Almost Human

I think it was absolutely the right call. Not only does it avoid breaks, but it also avoids the initial slaughterhouse that is premiering a handful of new shows on the same night, AND gives the network the chance to drop a fair amount of promotion/advertisement during the MLB World Series.

It also won't lose momentum via the break, which is what I am afraid will be what happens to Sleepy Hollow.

Fox Banking on 'Bones' to Boost 'Almost Human' Launch (Exclusive)
10:52 AM PDT 10/18/2013 by Philiana Ng

As the long-running procedural prepares to leave its Monday home, the network is pulling out all the stops in hopes viewers tune in for the upcoming robot cop drama.

Fox is hoping Bones viewers will tune in to Almost Human.

The network is debuting an extended first look of the new J.J. Abrams-J.H. Wyman sci-fi drama starring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy during the Oct. 21 episode of Bones, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The first look, which airs at approximately 8:25 p.m. during new Bones episode "The Woman in White," will feature never-before-seen footage from Almost Human, set 35 years in the future when Los Angeles Police Department officers are partnered with human-like androids. The move comes as the long-running procedural prepares to set up shop at 8 p.m. Fridays beginning Nov. 8, with Almost Human taking over Bones' 8 p.m. Monday perch.

Fox is also hoping for a major social media and digital push with the extended look running simultaneously across the network's platforms, including Hulu, the Fox Now App, the official Facebook page, Twitter, the Almost Human website and Fox affiliate websites.

Additionally, a slew of Almost Human screenings will kick off Oct. 21 at the New York Television Festival and at the University of Southern California.

Fox has heavily promoted the series during the MLB's American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers in hopes of attracting male viewers, much like how it marketed serial killer drama The Following last year, and has plans to continue the push throughout the World Series and NFL games as the premiere date nears.

Prolific producer/director Abrams has also done his part in touting the series, meeting with a handful of reporters at the Santa Monica headquarters of Bad Robot in late September. "What they're dealing with in [Almost Human] is much more a cop show that you might feel is familiar, with a wrench thrown into that, with the huge adjustment being that the cases themselves aren't what you've seen before," he said.

Fox is hoping to go two-for-two with its freshmen dramas, coming off a successful launch for Sleepy Hollow, already renewed for a sophomore season.

Almost Human premieres Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. on Fox.

They weren't kidding about promoting the **** out of this show during baseball. I approve.

Holmes and Yo-Yo, Mann and Machine, Total Recall tv show... Just saying.

But did any of those shows have Karl Urban? DID THEY?!? :argh:

Aye laddie... 'Tis true. :word: Still, in all seriousness this gives off the whiff of TERRA NOVA to me Sawyer. It looks damned impressive production values wise, but I fear the writing will not be up to really exploring the core concept. I would be happy to be wrong though. Urban needs something to call his own. He's too charismatic a screen presence.

It'll be nice to see Urban do some tv, and hopefully Ealy can finally be in a long running series. Brother always has a knack for getting cast on soon to be cancelled ****.

He's too pretty for this world Terry... Too pretty for this world... (single tear running down cheek)

Fox Delays 'Almost Human' Premiere Two Weeks, Banks on Post-NFL Sampling
5:40 PM PDT 10/21/2013 by Michael O'Connell

The network will air the pilot Sunday, Nov. 17, with a football lead-in, before moving into its Monday slot the following night.

The wait for Almost Human has been stretched by another two weeks.

In attempt to lure more eyeballs to the premiere, Fox announced Monday that the previously announced Nov. 4 opener will now air on Sunday, Nov. 17. That will give the freshman drama a massive lead-in from the evenings NFL on Fox football coverage.

The second part of the premiere will air the following night, debuting in its 8 p.m. Monday time period and leading into freshman hit Sleepy Hollow.

Bones, which moves to Fridays at 8 p.m. starting Nov. 15, will remain in Almost Human's Monday slot for an additional two weeks -- Nov. 4 and 11 -- where it has been virtually even with last fall's ratings.
You better be going somewhere with this, FOX...

A two-night premiere does sound swell, though.

I think it could get things off to a great start, the big test will be how much the numbers vary between the two nights.

This just seems like it would've been a smarter conclusion to come to a few weeks/a month ago. Not two weeks prior to the airdate they've been pimping.

Usually I completely shut out any new shows on network tv but this honestly caught my eye.

