Judging how much he begged with Zod not to make him do this and his reactions afterward...I dont see him killing in MOS 2

^ It's probably the most "warm hearted" kill I've seen in a superhero movie, as strange as that sounds.

no!!! he is a killing machine!!!
thousands have died because of him!!!
he is a murderer!!! :p :D

I'd love it if Luthor says something to the effect "You cannot stop me. You have no evidence, no frame of reference. The only way you can stop my war against you.. is to kill me. You've done it before. What's stopping you now? You can break my neck, and slip out of here quietly. With your speed, no one will see you leave."

And then Lex saying something like "I knew you wouldn't. You act tough, but inside you're just another boyscout." And then Superman threatens him vaguely, but awesomely.

Lex responds, "I don't have to intimidate people to get what I want. Give them what they desire, and they'll do anything to protect me."

"What have you given them? False hope? A city in ruins?"

Etc :)

Meh. I realize this is maybe what some of you want, but that just is clunky and awkward, and would look awful on screen. I want Superman to be cool, not to be cheesy and campy.

I don't need a huge exposition on this whole idea of Clark not wanting to kill again. It's clear in MOS how horrified Clark was by what had happened. Why do we need to devote a film to that particular idea? To assuage the ******** fanboys about Superman having to kill?

No thank you.

If this were a television series, I might be all for Clark having some PTSD, and I'd want to wring every drop of hurt/comfort nonsense I could out of killing Zod. But this isn't a series, it's a movie. I don't want an entire film devoted to Clark having issues, nor do I want to see bad guys prancing around on screen, and trying to use Clark's desire not to kill against him.

It would be better if maybe Superman was talking to Lois or I don't know, Batman, maybe the police commissioner who is the lead human protagonist in the story, talks about how killing Bad Guy X may be the only option.

Clark protests, and suggests that there has to be another way, any other way. After side-eying Superman for a moment, they agree that maybe, just maybe there could be another option, and then they talk with Clark. Someone who has experience with PTSD, or who has killed in the field, to have a brief conversation with him, and help him out.

And then they find a way to do things without killing anyone, but Superman has to sacrifice himself in some way in order to save the world again. Because if they're going to kill Superman (and they totally should!), it probably has to be in the second film. I'd love it if they killed him off in a third Superman, and then brought him back for a Justice League film, but I'm super nervous they won't be able to pull that off.

Maybe just a Batman/Superman film. Yeah, that could work.

^ No, there are too many loose ends to jump into a "shared universe" adventure.
What about metropolis? What about the members of the Daily Planet? What about Clois? How will he adapt to his life on earth, while she adapts to the idea that she knows a huge secret that could hurt him emotionally?

I want those issues to be resolved at the end of the 2nd film, and then a big sequel (I want WF).

Then maybe MOS3 or a Justice League movie afterward.

And if he dies, I would want him to die at the end of JLA. That would be B@D@ZZ.

Off topic a bit but not overly what do you guys think about WB possible partnership with Dune?

Any idea how this might affect DC's future?

Why would they kill off Superman? That wouldn't make sense at all.

Just back from Pacific Rim. Tossing up between it and MOS for which I prefer. I think MOS is probably the better film, but the one thing I kept thinking during PR is I wish MOS had more fun like this.

Yeah I just saw PR too, though it sounds like you thought a lot more of it than I did. I thought it was alright, but not a film I'd see more than once. Let's see if the critics bash it for having too much destruction...:whatever:

I'm still on the fence regarding whether or not to see Rim. I'm just trying to kill time for the Wolverine.

I liked them killing him in the comics. I think it would make for a very compelling story on the screen.

Moving on from all the big details and such, one of the little details I loved was that Clark is a baseball fan. I loved the detail of him wearing a Royals shirt in the film, and I adored that he was doing the dishes, drinking a beer, and watching a game on television.

It's fun (for me, anyway) that they showed us a hobby of his without making it a huge fussy thing, or ruining it by making it a huge plot point or some nonsense. It's just there that Superman likes to kick back with a cold one and watch his favorite team play. It felt very grounded, and was a nice, simple detail in this film.

Yep, I agree, really helped to humanise him.

does pacific rim come out today?

man of steel is so good i love it

thank god clark is into chicks !

Anyone think that Man of Steel in a way is maybe a throwback to Golden Age Superman? He couldn't fly in the beginning, didn't have all of his abilities. He was a bit crude--someone can feel free to correct me on this, I'm only going off of some stuff I've seen on the net--and he did kill. Then the sequel could see him start to change into more of a Silver Age/Modern type Superman?

Yup. I thought there were some pretty obvious nods to Golden Age Superman in the film.

I would have liked them to take that aspect even further whereby for a good portion of the film you actually just see him doing super-leaps and it's only later on that that eventually tuns into flight.

Bit disappointing we didn't get to see his super-breathe though.

I might be talking heresy here, but would I be the only one completely fine if he didn't have it? I always thought he had too many abilities. Maybe they could do a reverse-Donner. Instead of giving him more abilities than he had in the comics, give him less. But honestly, I'd be fine either way. If he has it, cool. If not, whatever.

Kane and Mr. Freeze incoming in 3...2...1...

I've always wondered... does Superman ever get morning breath?

I agree with you somewhat but i'd trade in the heat-vision for super-breathe. I actually watched this program on youtube called the "science of superman" and super-breathe was actually one of his more possible powers.

All it would really take is a very powerful lung capacity which we would assume superman would have. Heat-vision now that one is pretty out there and wasn't actually a superman power until the 1960's i believe?

In this more "grounded" take on superman i actually thought we might not even see his heat vision tbh.

actually IMO heat vision is more plausible than super breathe....Superman absorbs sunlight and uses it to fuel his powers. It makes sense that his body would be able to weaponize the energy he absorbs.

I wouldn't say more plausible. What you described is one theory as to how his heat vision works but like i said super-breathe isn't actually that far fetched.

Just by contracting your mouth you yourself can cool down your breathe so imagine what someone with the immense lung capacity of superman could do? Either-way they probably felt they had to save some powers for the sequel.

Yeah, I'd be completely happy if they didn't give him super-breath in the sequel. I always found that to be one of his cheesier abilities.
