An Interesting Critique of Dane Cook

Eye of the beholder. This guy dislikes Cook for the reasons that alot of people find him funny.

I like his act. It's just stupid funny s**t to listen to. And he's very interactive with his fanbase so. Awesome.

I like his stuff, but I don't like how popular he's become. It was cool when first came on the scene, but I can't turn around without someone quoting Dane.

Give me Stephen Lynch any day of the week.

Well it's less of an opinion, and more of a fact, if a great majority agree upon it. With that James Bald situation (I still think it was some guy pranking his friend, who was the guy in the pics), it's obvious he wasn't better looking than a lot of the actors. Basically no one agreed with him.

Dane Cook however has a huge fanbase, so that can't be applied here imo.
What about Iraq, that has a huge fanbase. Does that mean the opinion that it is a successful and worthwhile war is true or a matter of opinion.

Dawg, you seriously gon' compare people's tastes on a comedian with that of war on foreign land? I mean really...

I really don't understand all the hate Dane gets lately. I think he's funny, not greatest comedian ever funny, but he's certainly not the worst. I guess now that he's finally made it to the big time, he has to have a vocal group of people that hate him.

Every person who is popular is popular for reason. Now if that reason is a shallow one is another matter.

I don't think it's such a funny comparison. If you'd like another perhaps Britney Spears. Had a large fanbase, does that mean she is talented.

I was laughing at the thought of comparing the two. They're so obviously different it's not even worth matching them up.

Talent's a broad term. Talent in singing? Nope, definitely not. Especially compared to Christina who was always her superior in that category. But talented in marketability? I'd say yes. She knew how to reach that "sweet spot" with the MTV audiences. I remember almost every single one of her singles becoming an instant-hit on the charts. Not many can do that consistently.

I've never found his act to have much depth, to be honest. He's a likeable personality and is fantastic at giving uninteresting stories and observations life with absurd actions and funny voices but I don't really find anything in his act all that funny or remarkable.

I haven't really heard him, but to me it's more sad to be an actual "critic" of comedians than to be a bad comedian. Do we have to have coneseurs for every single stupid thing? The guy that wrote the article just sounds jealous.

If you don't like him, don't watch him.

Dane Cook Must die!!!! heard it here first
( the above does not constitute a command or a plea to harm mr. cook who, as far as I know, is above any and all reproach)

lisa lampinelli is a funny *****.... she's racist as ****.. goes a bit overboard with the black jokes... but still funny.

He's like the new Adam Sandler...
Adam Sandler was much edgier. His talking goat makes Dane Cook's material look like Dora the Explorer.

I think Dane Cook's pretty funny, he's not ridiculously good, but he's slightly above average. Like the article said, he's marketed himself really well and achieved a pretty good level of social penetration.

I can see him being a talk-show host, but not at this point in his career. Who knows, maybe in 2009 when Conan takes over the Tonight Show, but until then I think he's probably pretty happy touring and doing stand-up.

We bust balls. Say lot's of inside jokes or stuff like "that's what your mom said".

mmm. social penetration. got to get me some of that action.

I prefer my own personal Dane Cook critique: "Dane Cook is a caffiinated white guy who jumps around and does a lot of yelling...just like any other hyper white guy:o"

I find Dane Cook amusing, and occasionally funny. He's a guy who gets on stage and tells silly stories. The writer of the article is right, of course; Cook is an observational humorist with no depth behind his act. His jokes are crude, but overall inoffensive.

But the Burger King drive-thru joke makes me laugh, and that's really all that matters. He's a comedian who makes people laugh. His recent HBO special isn't as good as Chris Rock's or Lewis Black's, but I was entertained.

The reason the man has so many fans isn't because his fans think he's unbelievably funny, but because he simply amuses a lot of different people.

Of course, I have another theory: After Dat Phan won the first Last Comic Standing, the average person was probably begging for passably funny stand-up.