I'm going to give it a shot but I doubt it has enough dark themes or fairy tale concepts to stay on the air for long. The masses don't really care for sci-fi unless it has light sabers or blue cat aliens.

Almost Human is adding John Larroquette to its ranks.

The Emmy-winning actor (Night Court, Boston Legal) will recur on the new Fox drama (bowing via a two-night event on November 17 and 18), Fox announced Tuesday.

Larroquette joins Almost Human — a series set 35 years in the future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved, human-like androids — as Nigel, a sympathetic, highly intelligent and slightly broken roboticist.
Dat Larroquette.

I could have sworn I read that John Larroquette died earlier this year.

Fortunately, no.

Exclusive First Look: Ro-bromance

Hurry up dammit

Urban stabbing himself in the leg and scaring the kid... :lmao:

Almost Human EPs J.J. Abrams, J.H. Wyman and Stars Preview Fox's Futuristic New Cop Drama
BY KIMBERLY ROOTS

In the opening moments of Fox’s Almost Human, we learn that crime in Los Angeles has risen 400 percent, criminal organizations run the city with impunity, and the police are so outnumbered that every human officer is paired with a combat-ready android.

If you’re envisioning something along the lines of RoboCop, Blade Runner and Minority Report, you’re on the right, dystopian track.

The futuristic cop drama’s two-night premiere kicks off Sunday, Nov. 17 (9/8c) and introduces us to John Kennex (the Star Trek reboot’s Karl Urban), a detective returning to the force after a life-changing injury.

Kennex is paired with Dorian (Common Law‘s Michael Ealy), a retired-model android pulled out of storage to watch the brooding, uncooperative returnee’s back. (Let’s just say the pair aren’t exactly Starsky and Hutch from the start.)

There’s also Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under) as the precinct’s boss, Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) as a fellow detective, some kickass action sequences, lots of gadgetry and an intriguing mystery surrounding Kennex’s missing ex-girlfriend.

TVLine chatted with Almost Human‘s key players, both in front of and behind the camera, for scoop on the upcoming series. Read on as Urban and Ealy, as well as executive producers J.J. Abrams (Lost) and J.H. Wyman (Fringe), preview what you can expect from the sci-fi procedural.

HOW FAR IN THE FUTURE ARE WE TALKING? | The series is set about 30 years from now, a time that Abrams, during a conference call with reporters, insists isn’t all doom and gloom. “It’s not raining all the time. The atmosphere isn’t completely ruined,” he notes. “There’s a sense of going forward” and that humanity is “resilient, and we’re going to succeed.”

HOW HUMAN IS DORIAN? | Unlike the newer model “synthetics” who accompany all of the other officers about their work, Dorian is indistinguishable from you or I. His emotional range, Ealy says during a visit to the set, “can go to very, very emotional to pretty stoic.” Yet let’s not forget: He’s hella strong and impervious to pain. “There are times, especially in action sequences,” Ealy notes, “where he’s just unstoppable.” Abrams adds that Ealy “is playing a character who is by design, literally, as brave and as knowledgeable and strategic as you would want your partner to be… But he’s also as altruistic and as considerate and empathetic as you would want.”

ON A RELATED NOTE, HOW SYNTHETIC IS KENNEX? | As we learn early on in the pilot, the injury that sidelines Urban’s character leaves him with a robotic leg. “While he appreciates technology… he still has a problem with the line between humanity and robotics or synthetics,” Wyman tells reporters. “His well-being now depends on this technology that he holds in contempt.”

WHO’S IN CHARGE? | Taylor’s Maldonado is “not only our captain, she’s also like a big sister,” Urban says, adding that John’s relationship with – and respect for – her allows for a very honest back-and-forth between the two. “There’s definitely a personal connection there.” Fun fact: The precinct boss was originally conceived as a male role, but a casting director’s suggestion of Taylor changed everything. “We realized that the char of Maldonado would be far superior if it was a woman,” Wyman says.

WHO’S THE BIG BAD? | Though Wyman promises he’s “always interested in hiding certain things and planting certain things that will come around later,” don’t expect Almost Human to have Fringe-ian levels of mythology. “Inherently, the show is a week-to-week great action show with cases that you haven’t really seen before,” he adds.

WHERE’S KENNEX’S LADY? | In the pilot, the tortured cop recalls some very disturbing details regarding the love of his life. While her absence is certainly important to Kennex’s journey, Urban says, “We’re not letting the character be defined by that” — though it’ll be addressed in future episodes.
