their numbers.

As for Obama...he is a bit too perfect to be real. Thats why when the skeletons come out of the closet (and lets face it, everyone has skeletons) he will fall the hardest. And thats when Gore will jump in, I imagine.

The stuff that's coming out the last few months about Rudy and some of his dirty business dealings will bury him, not his divorces or affairs.

Maybe...but it is out there...and no one seems to care all that much. I think it all comes down to expectations. People know Rudy is a semi-corrupt Washington insider. Same with Hilary. People know she is a power hungry ice queen. And yet poll numbers seem to indicate, they just don't care. Granted...once things get in full swing and we see commercials everywhere, that could change...but I still say it is the politicans who set themselves up as a goody two shoes, perfect citizen who will fall the hardest when their skeletons come out.

Do you remember the made for TV sequel to The Brady Bunch Movie "The Brady Bunch In The White House" where Mike Brady becomes President? If only... :cwink:

Oh, people care, it's just the republicans are praying she takes the primary to bury her with it. The Clinton's are Nixonesque in their financial dealings (the burkle stuff alone is mind boggling), and I really think the dems are walking into a trap with a stupid grin on their faces.

Personally I like Obama. He does have skeletons but he's up front about them and fairly honest like with the drug use. At least he was a man about it said, yeah I did it, I was a kid but I'm not that same person. I think he gets slammed far too hard by other dems. Yeah he doesn't have the greatest defined platform but name me a president in recent times that has? I'm not saying it's right or wrong but if you really want to talk political double talk clinton still hasn't said her vote for the war was a mistake. That's a very bush thing to say and scares me.

In this country especially with public perception what we need is someone different and fresh in this country. Hell having a president with muslim ties can't be a bad thing for the piece process. He's young and inexperienced, but I consider it a plus considering the current old guard (oil money) we currently have on both sides of the aisle. He's also moderate and can garner votes and support from almost anyone that's not a racist @ss.

Just what we need - another Republican president - because if Gore runs and wins the Dem's nomination, that's what the final result will be.

the republicans have no viable candidates at this point. mccain's done, rudy's got too many negatives against him, romney never even had a chance, fred thompson is a gimmick and the rest are too far out on the fringe.

I find it hillarious that you defend Obama but call Fred Thompson a gimmick candidate (though in all fairness, both are in actuallity, gimmick candidates)
