Less agency? Gotta disgree big time ISS.
Catwoman is an inversion of the insane woman trope. She's a woman driven mad but rather than be victimized, she turns herself into the male nightmare. She's the only villain who gives Bats a run for his money and she refuses to let him (bruce)turn her into the cliche crazy chick saved by a man, when instead of walking off with him she kills Max.
And as someone said before, her craziness actually rescues Bruce; seeing her madness makes him take a look at himself and his actions. So instead of the trope of the crazy woman healed by a man, the man is healed by the crazy woman. It's a fascinating inversion.
Personally, I don't usually like catwoman because I think the cliche of a woman stealing pretty things in a sexy outfit is ridiculously sexist. So for me, Burton's take is refreshingly different.
