I've never 'not' watched a film because of poor reviews, but I have watched films I otherwise wouldn't have, because of good ones.

Yes I used a double negative pfft.

What makes Chris Stickman less bias than Jahns?

Stuckman, in my view, is no less JAFA than any of us. Which, okay, that's the fan perspective, but as with so many of US online, he often goes so over the top with criticism or over the top with gushing that I just can't find any value in his assessment of anything.

Jahns has a great sense of humor. Which is why as a film critic he's a great Comedy Central Game Show host.

I'm sure as hell ain't going to waste my time arguing with the haters on here, if I like the movie. I learned my lesson after MOS.

Ya'll can obsess ovah BO and RT tho.

Nothing imo.

But I like Jahns more just because he feels more real. Some opinions might suck, but he is a lot more authentic than Mr. "Oh look at all the merchandise behind me, oh and I teach cinema, hahaa, don't you think I'm the biggest fanboy of all time? I love M Night Shylamalading dong." Stuckmann. There's no real substance with Stuckmann- just populist opinions which he believes are novel.

Jahns, like I said, feels more real, a lot more funny/entertaining, and has actual, distinct perspectives on things even when he's wrong. In line with someone said here, he is to movies how Jon Stewart is to news- broadly speaking of course.

lol

I can't stand Jahns.

Stuckmann at least has his in depth vids. His Enemy and Only God Forgives breakdown are top notch.

I thought that about Jahns at first. He's loud and moves too much, but I prefer him over some guy milking a poor man's David Lynch artfilm. Only God Forgives was unbearable and Stuckmann oozes pretentiousness in that vid. Whatever. Opinions, opinions...

I totally agree. Jahns irritates the hell out of me. I can't take anything he says seriously. I really get the impression that he peruses the internet when something is released so that he can just repeat what seems to be the general consensus. It really doesn't seem like he has an opinion of his own on anything.

Even with the third BvS trailer, he droned on about how Batman was trying to run Supes over when the trailer went OUT OF ITS WAY to show viewers that Batman was trying to brake.

Stuckman seems a lot more genuine, and he doesn't have to cut every two seconds because he's actually able to articulate what seems to be a genuine opinion.

Lol I think Jahns cuts so often so that he can make sure the internet hasn't changed its opinion between takes.

Lol What? How'd you come up with that one? John Stewart can actually be clever. Give me one example of something "funny" Jahns has said which is remotely clever.

Every once in a while he'll say something that's mildly amusing, but only because it's something that's been repeated on forums and Youtube comment sections ad nauseam because someone actually clever said it first.

I was in no way comparing Jahns to Stewart, just to be clear. I meant that Jahns comes off as his schtick is more important than actually being critically insightful. As a film reviewer, he makes a good game show host.

That goes with Stuckmann as well. I can't think of anything from the top of my head of the most hilarious, knee-slapping moment that Jahns has ever said, but whenever Jahns's videos show up on my youtube subscription I always watch it. With Stuckmann, I can pretty much telegraph everything he's gonna say. There's nothing remotely interesting about him. He does long videos that's true, but nothing about them are insightful. Even his video on copyright/violations was one of the most vomit-inducing videos ever. "I... I get them too. Just because I have so many, so many, I mean SOOOO MANY, subscribers, doesn't mean I don't feeeeel anything." lol okay, Chris. Though, I do appreciate him attempting to stand up for smaller channels.

Just because Jahns does the quick-cut thing (which I find mostly annoying since every youtuber has been doing it), it doesn't mean it's bad. It works for Jahns imo.

Oh my bad. Yeah, I think his schtick is overexagerrated true. But my analogy is more of how I personally feel whenever I watch him. IMO, he's funnier than Stuckmann.

Kermode is probably a great balance of nuance and entertainment when it comes to review videos. His banter with Mayo is everything lol

Superhero News AKA Adam Hlavac, Hector Navarro and Agustin Rios are one of the most rational folks on Youtube.

