^ Like I said, now it looks like the right movie at the wrong time. I AM comforted by the WF/Public Enemies news.

The more I hear Public Enemies might be more the direction of the story, the more interested I will be.

That points to Lex and Metallo being villains.

YES. That would be awesome. And maybe even some cool cameos by other minor villains like Lady Shiva.

This talk of "Public Enemies" being a possible inspiration for the new film had me go read a synopsis (only saw the film once when it was released), and I see how it could help inform the new movie's plot. Just some thoughts banging around in my head: Lex, with his powerful influence as head of LexCorp, helps sway public opinion against Superman after the destruction of Metropolis in "Man Of Steel." Meanwhile, Clark (with the help of Lois), is trying to figure out the trick of hiding in plain sight., maybe even trying to use his new journalistic alter-ego to fight back against the wave of anti-Superman sentiment. A vigilante, Batman, shows up in Metropolis to investigate "the alien." There is a physical altercation, some one-upmanship in discovering each other's secret identities (a la the 1990s animated "World's Finest"), but ultimately a coming together of the two heroes when they discover that Lex is playing the public as well as the military, who he is partnering with and has turned on Superman and Batman (after Lex has pinned some new specific crime on either one or both of them). Superman and Batman must evade capture by the military, clear their names, and eventually have a showdown with Lex, who has developed new, powerful weapons after having recovered Kryptonian technology in the aftermath of the Black Zero/World Engine attack on the world.

Additionally, Clark may have to deal with threats not only to his superhero persona, but to his personal life as well. We know Diane Lane is returning. What if Lex and/or the military go after her? "Man Of Steel" showed that Clark's secret isn't exactly all that, and Lex wouldn't be afraid to exploit any weakness in Superman. Lois could be put in similar danger, putting a hamper on Clark's desire to be close to her. Batman, on the other hand, wouldn't have anything to lose, and this could be one of their fundamental differences that would be great to explore in the film.

WB's problem i've seen over the years is they like to talk big, and i've fell for it time after time.
show me, dont tell me.

@ Zorex. I like it.
For me, i'd add in metallo, made from the crashed tech in the kryptonian ships from MoS.
Maybe throw in some joker..( if bale can be recast so can ledger)
Lex and Joker team up. Military turns on superman with some pushing from Lex ( and after its seen another costumed hero exists, Batman, they assume he is partners with supes and go after him as well )

we see lots of clark, he is trying to dig up the dirt on Lex.
we see lots of bruce since he helps rebuild metropolis while partnering with Lex, but bruce soon discovers the truth about Lex after some digging, and discovers the Joker is on Lex's payroll.

we see Batman save supes from his first encounter with metallo ( kryptonite)
we see supes save bruce from a timebomb planted in his office by Lex.

they join forces, and together they Both evade the FBI, homeland security, etc, in trying to prove their innocence.

On another note, I assume everyone here has seen this excerpt from a recent report from Superman Homepage about WB debunking the Batman-casting rumors?

If this is true as a majority here take the debunking by WB as truth, then this is the best news I've heard all day as:

a)Snyder realizes that Batman vs. Superman/Superman vs. Batman is a lousy title and that they're actually changing it to something else! :D :)

b)They're looking at other stuff apart from TDKReturns! Like Public Enemies and World's Finest where both of them would actually team up with both on an equal standing and both having good spotlight moments satisfying fans as well as fight. We might actually see them complement each other's skills as seen in Public Enemies as well as maybe some banter? :D Plus I've said this before and I'll say it again. A Public Enemies style story would be just great, as it's not just a Superman/Batman story but also a Superman vs Lex Luthor story. So yay! We might get to see Lex Luthor!

this would the smart move .. satisfy both camps by telling a workable story without making either character the others' byatch ..

Yeah, he could fit in for sure. I think Lex exploiting Kryptonian tech (or some bastardized, re-built/purposed version of it) is key. Metallo could also provide some good action beats earlier in the film, before we get to whatever the climax is. Superman and Batman vs. an armored/weaponized Lex? Maybe.

No, no Joker. He need not apply. I think this needs to be Superman's movie that features Batman as an outside influence and supporting character. This movie will have enough to explore, between exploring Superman's place in and influence on the world following the catastrophic events in Metropolis, introducing Lex, and seeing how in the heck Clark Kent manages to hide in plain sight as a regular human being. That plus Batman... There's no NEED for Joker in this film.

In hindsight, I wonder if they wish they woulda shown Lex. maybe just a shot of him from the back. And maybe some newspaper headlines with Lex proclaiming that he, along with wayne enterprises, will rebuild metropolis...oh well.

I still say Lex and Metallo movie needs Brainiac as well. Theme of manipulation would be interesting. Lex attempting to manipulate Bruce, and manipulating Corben. Brainiac manipulating Lex. etc... I think with Brainiac being more of an AI/ mysterious persona for the majority of film would stop it from being too many villains.

Yeah, Brainiac could have a presence similar to Thanos in The Avengers... the villain behind the curtain. That way you could set up JL with Brainy as the lead bad guy.

What about the villains of the film being, primarily, Lex and United States government that he has incredible influence over? Instead directly adapting the President Lex aspect of Public Enemies, you have a reflection of our own reality in the film by having corporate/Wall Street entity Lex Luthor holding no political office, but still having having power over politics and, by extension, the military? I think that's more interesting than shoehorning in as many comic book villains as possible.

Yes, though, I'm sure there's still room for Metallo to provide some necessary punching scenes.

Lex and Bruce considering joint venture for technology/ military defense as they have seen the powers of Superman and what took place in Metropolis. Of course Bruce would also be suspicious of Lex as well. It could be interesting if Bruce was more suspicious of Lex at first than Superman.

why just the united states..I can see SEVERAL countries in the world feeling threatened and performing clandistine missions here to investigate superman ( regardless of borders )
Borders use to matter, not anymore with todays tech and militaries tho.

Including Mercy would be a nice way to tie Wonder Woman's mythology into all of this, and make for an interesting twist. Since she's an Amazon, if I remember correctly.

The only Bat villain I want is Riddler or Penguin. Mostly Penguin

An after credits sequence!!!

Given how that world engine supposedly weakened superman during their fight, and also given all that tech is just laying out in south asia. Safe bet that will be the key to people like metallo.
