But that's a risk with any big franchise. Once you go above 100 million or so, those are considered high. What's your definition of modest?
I didn't say anything about modest. The budgets are going to have to be over 150 million as that's as low as blockbuster budgets are going to go but Green Lantern was rumored to have cost well over 200million dollars. How about all these films not costing well over 200 million dollars for starters.

I suppose 150 minimum is a good starter for most, give or take. It's also up to the director and producers to know how to manage that money and put it in the right areas.

To take your example, GL cost more than half of the Transformers movies, but the latter easily looked double that.

Did I miss something? Where did it day they'd be over 200 mil? I've been going back and can't find anything?

I'm only talking about this because I want more DC films and the more WB spends on these films, as they have a bad habit of doing, the more the films have to make so even a good gross will be seen as disappointing to them because the film couldn't possibly live up to these well over 200 million dollar budgets they are so fond of lately. Lets say WW makes 550-600mil worldwide and it's uh oh WB is disappointed because they spend 250 million on it.

after having watched 'Interstellar' i want Nolan to do another cbm. :funny: that might be the only way matt mccounaughey does one. Christopher Nolan's 'Green Lantern' starring Mathew mccounaughey as Hal Jordan. what a sight that'd be.

Damn....I'm dying to see that movie :csad:

Nolan doesn't seem interested in a certain type of fantasy and I'd perfer someone do original films.

Interstellar doesn't look interesting to me. There. I said it.

Well the trailers aren't that interesting so not a big surprise that you aren't interested. Farm, space shots and MM mumbling pseudo intellectual trailer lines does not a dream trailer make.

I thought it was a pretty good and interesting film, it's too long and schmaltzy though.

After Tarantino made a Andrei Tarkovsky comparison, it began to interest me very much!

Is it now? Then I get the comparison. And I, for one, like this!

This makes me wonder what the budget for Suicide Squad will be? Out of the slate of films, it's probably the only one in which the budget will be less than $150 million. Wonder if they can make it for less than $100 million.

if they cast everyone they're rumored to want for the film, probably not.

Yeah I've pondered that as well, I'm definitely thinking less than the Superhero flicks but with big characters like The Joker, Lex Luthor and Harley Quinn, who knows?

If that cast turns out to be true and they have characters like King Shark and Killer Frost on the team, I don't see it going less than $100 million.

Will Smith is the only real big star of that rumored line-up, and even then his stock has gone way down. It's easily done.

Ocean's Eleven was done for 85 million and that had the powerhouse trio of Clooney, Pitt, and Damon. Quartet if you count Julia Roberts, who was fairly popular around that time.

Place Beyond the Pines had a budget under 20 million look that cast up.

I'm guessing most actors in SS will be getting 3-5 million

David Ayer's own movie Street Kings had people like Chris Evans, Keanu Reeves, Hugh Laurie, and Forest Whitaker among many others and that film had a budget of about $20 million.

neither clooney pitt or damon (damon with bourne has in recent years) where ever the box office draw that will has been. i don't think his stock going down matters much either when it's warner bros that's after him. it's not like he's going after the gig. i'd bet he'd still get close to 20 million alone. that's not even considering the kind of characters, the actors and the kind of film it may end up being.

smith, leto, eisenberg, hardy are going to cost money.

Will Smith will most likely get gross points if he signs up. A "low" (4-5M) salary up front and a percentage of gross would be the best deal for all parties involved.

20 million in a film where he has at least 2 other co-leads, years after his last box office hit has been out?!

Are you Will's agent? :funny:

not really the same. the only one out of all of those who'd probably require a big check was keanu, and he's never been that guy. he's made a ton of money from the matrix movies precisely because he got a cut of the box office as opposed to that big check up front. now, they could probably do the same for smith, perhaps he's even done that before, that, i wouldn't know.

edit: he got 20 mill and a cut from the box office for bad boys 2. he's currently filming bad boys 3. i bet he's getting that kind of money for bad boys three.

Smith would likely get a back end deal, ala RDJ and IM. That's where the real money is anyway.

he's gotten paid 20 million a film a handful of times, and wb wants him for a role. it's not that crazy.
