an open thread to the oldbies

Yes that is the lounges - now the those threads have been branded a no post count zone it may force people to stop jumping in with the random "hi" posts. lol

lolz yea exactly.

But even I, as a "newb" have noticed some people in the comic and film forums just posting crap to wind people up recently. Now, some things i have posted have wound people up, but it wasn't my actual intention to do that. But with some of these other guys you can instantly tell they are just trying to stir some crap up, and not for comedic effect.

Like just today, some prat with like 30 posts went round the whole bat forum posting a vile picture that i was unfortunate enough to see. WHY? WHY?!?!

They will and sometimes they won't but it's okay to see new personalities because then it's like you like people as individuals not as stereotypical "poster" types.

When I first came to this board, I was way younger. If anyone has read any of my other posts, you'd know I only REALLY care about Spider-Man. I found this website because of that. Spider-Man Hype. Now I lurked for like 2 years because it wouldn't let me sign on for some reason and I made like 6 accounts and then just gave up for a year or so. When I eventually came back it was Superhero Hype.

When I finally began posting, there were a LOT of elitist who spoke negatively of newcomers and acted like being on this site made them special. They spoke as if their join date made them cool. That was dumb because I had known of the site before quite a few of them, their join date was just first.

Back then, just like now (though fading), there were cliques. I don't mean people that are friendly with specific forumers. I mean the kind of people that will come into a thread and argue (hostile) with you just because their friend is arguing with you. Not because they actually agree. You could tell because they'd then argue from your point of view later. Or other types of elitist clique behavior.

Comic book fans have some kind of air of arrogance online. No, not all of them. But many. And I'm not trying to imply anything about any specific posters, but back when I joined? People were *****ing about how the site changed even back then.

Yes that arrogance comes from pouring your persona into a virtual world and you can be who you want and noone need know who you really are. lol

I really want to stay away from the arrogant style of poster and not become one myself.

But again that happens in real life with little groups here and there.

At my work we have the tech guys as one bunch, and my other job the hairdressers are just as bad, people just like to group up.

Indeed however I feel the same level of crap has been around since I joined. I am not that much of an oldie. But I do not feel the crap level is any higher than it was. Maybe I am not looking in the right places.

I have noticed posters leaving though, while sad makes way for new comers.

I can think of about 20-25 posters, includings "Moderators" who seem like they would fit this to a T.

I used to be like that. I mean why not it can make you much more cool to others.....

But the truth is now I am happier than I have ever been and don't feel the need to do so that much. A little make believe is still fun of course do not get me wrong.

Ha again it goes back to the growing pains of becoming a more balance adult. Growing up.

Definitely agreed.

haha yep! But that is inevitable on forums.

is it just me or do you find yourself not really caring about posting in the majority of topic on here any more.

personally i used to average around 20 to 30 posts a day on the hype, now i'll read the topics but usually can't be arsed adding my own input to them.

i really don't know what it is, i can't put a finger on a reason.

Whenever I post I usually end up calling someone a moron and getting warned about it by the mods. So I guess nothing has really changed after all...you idiot...;)

Why? Your posts are always clear and coherent. Most of the time logical and realistic. No need to blush. Now, if you were knowsbleed, I don't know what I would have expected you to say. Maybe something about fetuses...fetai?..babies!

wth is this supposed to mean?

Ever since I started college I haven't had the time I used to log on. And when I do log on nothing really grabs my interest. There's a lot of users now that I don't recognize or the people who I used to talk to aren't on as much or they stopped coming.

I've been on this site for 4 years, I guess things do get old or I'm getting older. There are few threads that I check on.

But this still is a good site to get a good discussion on various non-superheroes movies without rabid fanbases.

I remember when the lounge was called the "Gamma Lounge":o And when DBella and Morg weren't mods.

A good claim to fame. I miss a few people. Not the lounges though.

Who is the oldest person on here? I would like to know the average age.

In my experience, intelligent people lend themselves to being arrogant. It is natural, and many comic nerds are smart people. I'm not the most arrogant person in the world, but I plead guilty to thinking I'm smarter/better than someone from time to time. I think most on here have. Many great posters in the past on here were arrogant jerks, but they provided awesome debate. I think the best example of this was Herr Logan. That guy was maybe the biggest jerk on this site and would write 6 paragraphs just to insult you. However, I loved the guy as a poster. He offered up some interesting debate and defended his points intelligently, despite the occassional insult. Part of the problem on here now is I don't feel we have great debates like that anymore. Occassionally I'll get one that strikes my fancy, but usually not. Even with some of the bigger pieces of news on the site don't strike up too much good conversation. Does this make the site less fun to me? Not really cause I have found other venues to enjoy on the hype. However, I can see why people think it isn't as good anymore.

herr logan was convinced wolverine couldn't be taken out by a choke or nerve attack by bats.

2-3 pages of me and him back and forth...

Those discussions were all classic though. The man wrote an essay to make just one point. I found that to be quite entertaining. His posts were about as meticulous as Wilhelm's

Well I joinned this forum from the Hulk movie boards following others and having lurked for a few months. I post almost exclusively at work as I usually am busy doing other things when I am elsewhere.

I will say it was easier to stay entertained before then it is now.

It is quite harder to be entertained as it were 2-3 years ago. I spend most of my time just lurking. I think there is still quality posters out there but everything is completely split up in different forums that it is harder to find the good posts out amongst the repetitive jargon.

I've spent most of my time in the past few years lurking.

I'm probably posting more now than I ever did. Part of it is because I'm a mod and occasionally have to kick some butt and partially because this place has gotten more interesting. Thank you, Politics forum.

The earliest someone said this place was the best, then that time is when it honestly was the best. All these people coming in at 06 and on have no idea how good it was back in the day.

With all things, time brings about more regulation and restraint.

This place is more boring than it once was...the real world doesn't have too much to do with the lack of time you find yourself spending here.

So in short, how can we recapture the glory days of the hype?

a few years ago, i thought about a mass reboot, no post count or date envy but again, people would still be who they are.

any other suggestion?

One thing i would say is that I don't 'know' the posters as much as i used to. No first name basis or idea of their careers or jobs or lives outside of this place. There is no

'Hey Ollie, how was work today, did you manage to sort out that thing with your chick and how was that party you went to on saturday?'

thing which was really around when i first came. I can't honestly say i know anyone's name on here these days.

Hey Rain.

I'm Andy :)

Did you get that rash sorted out?
