This kinda all reminds me, am I the only person who'd love to see a movie or something about Jor-El and Zod leading up to the opening of MOS?

Yes please.
Wasn't it Mark Millar who wanted to do a trilogy with the first movie only on Krypton, ending with Kal-El being shipped to earth. Would have been interesting.

The movie wasn't dark, it just took itself seriously.

Yep.

Though when he takes off, it's anything but joyless. I personally felt a lot of joy when Superman realized he found a way to fit in with this world.

Come on, you know what people mean when they say the film overall is joyless. One moment of fun isn't enough.

My friend who I saw it with yesterday said that Krypton ripped off Avatar. I hate Avatar for this every person I know (about 18/19) are your typical average movie-goers over than 1 person. So pretty much Avatar is their baseline for otherworldly things in films. So when we get our first shot of Krypton with the animal and winged ships and creatures my friend just said "That's straight from Avatar". We also had the trailer for Elysium come up and my other friend who I was with said "Looks like Avatar".

I was trying to explain after the film that Avatar in itself was not original with the concepts. Nope MoS "ripped it off".

Ha ha no way did Krypton rip off Avatar. As you said Avatar itself is a rip-off.

There's no such thing as flawless film its just whether the flaws are issue enough to take away your enjoyment of a film. That's why I gave MOS a ten because for me its flaws weren't enough to really bother me.

I thought the reason you gave it a ten was because you predetermined months ago MOS would be the greatest thing you've ever seen...?:oldrazz:

Ha ha, look the first time I saw it I gave it a 9.5 it wasn't until my second viewing I was wholly happy with it. The rating may change I originally gave Avengers a 10 but have bumped it to a 9 on subsequent viewings. Of course my Superman bias has definitely bumped my rating to a 10 aswell. However, of course it's going too, if you love something so much and then they make a film of it that hits it spot on for you, it's going to be your favourite.

Yep.

Yeah, I don't think "Fun" is a word I'd use to describe this movie. Hell, I think TDK had more of a "fun" aspect to it than MOS did, and I think that's one of the reasons why critics ragged on this movie. When most versions of Superman, not just Donner, had some semblance of joy to it, this does a complete 180.

Tell you something funny I've finally started watching the Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves and he has no aversion to letting crooks die as they've been falling off cliffs etc. Also there's an episode where two people steal his suit and he leaves them on too of a mountain. What happens? Oh yeah they fall to their deaths. But of course Superman never kills :oldrazz:

The movie implies that they were friends who drifted apart .
During an earlier time in their friendship,
They might have agreed about many other things.
We will never know .
The way they spoke ad how Zod tried to get Lara to abort gave me that feeling too. Still, would love to see that kinda backstory if its there.
Oh absolutely. Having more Antje Traue is never a bad idea.

DVD bonus. Another built-in comic.

Or a motion comic with the same actors/actresses ;)

I'd watch that. Imagine a short created just for fan service, with Jor-El and Zod side by side cleaning house. With plenty of Faora thrown in, for course.
I could not ay no to that kinda thing lol

When you walk away thinking "It would kinda suck to be Superman (or at least this version)" you know the film makers missed something. Not even his childhood was depicted as being nice outside of moment where we got to see a photo album. :hehe:

Yeah, I didn't walk out of the theater thinking "Man, it'd be cool to fly and be invincible", I walked out thinking "Metropolis became a crater. Damn". The more I think about it, aspects of this this film seem like overreactions to many criticisms about the character.

But it's fun to watch. :oldrazz:

Definitely didn't leave that theater thinking that. Better way for me to put it would be "It's not easy being Superman." By the time the credits were rolling I wished I had a Superman suit to put on and run around the house in.

Well I walked out both times with a huge grin on my face, especially after that amazing ending at the Daily Planet. By far my favourite ending to a CBM ever!

It may have been the combined facts that I'm not really a Superman guy and I was expecting a Nolan-esque Superman but the lack of "fun" didn't bother me. The tone fit what was happening. I prefer to if it tried to uplift everything. The final 5 minutes was more than enough evidence to prove to me that future films would be more in the vein of what someone would expect of a Superman film.

^ This sounds dark, but I'd prefer to watch a movie where you DON'T want to be in the hero's shoes. It makes me more grateful for the hero himself.

Definitely, it was very uplifting at the end and I felt the same that the future is bright.

Well, for a character like Superman, his relatable struggles add some much needed vulnerability to the invulnerable man.

Just poking fun, dude.:woot:

Yep. I feel like the sequel will get more positive critical acclaim for its "lighter" approach, and will probably be a better constructed narrative in its own right.

Not that MOS is bad. I gave it an 8/10 on my first viewing, and plan on rewatching it soon.
