Comics Amazing Spider-Man#558

Yeah, I think I'm gonna pass on Gale's next two issues. Kitson's art was great stuff as always, and Freak being taken by Oscorp was an interesting twist, but Gale is even worse at dialog than Stan Lee (who can get away with the hokey, clunky dialog because, hey, he's Stan Lee). I thought Gale's work on Daredevil was atrocious, but it's even worse on ASM.

And for the fourth time now, Freak has proven to be completely pointless as any kind of character, villain or otherwise. The only thing that can redeem this guy is if Connors turns into the Lizard and tears him in half.

That would be rather cool.

Maybe Freak will become the new Lizard?

:yay:

Well I just read ASM #252 and it was as great as ever so boo to you guys!

Did anyone else see the "New Lizard" bit in the letters page? Is that some kind of off-handed announcement or did I miss something?

With Norman running the Thunderbolts (and under government watch), I'm left wondering who's in charge of Oscorp?

Is it Harry???

I didn't hear about it in any interviews or articles. So I'm guessing it's an off-hand announcement.

What's with all the Gale hating? Im not seeing what's so bad about it. I actually like all the bantering he has Peter doing in battle.

I actually thought this was one of the better issues.

Oh well; what do I know? :yay:

Cap, you're quite the contrarian.

I didn't hate it. I just think his issues are the ones I've liked the least. There were some good moments in this issue, though. The Jonah/Marla conversation, and how Spidey defeats Freak was great.

Agreed. Im very curious on how Jonah wil get The Bugle back (if he even DOES)...

Quick off-topic question: Does Doc Conners still have the Lizard inside of him? Was he ever finally cured? When was the last time we saw the lizard?

Hey! I just got #559. I'll post a thread in a day or two. (Marcos Martin is awesome!)

Aloha,
WHO DO YOU KNOW AT MARVEL? You lucky stiff you.

Aloha,
Don't forget Jonah has lost the Bugle before. I know the Puma owned it one time, didn't Osborn also have a hand in it at one time?
Spidey rules with continuity

I'm actually more interested in JJJ getting Marla back. I think he's gonna set his mind on that first, and then take back the Bugle.

Yes... it was mentioned in ASM #558 that Connors could still turn into the Lizard.

:yay:

I liked this issue. Wasn't anything spectacular. But still better than the three previous instalments, of which the artwork actually hurt my eyes.

I don't know if it's too late, or if anyone cares...but here's my review, like most people here the story was really good, especially the JJ scene, BUT, the dialogue was TERRIBLE. It was okay in the beginning, but it went downhill fast after the first couple of pages. Gale's humor wasn't funny, and the crowd with their dumb remarks when Menace attacked was a groan-a-minute.
I'm going to write Marvel and let them know about my disappointment with the issue, I've really liked a lot of BND so far, and am looking forward to upcoming storylines, but this one didn't cut it.
The art was good though.:yay:

I just bought it. My second BND issue. I like the diolauge, I thought it was funny, fast paced, and slightly interesting (with the "people will die!" "face the consequences!" being the exceptions).

I like the subplots with the mayor, and JJJ, they both seem interesting.

I find when reading it, that I don't understand Spider-man though. Everything when reading these issues just makes me feel like he de-aged about 20 years. I actually have to stop reading, and remind myself that he's the same age as he was a few months ago.

I don't like, but I can deal with the marriage being no more, and I could even get over the deal with the devil stuff, because hey, there's a million stupid stories out there...but I cannot accept the fact that they are writing an older Spidey like an immature child, when supposedly he has not de aged.

Don't puss out Marvel, if you want him younger...MAKE HIM YOUNGER. Do a REAL ret-con.
I can't respect a character who loses all the life experience he has gained and behaves like a kid, when HE IS NOT.

The great thing about Spidey (I'm 25, for reference) is that he was always like you, the average guy....but he did things that made you want to be better. He (both Peter AND Spidey)made you aspire to do the right things, because, hey, here is a character with crappy problems, and he's doing the good, right thing.

Now Peter is just an old man who still lives at home because he can't get a good job.

The flip side of that statement, that he feels de-aged, is that a lot of us say that the marriage "aged" him. I never thought that was a good thing. I was always for them just getting divorced, but that could easily do the same thing, and "age" him even more.

I feel the same way, actually, as much as I am enjoring BND. Anyone who has ever spoken a foreign language will probably know what a transition it is to go from one language to another in the span of a couple of seconds. It's like flipping a switch. So I see this change like that. Eventually, things will equilibrate again.

I can understand that point, and though I don't agree with it, I can understand wanting to retcon, or get rid of the marriage.

But the problem lies in the fact that they did a half assed job. Supposed everything in PEter life happened, except for Marriage Specific things. Yet they are making him act as if he is"fresh out of high school" Peter, who hasn't learned anything from living with a women (Pete and MJ DID still live together, right?) fighting supervillians and going through all the things he's delt with.

In essence, it feels like he grew, then regressed for no logical reason. And I lose respect for people who do that in real life.

So I see this change like that. Eventually, things will equilibrate again.
I dunno, I mean, the stories are decent. In 50 years, I could give an issue of BND to my grandkid, and we could be like "Hey, here's a good, random issue of Spider-man", but reading it now doesn't feel like the same character that (apparently) grew as a person.

Again, if they went balls out with a full retcon, it wouldn't be a problem because if they went back in time or something, or pretended the relationship never existed, you wouldn't have the "grow/regress" thing that bugs a lot of people.

So in not wanting to piss people off by making a bunch of stories "never happen", they STILL pissed of those people by making Peter as a character un-respectable. They should have just went balls out.

And yes, I like that term. Balls. Out. :)
