Alan Wake.

I'd love if Remedy could have put out more DLC but I'm worried about the franchise as a whole now, sales didn't do well but hopefully Microsoft sees the potential the series has, I would hate it if "The Writer" is the last we'll ever get from Alan Wake.

I finally got around to beating the Signal yesterday. It was entertaining but definitely didn't reveal anything and somehow made the story even more convoluted than before. This game needs an ending badly.

"The Writer" trailer, and the release date for the DLC is October 12th.

so if they do a sequel, which I am quasi hopeful for, Id like more handheld weapons

I liked this episode better than The Signal, since it felt like there was a lot more meat to the story and progression, but I was disappointed to the lack of conclusion. I probably won't think a whole lot of it if not for the fact a sequel may not be a certainty, but still, I don't know...I expected a little more. Still, pretty good. If this is the end we ever see of Alan Wake, it wouldn't be totally awful.

I agree Tron, just finished 'The Writer' last night and Im starting another playthrough on 'Hard'

IGN recently visited Remedy's headquarters in Finland to discuss the successes and failures of Alan Wake. According to Remedy's Matias Myllyrine, the team is very happy with the "mood and the story and the setting" of the game. While the project underwent significant changes during development -- it was originally an open world game, for example -- Myllyrine believes it remains "very close" to the original vision "in terms of feel, mood and atmosphere."

As for failure, Myllyrine wished that Alan Wake's marketing would have had "an even crisper communication of what the game does," adding that it could have used "stronger advertising about what's unique about this game." We'd certainly agree that a sequel -- should it see the light of day -- needs stronger marketing, but we have another piece of advice as well: Don't release your game on the same day as Red Dead Redemption.

nice...I enjoyed the game and the environment...Im actually on my third playthrough right now

Finally played "The Writer" and I am really enjoying Wake's massive internal conflict that he has to resolve. Hopefully there will be a sequel where we can see what he can do with "Return".

Also as a avid wearer of sportcoats with elbow patches. I finally replaced my old tweed blazer with one just like Wake's. :woot: Along with my hoodie and army surplus jacket underneath. I wear it to the campus and noones spots the reference.

Time Magazine listed Alan Wake as their 2010 Game of the Year.

Lots of video-game covers have a bold M on their lower left corner, but none have felt as mature as Alan Wake does. Its unsettled titular character carries adult concerns — a stalled career, a troubled marriage — into a psychological thriller set in a town taken over by a shadowy occult force. Alan Wake's biggest triumph lies in turning metaphor into game play. Yes, you fight the possessed townspeople of Bright Falls with the typical pistols and shotguns, but only after shining light on them to burn the darkness off. Its mix of meta-awareness and Hitchcockian suspense make Alan Wake a unique and fun experiment and one of the best games of the year.

Nice, while it may not be my GOTY it's still a good game, considering that I was looking forward to this game and me building much of the expectations I was disappointed in a few aspects. Too bad it didn't do well sales wise (since it was released the same week as RDR) so it's not sure we might get a sequel, which is a shame. :(

I finally got myself a used copy of Alan Wake (I originally played a copy I borrowed from a friend). Picked up "The Writer" a couple nights ago and I'm looking forward to playing it. Can anyone give me an estimate of about how long "The Writer" is? I want to play it all the way through in one sitting, ideally, so I may end up waiting for my day off next week rather than trying to rush through it after work.

Its not long at all. Its been a while since I played it so my memory's on the fuzzy side but I'd go with 1 hr 1/2 to MAYBE 3 if you play slowly.

So is this game worth it ? I have enough points to buy this on Games On Demand & I am considering it

The gameplay gets a little repetitive, but the story is worth it, especially if you're a fan of Twin Peaks.

Its a shame that it only really started to get interesting from a gameplay point of view in The Writer. I really liked the flashing the words for things you need idea.

I have both DLC and already beaten them.
Alan Wake is a great game.
The last big fight, at the end of the The Writer, with the lighthouse....it´s one of the best fights i´ve seem in a very long time

If anyone hasn't picked up the DLC yet, go get it. 200pts each.

Just got this game for Christmas and I'm really enjoying it.

So, I just traded in my old 360 and upgraded to the 250 S system...and got Alan Wake as a Downloadable game.

I've just finished the first episode...and ****ing enjoyed what I've played so far. Very cool approach to storytelling in videogames that makes it stand out, for me. Alan narrating as I'm going along is interesting for me. I mean, at it's base me pressing B to look at something and hearing a tutorial voice or text box is basically the same as hearing the game character say it...but the entire thing feels different just because it seems like a perfect fit to tell this story.

The ending of Episode One, and the start of episode Two with the great "Last time on Alan Wake..." with a recap of the previous episode was nice. Again, interesting approach to storytelling in a videogame by setting it up like a TV series.

So far, it's made a good first impression on me.

For some reason, I kept thinking Rick Castle too as I played the game. Just because, really.
