an open thread to the oldbies

It's the same with the relationship advice threads. There are some glorious tales that simply don't get the air time they deserve.

There's nothing wrong with a lame thread, i think most people have made a thread with 0 posts in it at one time or another. SOme of the biggest cult following threads started off pretty lame but picked up steam.

a crap thread is fine but with the divide of politics and celebrities and diner and community and then lounges and official relationship advice conglommerates, you're pretty much left with birthdays/holidays and crap anyway.

even post count milestones have pretty much dried up as the majority of the top 30 posters either aren't here anymore or certainly aren't posting like they used to. It's only really corp doing the rounds, I remember when he wasn't even on 20k.

I don't want to sound like i'm moaning, i'll put the rounds in but no matter how good a thread suposedly is, if you don't get that banter inside it's as good as dead

you remember that dressing your age thing last week, four of us managed to get it to around 4/5 pages (it wasn't the greatest idea in the world but we all got stuck in).

ps, why are you up so late?

Any thread can have that happen to it. Just look at this one. It started out very nice and most posts were in depth and the last page is more one sentence quips back and forth much like a lounge.

The more serious and large posts on the first page are undermined by page 3 and so on. That happens everywhere here but being here for so long that does nto suprise me.

It's also not a bad thing as people can do what they wish. Just saying is all.
This is just a case of thread starters being less involved in their threads to keep them on track or off track or keep members engaged/entertained.

the hype lacks a good host.

Indeed which is why I have noticed the likes of you and Corp always having a hand in the more detailed responses to threads which is great. As this is what I felt the point of this thread to be. Who is left that really cares about decent conversations and not just the mind sometimes mind numbing banter of lounges etc. Of course I used to go there a lot but I was younger.

For me this is morning - I am in the UK right now.

Which begs the question why are you up so late?

the question was to collosal spoons actually.

I'm in sheffield so it's 10:30

I'm sure all those crappy threads takes up a decent amount of bandwidth. Then Malice has to shut the site down for a weekend for maintenance(forcing some of us to either go outside or flood ComingSoon) lol

I'm workin night shift this week. Bacteria don't sleep so neither do I :(

Is it true that the threads like rate the avatar were changed so they do not add to your post count?

yah, they are in the diner, nothing in the diner adds

then again, i don't know how often the diner is visited these days...

i had an idea of starting a community type thread in there and seeing who took the bait to use it as some chilled out sanctuary location

The diner huh, I can not seem to find it. I must have missed that.

Thanks Egg

Wow about time they did that

So Eggy you have been here a while. Has it changed much for you?

Yeh it's changed... just like everything does.

I'm happy with the place though. Times change and so do posters.

It's called growing up. Hopefully as you get a little older and a little wiser wasting your time online seems less fulfilling and you want to move on. I used to post crazy amounts a years ago. Now I am hardly ever on here, computer games hold almost no power over me any more.

I traveled around Earth and had a real good time in the real world. Last month I got married in Jamaica on a beach. That was better that any of this stuff.

DO not get me wrong the hype is still cool. But I am too old for this sh***

The reason I am on here now again is that work is slow as it is Christmas and I have the time to kill.

Thread should have been closed after this post. LexiCorp is correct.

Agreed. But I think it's more of an excuse. If certain posters used to come online and be "the funny guy" or the "Philosophical one", and are gone now...then either find a new forum or MAKE the posts you want to see and stop *****ing because your clique is gone.

These kinds of threads only serve to put down and insult the newer members who don't remember people like Wilheim Scream or Doc Ock or whoever..

Sometimes I amaze even myself.

Thank you for the vote of confidence now that I did not see coming. *Blush*

Why? Your posts are always clear and coherent. Most of the time logical and realistic. No need to blush. Now, if you were knowsbleed, I don't know what I would have expected you to say. Maybe something about fetuses...fetai?..babies!

I probably shouldn't post in here because I'm a "noob". But some of the stuff you guys have been saying is really interesting. I've had a butchers at some of the old threads like "hooters pimp" and what not. :hehe: (Classic by the way).

But i think growth is a natural progression and sometimes growth can be painful. You talk about some of the guys who have joined this year being idiots( i hope no one meant me! :csad: ) hehehe. But you are all right, i've only been here 6 months and even i get annoyed with some of these muppets.

But from my short stay here i have to say i have enjoyed it immensly. It's a great place to come when you are online or whatever to just chat about things that interest you. From Batman to Dragonball, from Lost to Scrubs. What other place on the internet can you mix with other people of other creeds and races and just talk about things that interest you? I don't think there is anywhere else on the interwebz like this, and that is a very, very good thing! :D

Is Wilheim Scream gone now?

Hmm yeah the old ones are nice. Still thats part of life - generations come and go. I like to think that there are some posters on here that will step into the roles of those other so famous old posters....

I do not think I would ever stoop as low as to brand a bunch of users as noobs or idiots just that they are here for different reasons that I am here for. I used to be a tad silly when I first came here. As we mentioned before its a growing phase most do go through and mature a little.

I agree the Hype is so diverse compared to other places. :word:

I don't know. A lot of the topics here in the Community Forums just wreak of Newbieness to me. I just really can't relate to them at all.

That is part of the problem we talked about here. Why certain old posters reach a time when they move on or ignore all the newbieness as you call it.

But like many things in life you can ignore or work around or even through it if you choose.

Eggyman is a good example of a noob turned resident nice poster.

Oh yea i'm not implying people call "newbs" idiots for being "newbs". I mean the guys who just pop up in a thread, say something really stupid then disappear again. There is loads of them.

Yes that is the lounges - now the those threads have been branded a no post count zone it may force people to stop jumping in with the random "hi" posts. lol

Well I joinned this forum from the Hulk movie boards following others and having lurked for a few months. I post almost exclusively at work as I usually am busy doing other things when I am elsewhere.

I will say it was easier to stay entertained before then it is now.

Thanks :cwink:

They will and sometimes they won't but it's okay to see new personalities because then it's like you like people as individuals not as stereotypical "poster" types.

When I first came to this board, I was way younger. If anyone has read any of my other posts, you'd know I only REALLY care about Spider-Man. I found this website because of that. Spider-Man Hype. Now I lurked for like 2 years because it wouldn't let me sign on for some reason and I made like 6 accounts and then just gave up for a year or so. When I eventually came back it was Superhero Hype.

When I finally began posting, there were a LOT of elitist who spoke negatively of newcomers and acted like being on this site made them special. They spoke as if their join date made them cool. That was dumb because I had known of the site before quite a few of them, their join date was just first.

Back then, just like now (though fading), there were cliques. I don't mean people that are friendly with specific forumers. I mean the kind of people that will come into a thread and argue (hostile) with you just because their friend is arguing with you. Not because they actually agree. You could tell because they'd then argue from your point of view later. Or other types of elitist clique behavior.

Comic book fans have some kind of air of arrogance online. No, not all of them. But many. And I'm not trying to imply anything about any specific posters, but back when I joined? People were *****ing about how the site changed even back then.
