Her most famous claim to fame was when she directed American Psycho.

Bale is so overwhelming as Patrick that I barely remembered she had directed it. That was quite a while back now. For myself I am not too sure about how she would handle WW.

Sarah Polley seems like another choice that I think the studio would have some reluctance to handing over the budget a WW film would require to make.

We should maybe have male directors direct male heros and black directors if the characters...

Don't the studios love getting these smaller directors for these type of projects though?

Depends. For WB and the industry at large, this film is too important. They're gonna want some one with a clear cut vision that they know can deliver.

In my view, they won't take chances with an unconventional director just for brownie points. If they're set on a female director it's going to be the woman most capable of transferring the WW mythos onto screen for the GA to receive well, they won't take a chance on it flopping just so they can try something alternative. Somebody like Harron has a very niche portfolio, I think they'll go for somebody with a more universal directing style and past projects.

It should be a female director that has an eye for production design and also handling VFX and action. Again... That's a short list.

Bigelow is the obvious choice but would she do it?

Haha, you beat me to it

I also think if they're going for a female director just for the novelty/marketing effect that's a dangerous road, and it almost trivializes the whole point of WW being an iconic woman. Electing director's based on gender just because it's WW would be highly inadvisable from my standpoint, just the same way it would be inadvisable for a typically male screenplay to look for men that seem to represent that concept instead of whoever gets that screenplay best.

Give the job to whichever director is going to put WW on screen and get 95% of viewers to go "...**** yeah, that was incredible".

I personally don't care if they get a male or female director for WW, I don't think that should play a factor in the decision.

My own choice for WW is Doug Liman.
Agreed. This is a very play on their part. I think at some part of the production a female should most definitely have creative input, but the directors circle has to be incredibly miniscule.

Most would be unfit for big-budget affair. Or unproven.

I get what you're saying and you're kind of right. But, just imagine the ****storm if they didn't hire a female considering who the character is....

Yeah, I mean the fallout could be noticeable, or it could be minimal. If they approach the perfect director and she accepts then that's fantastic. But if they start going down the list and hit #4 or #5 and insist on hiring a female director only for the film to bomb then I'd say rather hire a male director and take the criticism instead of sinking a movie this important.

My view, get the right director if you can, like Kathryn Bigelow. If it's somebody that doesn't have experience with CBMs or movies that rely a lot on heavy effects then get a consultant in that can assist with that kind of aspect. But if they're just trying to get a female director for the political points (which I doubt) then that's a risky path.

Angelina Jolie should direct it.

Joke or not, until I saw the trailer for UNBROKEN I probably would have balked... I'd have to see the film to judge, but even the trailer makes me go... Maybe.

And that's Hollywood's fault for never giving them a chance. A man who has never directed anything gets to direct the 3rd movie in Star Trek reboot series, I find something like that to be a travesty. He hasn't directed so much as a commercial and he gets a 200 million dollar gig.

If Mark Webb and that Jurassic World guy can go from no budget indies to be visual effects films then so can a female director.

The visual effects in Marc Webb's Spidey films are laughable.

Are there any lesser known or left field choices in female directors that people can think of? I mean, big elbow, Jenkins... heard these and a couple of other names before. Anyone else that might be shocking or off the beaten path??i put Julie Taymor's name out there before. Anyone else come to mind?

What about Jennifer Yuh, the woman that directed Kung Fu Panda 2.

Hey you said off the beaten path.

The visual effects are good in the Webb films I just don't like the actual movies. So yes I would like for the lady to be far better than Marc Webb at handling these types of films.

It's more than possible that the female directors we have don't even want to do superhero films. The amount of women in my life that even like superheroes are minimal. This site is a testament to that. I can probably count all the active female posters in one hand.

That's just the truth. I can't think of a single female director that has been vocal about wanting to direct a superhero film. I think they need to look in different areas and that's the animated field where we have women like Rebecca Sugar.

She's a rarity too because there aren't a lot of women in that field either.

Now I really hope they give us a B:TAS level, with Kevin Conroy.