I had a dream last night that Ben Affleck cane to stay with me and my wife. But instead of me asking him about Batman v Superman I told him my love of Surviving Christmas but he didn't believe me. I spent the dream trying to convince him how much I loved that movie (I seriously do love it, it's one of my favourite Christmas movies). So there I was with Batman in my house and all I could talk to him about was a little Christmas film he made years ago :funny:

I watch Jahns for entertainment but Stuckmann for his opinion. In all honesty as much as I love Jeremy, in terms of actual filmmaking and film history, his knowledge is not up there and even close to Stuckmann's who can actually discuss technical and visual aspects of filmmaking. Jeremy Jahns is like a rock star and he's awesome. Chris Stuckmann is more of an actual person telling you a genuine opinion and seems like a really nice dude.

Jeremy could never do an in depth review on 'Signs' or 'Enemy' like Stuckmann.

They are my favorite, even thought they don't have 100% of the facts all the time.

Same. I like them but I find they are a bit too fast and loose with fanboy "facts". I also tend to find them too often buying into the online "group think" thing. All that said, they are great every man type fans with a lot of enthusiasm between the three. They need to be a bit bigger in terms of personalities, which I find is something too many YouTube types either over do or under develop.

Mark Kermode is one of the few reviewers I'll always watch/listen to. Very succinct with his thoughts and I never get the impression he plays favorites.

Kermode is not someone you'll go for review on film like MOS. I fully expected him to be critical of MOS and certainly BvS. But I was surprised that he talked about positive expectations for Zack Snyder's MOS, I think that it was after the 3rd (2nd?) trailer --the one with Krypton civil war opening sequence. It's only after seeing the film that he reverted back to the norm. lol

Well Kermode needed to be professional since it's BBC paying him for his opinions.

I don't think that I ever read any of the RT reviews (I almost always never). I usually go to Roger Ebert when he was alive, and a few pieces in the Guardian (just to get the straight jacked opinions lolol). I only read reviews after viewing a film that I want to see, the exceptions are films that seem exceedingly crap.

This Ebert 3-stars review packed a punch, while critical, it wasn't unfounded and read like opinions of a non-cbm viewer.

Zod and his followers are exiled to the Phantom Zone in ships that look mortifyingly like the hero's spacecraft in the 1970s porn spoof "Flesh Gordon"
:lmao:

But my point is that I don't watch Stuckmann to laugh. I watch him because he generally delivers when it comes to genuine, thought out movie reviews.

Seriously, I don't watch these people to laugh. I watch them because I want to hear someone's perspective on whether or not a movie is good.

If I wanted to laugh at terribad movies, I'd watch Nostalgia Critic.

Understood. If I wanted perspectives on movies, I'd read from some critics rather than watch youtube reviewers. Heck, I'd watch the Schmoes over Stuckmann any day of the week, twice on Sundays.

To be clear, Stuckmann definitely isn't my go to guy. I only ever watch his stuff when I want to see what all the popular reviewers are saying about something so I can get a sense of how the internet in general is reacting to something.

I also know that these people have a certain influence over their audiences. That's pretty much the only reason I watch Collider. It makes me feel good that they defend BvS from much of the hate it gets.

When BvS comes out, I'm definitely going to see what everyone has to say about it.

But I can guarantee that if BvS gets mixed reviews, you can rely on Jahns to repeat everything negative everyone else has to say, while Stuckmann, even if he doesn't like it, will likely point out some of the positive things about the movie.

I just trust him to give a more overall objective assessment of the movie.

The first persons review I check for films is James Berardinelli. After that it's all random. I'd say 90% of the time I usually agree with his opinions.

Where this stuff about critics watching the movie this Tuesday coming from? I have not seen anything about that outside this forum. Can someone fill me in?

Collider heroes with Schnepp, Campea, and Robert Meyer Burnett I like. They all love MoS nearly on the level I do so clearly they know their stuff.

Frosty Weintraub when he makes appearances also rocks it
